It was nearly three days before the newlywed couple emerged from their chambers. They dawned their chainmail and went to the training grounds.
"Nice of you two to finally join us." Leon jested. "Do you even remember how to fight?"
"I'm certain I can still take you." Melanie replied, unsheathing her sword. There was a clang of steel on steel as the two swung their blades at each other. Melanie had him pinned to the ground in record time.
"Told you." She laughed, replacing her sword in its sheath.
"Lovely Darling." Gwain cheered, laughing with her. Melanie helped Leon from the ground.
"I should have never doubted you My Lady." Leon clapped her shoulder.
The couple spent the day sparing. There was one round between Melanie and Gwain which ended with them both on the ground, Melanie on top of Gwain. They shared a quick kiss as the others whistled.
After their first night, Melanie became quickly accustomed to married life and its intimate activities. Even taking it upon herself to initiate said activities.
She kissed him once more and, as she got up, rubbed her leg against him. He bit his lip to stifle a moan of pleasure.
They continued to train until the sun was sinking in the horizon. After eating a quick dinner, they disappeared back to their chambers.
Before the door closed all the way, Gwain had shed their chain mail and had Melanie pinned against the wall.
"That wasn't fair what you did in the courtyard." He scolded playfully.
"And what do you plan to do about it?" She replied, licking her lips.
"Return the favor of course." He said, ravishing her neck with kisses. With his knee, he spread her legs apart and began rubbing his leg against her. Causing her to emit a deep, throaty moan.
He began trailing his lips up her neck to her ear, leaving kisses and bites as he moved along her jawline. His lips were mere inches away from her own and, right before they met, he began kissing the other side of her face.
"Please." She begged. "I need you." Her hands played with his tunic before she moved them underneath it. Running her hands over his hard stomach.
Her begging paid off as Gwain pulled off his tunic and began pulling at hers. Their clothes landed in a pile on the floor as Melanie caught Gwain's lips with her own. They kicked off their boots and Gwain lifted her off the floor, wrapping her legs around his hips.
... Scene Break ...
They lay together, all sweaty bodies and tangled limbs. They shared light kisses as the candles burned low.
"Melanie," Gwain said. "I have something to ask."
"Anything." She said.
"Have you seen anything of our future?" He grabbed onto her hand.
"No." She admitted. "I don't chose when the visions appear. And when they do, they are usually filled with darkness. It is rare when one of my visions shows something good."
"Then I'm glad you haven't seen anything." Gwain smiled and kissed her hand. "I'd much rather our future be a surprise."
With her head on his chest and his arms around her protectively, they fell asleep in each other's embrace.
At least, Gwain did.
Melanie lay awake late into the night, once again worrying about what their future would bring. There would always be danger of course. That was evident in their line of work. Would they be able to have children? Did she even want children? If she did become pregnant, she wouldn't be able to fight. It would be too dangerous. Even if she'd want to, Gwain wouldn't allow it. He wouldn't want their child put in danger like that.
The prospect of putting her life on hold to carry a baby was frightening to say the least. Now that she was married, it was expected of her to bear her husbands children.
She wiggled out of Gwain's arms and wrapped her robe around herself, sitting at the window.
"Melanie?" Gwain asked, his voice filled with sleep. "What's the matter?" He stood from the bed and approached his wife.
"Just lost in thought." She replied.
"Would you mind telling me what you're thinking so intently on?" She looked down, not wanting to meet his gaze.
"Do you ever think about having children?" She asked, twisting her ring around her finger.
"There are times I think about it." He gave her a confused look. "Darling, are you pregnant?"
"No." She assured. "I was just thinking about... What would happen if I were to become pregnant? I can't be a knight and carry a child at the same time."
"Do you want children?" He asked.
"I've never really thought about it. Becoming a knight was my only priority."
"Alright," he said. "Take away all of these thoughts about what would happen with your knighthood. Imagine you holding a child in your arms. With your golden hair and silver eyes. A child who we could teach to fight when they get older. If they chose not to fight then we'll teach them the social graces.
"Your knighthood is safe. Arthur would never release the best knight Camelot has ever seen from her vow because she becomes a mother. You would be able to return in a few months and we can still raise a child."
Melanie did picture it. Someone she could guide in life. A child. Her child. Their child. Maybe life could wait. She could return when the child was born. She would still be able to care for a child.
"May I ask what brought this on?" Gwain asked, lifting her chin so she would look at him.
"I'm your wife. It's expected of me to bear your children."
"Our children." He corrected. "Do you want to bear our children?"
"I do."
"Well if that's what you want. It's what I want." He cupped her face in his hands and kissed her softly. "I would never force you to do what you don't want."
"I know."
"I love you."
"And I, you."
"Come back to bed." She stood from the ledge and returned to the comfort of her husbands arms. Her head rested on his chest once more and his steady heartbeat lulled her to sleep.
