5. Darkness
Darkness is the night sky bound by day on both sides: the lullaby and protector of sleep, the masker of secrets, the ballroom within which the stars dance. Darkness is the black hole in which there is no sound nor light: where things vanish from being. Darkness is also the force that hides potholes and stones on the road, that hides the candle of truth beckoning to safer paths, that chases away the sun coaxing sprouts from their seeds under soil. Darkness is the slumber that embraces old pains and shelters from new hurts, but also leaves false and entombed.
