Chapter 4

Harper sits down on the park bench with Zeke waiting for Alex and Justin to arrive. It is Friday evening after school.

"Are you excited to see our best friends?" Zeke questions.

"I miss Alex. I know it's only been a few days." Harper sighs.

Before Zeke could say anything else, Zeke and Harper hear Justin's and Alex's voices.

"I didn't kick you on purpose!" Alex argues.

"Oh yeah, a complete accident." Looking at their best friends, Harper and Zeke notice Justin's and Alex's eyes are still purple and their fangs are still a little bit visible. Twice, Harper accidentally walked in on the Lupin family changing, but Alex immediately protected her by standing in front of her growling when her father went to attack her. Now, Harper always makes sure full moon nights are none visiting days. Even Zeke knows because he is the one she ran to. It was three years ago.

Walking over to the siblings, Zeke stops Alex's skateboard with his foot, causing her to fly off and crash into her best friend. Holding Alex up, Harper glares at Zeke.

"Ow, ow, ow, ow." Alex mutters immediately pulling away from Harper rubbing the exposed skin of her arm. Feeling the burning for himself, Justin knows their father can feel it too.

"That wasn't funny Zeke. Any other time, sure. But the days of and a few days after a full moon, no." Justin snaps.

"Oh crap. I'm sorry. I forgot. Are you okay, Alex?" Zeke asks nervous. If anyone touches Alex or Justin after a full moon, the skin at least, burns him or her. If you touch Justin, Alex and Lupin will feel it too. If it's Alex, Justin and Lupin will feel it.

Hearing growling behind them, Zeke and Harper immediately steps away from the siblings. There is an exhausted Lupin. Lupin walks over to Alex, holding her to him. Hearing Lupin purr a little, he licks the spot that is hurting his daughter. By midnight, the full moon will completely be passed, letting Alex, Justin and Lupin go back to normal.

Picking Alex up, Lupin exposes his slowly disappearing fangs, growling loudly until Alex nips his chin. Looking down at her, Lupin stops growling before rubbing his nose against her's. Every full moon and the day after, Justin, Alex and Lupin remember parts but not everything. They only remember the pain and the morning they wake up. But that is all. Normally Mad-Eye, Harper and Zeke tell them what happened from what they see.

~A&H~

Sitting next to her father and Justin on her left, Alex covers herself and Lupin with her father's coat as she reads her books that Albus Dumbledore sent her. Resting her head on Lupin's shoulder as she reads, Justin reads his books calmly.

Feeling the train move, Alex hears Lupin's soft snoring, calming her.

Closing her eyes, Alex hears Justin's breathing evens, also putting her to sleep.

"All the compartments are full besides this one." Alex hears a male voice whisper.

"Who are they?" Another male asks.

"The older gentleman is R.J Lupin. The other two are A.R Lupin and J.D Lupin." A female replies.

Deciding to open her eyes Alex covers her mouth as she yawns, before sitting up slightly.

Wiping the sleep from her eyes, Alex sees two guys and a girl sitting across from her, Justin wide-awake and her father still sleeping. Pulling the coat up to her chin, Alex rests her head on Lupin's chest staring at the people across from her.

"Uhm, not to be rude, but who are you?" Justin asks on guard, in case if someone makes a move to attack his little sister.

"Oh, uhm, I'm Ron Weasley." The red haired boy, Ron, starts.

"Harry Potter." The black haired boy, Harry, nods.

"I'm Hermione Granger. You are?" The only girl, Hermione, asks politely.

"I'm Justin. This is my little sister, Alex. And this is our father, who is a professor at Hogwarts." Justin answers.

"What subject will he be teaching?" Ron asks, before hearing the brakes of the train squeal.

Alex grabs Lupin's sweater's sleeve tightly, to wake him up.

"What's going on?" Alex asks nervously, pulling her knees to her chest.

"Maybe it's a drill the conductor has to do." Justin suggests rubbing Alex's back soothingly.

"I don't think so, there are people out there." Ron whispers.

"Ronald, stop. Can't you see you are scaring her more?" Hermione snaps catching Ron and Harry's attention. Seeing their eyes wide as the lights go out, Hermione looks at the door to see a black-cloaked figure with skeleton hands.

Alex stares at the door as the figure slowly opens the door. Hearing his sister's pants, Justin pulls out his wand defensively.

Slowly the door opens letting the figure float into the room. Watching it turn to each person, Alex feels the air and her emotions turn to all dark. Not able to speak Alex tries to move her hand to shake her father awake, but the movement doesn't happen. Seeing Harry collapse onto the ground before the figure turn to Hermione, Alex lets out a scream she has been trying to let out.

"DAD!" Right at her scream, the figure turns away from Hermione and to her. Hearing a growl followed by warm arms wrapping around her, before hiding her under the coat and into his body, Alex sees a faint blue light flash before whooshing sounds and slamming doors.

"Are you all okay?" Alex hears Lupin ask before she hears the familiar sound of crinkling from the chocolate wrappers.

Slowly pulling the coat down, Alex looks fearfully around the room to find all the lights on and Hermione, Ron and Justin eating chocolate.

"Eat yours, honey. Once all of you are done, we will move around so we can lay Mr. Potter on the seats." Lupin hands Alex her piece before he eats his own.

Once the chocolate is gone, Alex takes Ron's rat and Hermione's cat as Ron, Justin and Lupin lift Harry onto the seats while Hermione has the animals' cages and bags.

~H&A~

Sitting in Lupin's seat, Alex has her father's coat wrapped around her as she nibbles on the last piece of chocolate Lupin gave her. Lupin told her to give Harry his chocolate when he awakes. Playing with her brother's fingers as he sleeps, Alex looks away from the window and to Hermione who is sitting on the floor with her eyes closed.

Feeling someone's eyes on her, Hermione opens them to find Alex's terrified brown eyes.

"Hey." Hermione smiles softly.

"Hi." Alex whispers biting her bottom lip. Seeing the young girl's worry, Hermione shifts so she is sitting cross-legged in front of her.

"May I ask you some questions, and if you like, I could answer them to." Hermione offers.

"I guess." Alex shrugs.

"How old are you?"

"I'm eleven."

"How about your brother?"

"Justin's fifteen. You?"

"I'm thirteen." Alex nods looking at the older girl before looking away quickly.

"So you are just starting your first year and your brother is starting his fifth year?"

"Yes."

"How come your brother hasn't been to the school before?"

"Dad was home schooling us." Alex sighs, "But when he's not home, our babysitter does it. He's annoying." Alex rolls her eyes.

"Your babysitter is annoying?" Hermione asks confused but amused at the same time.

"Yes. He has eyes at the back of his head. I was going to meet a friend by sneaking out. He was on the other side of the house and just called out 'Don't think about it, Girly!'" Alex giggles.

"Are you a pure blood?" Ron interrupts.

"Ronald." Hermione glares seeing Alex's uncomfortable look.

"I don't actually know. Mom and dad both went to Hogwarts. They met there." Alex takes the last bite of her chocolate, "But I don't know. I don't even care about that blood status. I care about who you are, not where you come from or your family."

Hermione smiles, "I think your parents raised you well."

"You mean dad." Alex whispers frowning.

"I'm sorry if I made you upset or anything." Hermione apologizes not catching what Alex whispered.

"No. You didn't. You mean 'I think your dad raised you well.' I don't have a mom." Alex reveals. Lupin told her before they all fell asleep, that many people would know from their Defence Against the Dark Arts books and other books in the library that Alex and Justin lost their mother eleven years ago. Alex gave up trying to absorb half of the things Lupin and Justin say about their mother because it does not make sense to her.

"I am so sorry." Hermione whispers frowning.

"I never knew her." Breaking the conversation, the girls hear a moan coming from Harry as he sits up.

As Hermione passes Harry his glasses, Harry puts them on before Alex passes him the chocolate. Harry just looks at her confused.

"It's helps. Just eat it or you won't feel good for a couple of days." Alex sighs. After Harry accepts it, Alex leans back and stares out the window watching the rainfall.
