3. Wood
Wood is the tree that grows wherever it can find its soil: earth or water. Wood is what burns fast and fiercely when lit, that smoulders heavily when wet, but doesn't melt and change, only dies. Wood is the limitless potential of earth and water and air: the recycler and feeder and shader and leader. Wood is the unflappable stern figure not quite at the front, that looks to the sun and keeps the smaller ones on its back. Wood is the obstacle that halts the sprinters, the wind, and grips the earth and is gripped by them in return.
