"Melanie." Arthur said as he stepped into her room. She was sat up in bed reading a book.

"Hello Sire." She replied carefully, putting her book down. "What can I do for you?"

"Have you seen Merlin around?" He chose his words carefully. He spoke as gently as possible.

"Sire," Melanie began, standing from the bed. "If I may. Merlin has used his magic for nothing but good I can assure you. And..."

"Melanie." He cut her off. "I do not wish to punish him. I know of his kindness and compassion. That he never wished to harm Camelot."

"Then what do you plan to do?" She asked. "I wish no harm comes to Merlin but, as King, you should know that if you let him free, you'll be breaking your own law. You'll lose the respect of the people. Your crown will be on the line."

"I've thought about that. And I have decided to lift the ban on magic." The news surprised her. She looked at the king waiting for further information. "I realized, the reason we've had so many attacks in the past was because of this law. They only wish to be able to practice freely."

"That is very noble of you Sire." Melanie complemented. "Last I saw Merlin he was with Gwain."

"Thank you." He stepped out of the room, but not before turning and saying. "And by the way. Congratulations." She smiled at the king. The man who had changed so much in a short time.

Arthur walked briskly through the halls of the castle, looking for Merlin. He found the young servant in Gaius's chambers.

"Merlin." He said solemnly. "I have made my decision."

"Of course." Merlin stood before his King and best friend.

"I'm lifting the law against magic." Arthur told him.

"Why?" The question surprised Arthur. He'd thought Merlin would be happy about the news. "Why would you put the respect of the people on the line for me?"

"I'll tell you the same I told Melanie." Arthur replied. "These battles we've fought. These enemies we've made. They have been made by this law. If it weren't for this law, I'd still have my sister."

The revelation shocked Merlin. He hadn't heard him refer to Morgana as his sister ever.

"I'd rather not lose a brother to it as well." A small smile cracked across Merlin's face.

"That's very noble of you Arthur."

"The announcement will be made tomorrow." Arthur said. "I'd like you to be there."

"Of course."

The next morning, the King called the people of Camelot to the castle.

"Good people of Camelot." He began. "Over the last few days, I have learned new things about our fair kingdom. I have learned that our law on magic has caused these battles we've been forced to fight. It is this law that has made us so many enemies. It is thanks to Merlin that I've seen this.

"Because of this, I have decided to lift the ban on magic." Arthur announced. He waited for a reaction from the crowd. A murmur spread through the throng before a cheer rang out.

"I've made one more decision I'd like to announce." Arthur continued. "A few days ago, I discovered my manservant, Merlin, had magic. And that everything he's ever used it for, has been to help this kingdom. From this point forward, I name Merlin Court Sorcerer of Camelot!" Merlin looked baffled as Arthur motioned him forward.

The crowd cheered below. Melanie and Gwain watched from the side, smiling and cheering with the villagers.

The king dismissed the people and entered the castle with Gwen on his arm.

"Court Sorcerer?" Merlin asked, baffled. "I'm honored Sire."

"You deserve it Merlin." Gwen smiled. "It's time the good you do for this kingdom is recognized."

"I will not let you down." Merlin promised. "I swear."
