Description: Despite hating it in the Primal Pad, he cared enough about her to stay by her side, even when she was sick.
Jessica's POV
Today, so far, has been awful. I woke up feeling sick to my stomach and I could hardly move due to how exhausted I felt. I was shivering despite feeling really warm and I felt numb and clammy. It took a whole fifteen minutes for me to even attempt to sit upright. I felt glad that there was no rush as it was the weekend so I could afford to be slow.
Somehow I managed to make it downstairs without fainting. I politely turned down Mrs Tripp's offer of breakfast as just the sight of food was making my stomach churn. I felt hotter and my skin must have been flushed because Toby and Nick kept asking me if I was okay.
Soon after breakfast was over, Mr and Mrs Tripp left to go to work. My head had started hurting so I clutched it and leaned against the table, hoping it would cool me down. Barely five minutes after that, Lucas arrived - he, too, asked me if I was okay and I merely shrugged.
We left the table and sat on the sofas. Toby and I were sat on one sofa whilst Lucas and Nick sat on the other. We were watching TV quietly when all of a sudden a voice cut through the air: "Hurry, Lords of Nature, the Air Gormiti are in serious danger!"
I sprang to my feet. "Well, we have to help them, then!" I croaked. However I hadn't taken my dizziness into account and suddenly found myself feeling rather faint. My vision started to blur and, before I knew it, I had slipped on the floor into a dead faint...
Toby's POV
We all stared at Jessica as she fainted and Razzle shook his head and said, "Oh dear! I had hoped that Jessica wouldn't be affected!"
I glared at him. "Affected by what exactly?" I demanded as I rushed to Jessica's side. "What's wrong with her - I thought she was just sick?" I turned back towards Jessica as she slowly started to come round. "Hey." I said gently. "You scared us there."
"W-What happened to me?" She asked, looking around in confusion as though she didn't remember what had happened.
"You passed out." Nick explained. "I think you might have stood up too quickly."
Jessica had a look of dawning comprehension on her face. "Oh, well at least that explains why I'm on the floor." She said, trying to crack a smile.
We all looked at Razzle who gulped. "What were you saying, Razzle?" Lucas asked slowly.
"Well, Obscurio has cast a spell on the fog barrier that surrounds the Air Nation and it's become poisonous. As a result, the Air Gormiti are all being poisoned!" He finished dramatically.
There was a pause before Nick, Lucas and I all yelled, "What?"
"We'd better sort out this mess before things get any worse in Gorm!" Nick said, sounding worried.
Somehow we all made down to the Primal Pad without anything disastrous happening - like Jessica passing out again and falling down the steps. Luckily that didn't happen, much to my relief.
Razzle didn't waste any time with an overlong speech so we all gathered around the portal and called out our elements.
"And the Keeper is..." Razzle called out as the chair started spinning at high speed. We all glanced in his direction as he yelled out, "Air!"
Jessica started to shuffle slowly toward the Keeper's chair but she had barely taken two steps forward before she collapsed again.
At once, we all rushed to her side and I gently cradled her in my arms. "What do we do?" I asked, looking at the others. "Jessica's in no condition to play Keeper and I have a feeling that things would only get worse if she went to Gorm."
"You're probably right," Lucas agreed. "But what choice do we have? Remember what happened the last time we switched Keeper?" He then turned to Nick. "What about you? Got any ideas?"
Nick shrugged and shook his head. I was getting an idea in my head but it probably wouldn't be treated as a good idea. "What if one of us stated behind with her to take care of everything?" I suggested, looking down at her as I spoke. All of a sudden, I knew it had to be me that stayed behind - I couldn't leave her alone like this.
Nick and Lucas seemed to have reached the same conclusion as they glanced significantly at one another before staring at me. "Are you sure? You hate staying in the Primal Pad!" Lucas asked me, looking at me with concern.
"Yeah, I'm sure," I respond as Jessica wakes up again. "Are you alright?" I ask her.
"It hurts..." She whimpered, raising her head weakly to look at me.
I take her hand. "Where does it hurt?" I question gently. Clearly the situation in Gorm was worsening.
"Everywhere..." She said as I glanced anxiously at the others. She suddenly clung to me and gasped, "Please don't leave me - I don't want to be alone."
I looked at the others briefly before saying, "I won't leave you, Jess, not ever. I promise." She manages to smile and leans her head against my shoulder.
Nick and Lucas look at me and I nod. They jump into the portal and I turn towards Jessica. "Looks like it's just you and me now."
Normal POV
Whilst Nick and Lucas were in Gorm, trying to work out what to do about the perilous situation, Toby had taken over the more taxing Keeper duties - namely checking the library to find any information on the spell Obscurio had used and if there was a counterspell.
Not only that, he also had to keep a close watch on Jessica who seemed to be getting even weaker. She had passed out five times since Nick and Lucas had left and Toby had, at one point, worried that she wouldn't wake up again.
He rifled through the pages of several books, discarding them when they failed to give any relevant information. Razzle assisted, giving pointers as to where he should be looking and running to check on Jessica at regular intervals.
Eventually, after Nick and Lucas had just defeated the Lava Gormiti led by Armageddon, Toby finally found something. His eyes widened in horror as he read the passage before he let out a sigh. Razzle scampered up on to the control panel as Toby contacted Nick and Lucas with the news.
"Okay, guys," he began. "It looks like the Curse Obscurio cast is adding a poisonous gas to the fog - like carbon monoxide - which is what's affecting the Air Gormiti. The bad news is that it's starting to affect birds on Earth: they're migrating early. The good news is that I found a mention of a antidote but it doesn't actually say what it is."
"Good work, bro!" Nick praised him. "I bet Supreme Luminous will know what it is."
Toby nodded. "Yeah, you're right!" He turned to Razzle and said, "Can you gate them to Supreme Luminous while I check on Jessica?"
Razzle complied and used the golden crystal to gate Nick and Lucas to the Temple of Light. Meanwhile Toby went to see how Jessica was doing - she seemed to have fallen unconscious again but she didn't seem to be getting any worse.
Supreme Luminous informed Nick and Lucas that the antidote they had to find was the Silver Feather belonging to a pegasus who had befriended the Air Nation in ancient times. Apparently the feathers of a pegasus bore healing powers which could be used to save the Air Gormiti as well as the Gorm.
Toby and Razzle watched from the Primal Pad as Nick and Lucas set off to find the pegasus. Unfortunately Obscurio had anticipated this and sent Magmion along with some Lava soldiers to slow them down.
Eventually, after a few skirmishes, the two friends found the pegasus. At first, the pegasus was hostile and refused to hand the feather over until Nick explained that the Air Nation was in trouble. She remembered how the Air Nation had saved her when she was just a foal and allowed them to take a feather, telling them that they were worthy of her trust.
Immediately, after thanking her, they rushed back to the main citadel of the Air Nation. Things seemed to be getting much worse - the spell seemed to be affecting other Gormiti tribes too.
When they arrived, Nick held the feather in the air. They all watched with bated breath as the feather started to glow and the fog was lit up with a bright light.
"It's working!" Razzle cheered. "You did it!" On the screen, they could see the Air Gormiti getting up, looking stronger than ever. Many of them were soaring joyfully into the air, rejoicing.
"How's Jessica?" Lucas asked.
Toby glanced over his shoulder. "Oh, she's..."
"Feeling a lot better." Jessica said, having fully recovered. "Thanks to you guys!" She grinned and brought Nick and Lucas back to Earth. They had barely set foot on the ground when Jessica initiated a group hug, Razzle perched on her shoulder.
"It's great to have things back to normal," Lucas said as they headed up to the house.
"Yeah," Jessica agreed. "It was so awful being so sick but the good thing was you fussing over me every two seconds. I'm actually going to miss that." This, she directed at Toby who grinned at her and yelped as she hugged him. "Thanks." She told him.
"In sickness and in health..." Nick teased, laughing as they both went bright red.
"We're not married yet!" They yelled in unison, both of them blushing madly.
There was a pause before Lucas said dryly, "Well, you argue like an old married couple."
Both he and Nick started laughing uncontrollably. After a moment, Toby and Jessica started to laugh too, realising the joke.
"Very funny, Lucas." Toby sighed as Lucas tried to control his laughter. "Very funny."
