Description: If they asked her if she loved him, she'd lie.
AN: This is based on the song I'd Lie by Taylor Swift.
Gina enjoyed sitting next to Lucas. Lately it felt like the best place for her, right next to him where she wanted to belong.
He moved his arms animatedly as he told her about a nest of speckled sparrows he had found earlier.
As he spoke, Gina found herself gazing into his eyes and noticing their color- bright green. She felt entranced by them and started trying to count the shades of green in his eyes.
"Do you think you'll ever fall in love?" she asks him, hoping that he'll say that he loves her.
He shakes his head, running his fingers through his hair. Love is just something he doesn't want to think about just yet.
Gina found herself laughing because she hoped he was wrong. She didn't think it had ever crossed his mind that, perhaps, she was in love with him.
When he tells her a joke, she hides her smile and remembers that she knows all his favorite songs. Those songs will always be her favorites too.
Later on, she is sitting with her other friends- Jessica, Nick and Toby- and all she can think to do is tell them all about how his favorite color is green and that he had his father's eyes.
"So you love him then?" Jessica asks and Gina shakes her head because, every time they ask her if she loves him, she lies.
The next day, they are all sat in the Tripp's sitting room. He is looking around the room, looking at everything except her and innocently overlooking the fact that she is obviously staring at him.
She doesn't know why the light of understanding is not shining in his expressive green eyes. After all, she has had him memorized for so long. She wonders, with a sad smile, how he hasn't noticed this.
The way he sees life is so exact. He says what he thinks in plain black and white like a newspaper- giving his opinion on a matter and arguing his cause no matter what.
If something gets him down, she notices, he never lets anyone see him cry. Instead he carries on and acts like nothing is wrong.
She doesn't want the others to see her wishing that he was hers- simply wishing because it was a desire she knew would never come true.
But, as she remembers his favorite color and his eyes, her friends ask, "Are you sure you're not in love with him?" When she replies, she lies because that's what she does when she's asked if she loves him.
When they leave, they walk home together. As they reach the end of the street where they will have to go their separate ways, he stands and looks at her for a few moments before walking away. She just hopes he doesn't notice that she is holding her every breath for him.
She is the only one to know about his talent for playing the guitar. Not even his friends know about it- he practices in secret and she had accidentally walked in on one of those secret practice sessions one day and had been immediately blown away by the skill of his playing. After he had finished, he swore her to secrecy and she knew that he would never have told her of his own free will that he could play the guitar so well.
He is the most observant person she knows. She thinks he can see through everything, yet he doesn't seem to be able to see through her heart.
Her first thought, when she wakes up the next morning, is of how beautiful he is to her both inside and out. She could never compare to someone like him- she merely lives in his glow.
As she methodically applies her makeup, she finds herself praying for a miracle. She wishes for him to notice her feelings and reciprocate them. At that moment she is alone with her hopes and dreams- they surround her like a blanket making her feel comforted and warm.
Once again, she remembers his eyes and his favorite color. "Do I love him?" she asks herself. She cannot bring herself to admit the truth because, no matter who's asking, when she's asked if she loves him...
She'd lie.
