Chapter 2

Percy's POV

Grover fell over off his chair but everyone was too busy clapping and introducing themselves to Nancy to notice. I stood up abruptly and marched over to where Chiron stood by the head table. This time Nancy noticed me and her face turned white.

"Jackson?" she asked confusion.

"Chiron this has to be a mistake. She can't be a half-blood!" I said though my voice sounded a little panicked, I hoped nobody noticed.

"Now Percy" Chiron said calmly "I know what you're thinking. It might be difficult to believe that a another demigod was with you at your old school but I'm sure there is an explanation to why we couldn't pick up her scent as we did yours but Nancy is just figuring out who she is. I'm sure you can relate to that. So for now please be sensitive-"

"Sensitive!" That came out a little louder than I intended. A few of the other campers started to look over at the head table.

"You want me to be sensitive to HER! She never cared if she hurt Grover's feelings or got me in trouble" I spat out. My anger and resentment welled up inside of me.

"Percy lower your voice please" Chiron warned.

"But this can't be happening! You can't be serious! There's no-"

"Percy…"

"-way. How could you miss that? You were at the same school the whole year and nobody noticed! Not even -"

"Percy!"

"What!"

"Calm down" he yelled. The campers fell silent and the commotion at the tables died down. Everyone started looking our way and listening to Chiron and my conversation. I turned around and found Annabeth looking at me. She put her hands in the air and mouthed "What's going on?" I only shook my head then turned back to Chiron and Nancy.

"You're here? What-I don't understand? You're a...a half-blood" Nancy stammered getting over her shock.

"Yeah and I'm hoping you're not!" I snapped turning away from her.

Grover stood up off the floor now finally coming too. He rubbed his head groaning muttering something about a bad nightmare and then sat at the head table again.

"You too?!" Nancy gasped turning her attention to Grover who nearly jumped off his chair wide eyed realizing it wasn't a dream.

"Well...I'm not a half-blood I'm...uhh" Grover faltered looking terrified of Nancy.

"Chiron, are you sure?" I asked. I know I was starting to sound annoying but I didn't know how to handle this situation. The one person who I didn't want to see again was at this camp, my home which I just saved and I didn't like it.

"Yes Percy " Chiron started " After the battle many demigods started to realize who they were and our satyrs started bring them to our camp to be claimed. Nancy is only the first of many to come. We've lost a lot of great heroes Percy so be grateful that demigods are joining our camp. We need all the new hero's we can get."

I knew he was right, we had lost a lot of great warriors in the Titan war, and many had been my friends. I looked down at the ground trying to focus on how hurt I felt about losing them.

"Who's her godly parent?" I asked.

"Well that's the question we all want to be answered, but patience. In time we will know and as we wait Nancy please follow me back to the big house so we can start orientation" Chiron walked towards the Big House and Nancy stood up to follow.

Nancy looked me in the eyes then turned to follow Chiron.

She was taller and much older now, wearing a blue t shirt and jeans with sneakers. Her hair was longer and swayed as she walked. Her freckles were softer on her cheeks and I notice her teeth were straighter since how she looked in the 6th grade. I normally would have thought she was decent looking if it wasn't for the fact she was a rude disgusting bully for my past.

"Why her?" Grover asked himself as he rubbed his head. "Why didn't I notice her?"

"I don't know but...she can't be one of us" I said then returned back to table but my appetite had left me.

That afternoon Annabeth found me at the Arena practicing my sword fighting skills on a few straw dummies as I always did when I was upset.

" Hey" she called as she walked in. The smile on her face made all my angry melt away.

"I missed you after breakfast" she said.

"Oh yeah I had to take care of a few things" I lied. I felt horrible for not telling her the truth, that I came straight over here after breakfast and been here for hours hacking dummies.

Annabeth looked me in the eyes and crossed her arms over her chest. She knew I was lying but she didn't call me out for it.

"So what was all that about this morning with Chiron and the new girl?" She asked.

"Nothing" I said turning away from her and pretending to study Riptide. I wasn't sure if I should tell Annabeth about Nancy. Not like there was anything between Nancy and I but I still was having trouble figuring it all out.

"You don't...know her? Do you?"

I didn't answer her question.

"Percy?" she begged.

"I do know her" I said giving in. "She was a student at my 6th grade middle school before I came here. It was a long time ago."

"So you two are old friends?"

"No! Never will be" I spat.

She raised her eyebrows "Ok well...I just wanted to know" She sounded relived.

Annabeth put her hair up and then took out her dagger.

"So about that bet" she sang.

I smiled grateful to change the subject. "Prepare to lose" I chimed.

I strike first but she sidestepped and blocked my sword. I stepped forward forcing her to move backwards a few steps. Annabeth was a great sword fighter even if she used only a dagger. She knew strategy. The only thing was I knew her moves as well as she knew mine so there wasn't anyone winning. After a few moments we made our way to the center of the ring. I decided to try and knock her sword away with that trick Luke taught me a long time ago but right when I was about to do so someone called my name.

"Percy!" I got distracted and forgot to defend myself. Annabeth kicked my chest and sent me to the floor. Knelling over putting her knee on my chest and her dagger at my throat she grinned.

" Go Annabeth!" Grover yelled.

We both looked up at Grover, Chiron and Nancy walking into the arena. With Annabeth looking up I took this opportunity to strike. I swatted her dagger away from my neck and pushed her shoulders rolling her onto her back. I kicked her dagger away out of reach and rested Riptide on her neck keeping her from sitting up.

Annabeth grunted in frustration as she tried to wiggle out of my grasp.

"Let me go!" she said.

"What's the magic words?" I teased.

"Percy get off" she said rolling her eyes.

"Not until you say the magic words! Don't be a sore loser"

" Ilovepercyjackson" she mumbled.

"I'm sorry I couldn't hear you" I said.

"I said I loved you" she giggled.

"What was that? Could you speak up?"

"I LOVE PERCY JACKSON" she half yelled half laughed so the whole arena echoed. I let her go just enough for her to push me off rolling onto my back.

"Oh stop it you love birds" Grover said helping us both up.

"Hello Chiron" Annabeth said whipping the strands of hair out of her face. Nancy appeared by Chiron's side and Annabeth scowled.

"What's up" I said.

"I was just showing Nancy around camp when we came up on your interesting fight" Chiron said.

I looked away hoping no one saw me blushing.

"Grover!" Someone called. Juniper stormed into the arena with her arms crossed. "what is wrong with you?" she demanded.

Grover crossed his arms and turned the other way.

"I ask the same thing" he said.

"Grover you losing it! We need to talk" Juniper said.

"I don't want to ta-AHH" Juniper grabbed him by the ear and pulled him out of the arena. Annabeth and I started to laugh when another camper ran into the arena. Stacy from the Aphrodite cabin whispered something in Chiron ear. He nodded and said" I'll be right there".

"What's wrong?" I asked.

"One of the horses hurt his wing. Annabeth can you take Nancy from here" he said. Annabeth shifter her weight to the other leg her gray eyes looking darker than ever.

"I can't. I have Greek study with Courtney in 5" she stated.

"Oh...well, Percy can you take her?"

"What!" I said. I couldn't believe he was asking me out of all people to take Nancy site seeing around our camp.

"Percy please". Chiron gave me a stern look and I made the mistake of looking into his big brown eyes.

"Fine" I mumbled.

"Great take her around to the cabins and introduce her to where she'll be staying. Lunch is at 4" Then with that Chiron trotted off.

"Well I'll leave you two. I got to check up with Courtney" Annabeth said then she planted a kiss on my cheek and walked away.

I turned to face Nancy who was now starring at the ground.

"Come on" I said not knowing what I got myself into.
