No Way! Not Her!
Chapter 4
Percy's POV
Grover started to shake and make gasping sounds like he was having a hard time breathing. This only made Nancy laugh even more. I felt my anger rising, I was not about to let her start bulling us again. Grover wasn't helping the situation and I wished he would stop acting scared so we didn't give Nancy the satisfaction.
"Grover, stop it." I told him "I'm not going to let her-"
"Baaahhhhhhh" Grover screamed. Nancy had just thrown bar-b-que sauce at the back of Grover's head.
I stood up from my table but Nancy only raised her eyebrows and put hands on her hips.
"Is there a problem?" she asked innocently acting like she didn't just pelt my best friend with the sticky sauce on her plate.
I wanted to reach over this table and give her a piece of my mind but I knew I'd get into trouble and that's exactly what she wanted. I looked over at the head table where Mr. D was busy reading a magazine and Chiron was nowhere in sight.
"Stop picking on him" I demanded.
"And if I don't?"Nancy challenged. This time she stood up grabbing her plate of food and shoving it at my chest, bar-b-que dripped down my shirt.
"That's for not helping me" she said.
I looked back at Mr. D who was still oblivious of the situation. A few of the campers where starting to look up at Nancy and I and started to whisper. Then I grabbed a piece of brisket off my plate and flung it at Nancy, sauce smearing across her cheek.
"And that was for coming here" I stated a little louder.
One of the Stoll brothers took this opportunity to stand up and yell "FOOD FIGHT!" and with fists full of food all hell broke loose.
Tacos, salad, pasta, pizza, chips, enchiladas, soda cans, cheese, and fruit were flying. Campers ducked for cover under the tables as others were throwing food in their faces. Nancy, covered in salad dressing and pizza sauce, was throwing salad at me. Grover was hiding under the table as I defended him with a plate full pasta. I ducked as a piece of cheese flew over my head. I grabbed a hand full of whatever was next to me and throw it at Nancy. Standing up I felt a splat of ketchup hit the side of my right cheek. Then a enchilada covered the other cheek. I ducked again and crawled under the table with Grover. Stacy, the daughter of Aphrodite, ran over to Nancy.
"Nancy, why are you throwing food? I just fixed your hair!" she wailed. Then a taco hit her pink shirt. Stacy screamed and ducked under the table, grabbing Nancy with her.
I looked over at the Athena table and saw Annabeth making her way towards me and Grover. Her hair was a mess and her clothes weren't spared. She ducked under our table just a spray of Dr. Pepper shot out from a soda can barely missing her.
"Seaweed Brain!" Annabeth grumbled obviously upset about the crazy situation I just created.
"I didn't mean to! Nancy-"
"Why is it that every time there a commotion or fight going on it's because you and that new girl causing it?"
"I-I was defending Grover!" I tried to explain.
A clump of rice sailed across the table a landed on the back of my neck. I looked up and saw Nancy holding a plate full of rice and more in her hand ready to fire.
"That's it" I yelled and stood out from under the table.
"Percy!" Annabeth warned me but I had enough of Nancy nonsense. I felt that tugging in my gut and a wave of water from the creek splashed and made its way to the pavilion. The water began to spin into a funnel surrounding Nancy who looked shocked and confused about what was happening. I stepped inside the funnel of water and just as I was about to send a current of water to splash Nancy in the face something caught my eye. I released the water from its funnel and it rained down on Nancy drenching her from head to toe. Everyone had stopped what they were throwing and starred at the bright gold sign hovering above Nancy head.
"What?" Nancy demanded noticing everyone looking at her. Just then Chiron galloped into the dinning area and looked around at the scene then back at Mr. D who looked up from his magazine and noticed the situation for the first time. "Great gods what in Hades is going on?" he asked then stopped in his tracks to observe the glowing symbol above Nancy.
The image was clear. A pair of wings shimmered around a green wreath in glittering gold.
"The Winged Goddess" Chiron announced "of strength and speed. Nancy Bobofits, daughter of Nike, Goddess of Victory".
Nancy looked up at the image as it faded away.
"My mother?" Nancy whispered to herself.
"Yes, Child you have been claimed. Tonight you will move into your proper cabin." Chiron said. Then he turned around to face the campers who were all staring silently at the ground hope Chiron didn't notice the amount of food and drinks thrown around the dinning area.
"Now will someone tell me who started this...food fight" Everyone pointed at Nancy and me. Who standing looking guilty with food covering our clothes.
"Yes I can see Percy had a part in this" Chiron stated raising his eye brows looking at Nancy would was drenched in water still.
Stacy was trying to get the food out of Nancy hair now. "Oh my gods Nancy, you're a mess! You need to go back to my cabin so I can help you get cleaned up" Stacy said.
"Nancy isn't going anywhere but to the kitchen with Mr. Jackson to do dishes and back here to clean this whole place up" Chiron said.
"What!" I groaned.
Chiron turned around to look at me and turned away feeling ashamed.
"Alright, shows over! Everyone back to their cabins! You're all lucky I don't cancel tomorrow's game of Capture the Flag!" Chiron announced.
Everyone started to quickly leave the pavilion because I know they were looking forward to the game tomorrow against the Poseidon and Athena cabins. I turned back to Annabeth who was whipping pasta out of her hair.
"Annabeth, I'm sorry" I said. She still didn't answer.
She only turned around and started walking to her cabin.
" Fine, I see...your just scared that I'm gonna beat you at Capture the Flag tomorrow" I said.
"What! " She wiped around to face me. "You're going down!"
I smiled because I knew I could get her attention again. "Oh is that so?"
"Yes, Athena always has a plan" Annabeth said confidently.
"So about that bet we made"
"It's still on! Prepare to lose" she said.
I already have something in mind for you to do, once I win the bet"
"It wouldn't matter because I'm gonna win"
"Well see about that" I said the tried to hug her but she only pushed me away.
"Sorry I can't hug the enemy" she teased. I grabbed her hand pulling her closer.
"What about kissing" I proposed.
"That could be an exception" I leaned in and just as our lips touched they parted.
"Come on, Lover Boy. We have to wash those dishes" Nancy said yanking me away from Annabeth. I stumbled backward and got my balance.
"What was that for" I said glaring at her. She just shrugged and faced Annabeth.
"Abigail, right" Nancy said.
"Annabeth" she corrected. Nancy pressed her lips together then walked off like it didn't matter.
"Sorry about that. She's a little rude" I said.
"Whatever" Annabeth whispered walking off to her cabin before I could say anything else. I hoped she would stay angry at me forever.
"Percy" Chiron called from behind me.
"I'm going" I yelled back taking my time walking to the kitchen.
