No Way! Not Her!
Chapter 5
Percy's POV
Being in the same room with Nancy wasn't all that bad...NOT! Dude, I stood there washing most of the dishes while she nagged on and on about how she doesn't belong here. I mean, I couldn't agree more with that but she was starting to get on my nerves even more! I hate lava spray guns and lava all together but whenever Nancy would toss the dish into the lava bucket some would come out and gaze my skin. We had been here for over an hour and I had enough.
"Would you please shut up?!" I screamed throwing my own plate into the sink with a splash. Nancy stopped talking and looked up surprised.
"Look we didn't want to come here! We had to! This is the safest place demigods can live and train. The sooner you accept that the better it'll be" I explained.
Nancy looked down at the lava gun in her hands and stayed silent for a while.
"Sorry" she muttered "It's just I don't do well with change and I've only made one friend here so far and it's only because she thinks she can make me look better."
"You look fine" I reassured her then I noticed her cheeks blush and I turned away pretending not to notice. Why did I just say that? Classic Percy talking without thinking. It wasn't like I liked Nancy or anything it's just she looked different from how she did when we were younger. She reminded me of Rachel in a way even though Rachel was way nicer. "I-I mean, for a girl who has food stuck in her hair" I quickly said trying to sound mean again but Nancy had already accepted the compliment.
"Well seeing as you also have food stuck in your hair I guess you could say you look fine too" she concluded then went back to scrubbing dishes.
The next morning everyone was getting ready for Capture the Flag. I walked over to the arena to get some practice in before that afternoon when I saw that Annabeth and the Athena cabin had already started practicing. I walked over and tapped Annabeth on the shoulder.
"What" she demanded as she spun around to face me. "Oh, it's you Seaweed Brain" she said with a smile.
"Are you done being angry with me?" I asked with my best puppy dog face.
" I guess so" she smirked and then
"So y'all need some pointers on fighting from the master or is this all you got" I announced. Annabeth put her hands on her hips and the rest of the Athena cabin looked up ready for a challenge.
"If you want to get your butt kick then be my guest" she said smiling and walked to the middle of the floor.
"So who wants to go first" I asked.
"Oh, no it doesn't work like that" Annabeth said with her arms crossed.
"Then how does it work?"
"We battle with each other first until there are only two left. Winner gets no chores for a month."
"Ohhh...so the best is for the last and a wager! I like it." We paired off and started to battle each other. The winner would move on the next winner on their right until there was the last two.
Annabeth was paired with Arianna, a 14 year old from her cabin.
"That's not fair! Annabeth always wins" Arianna complained but grabbed her own sword and got ready to fight anyways. Even though Arianna was younger she was a fair sword fighter. Annabeth slashed and striked with her dragger but Arianna defended and blocked her strikes. Only thing was Annabeth was quicker the Arianna so the 14 year old was getting tired fast. After a while Annabeth kicked Arianna's sword out of her hands and won the fight.
My first partner was Malcolm who the same height and age as me. I've fought him before and he was decent as well. He made the first strike but I quickly deflected the attack. He made another jab at me this time towards my feet but I jumped up and as I came back down I swipped the hilt of my sword at his chest causing him the fall backwards. Once he was down I pointed the tip of my sword at his neck winning the fight.
After a few more battle it was down to both Annabeth and I.
"So class ready to learn a new lesson" I announced to everyone.
"Oh, don't get to cocky. You never win when you do that" Annabeth said.
"I did the same thing with the telkahines on Mt Helen's and I killed most of them" I pointed out.
"Then you explode the whole volcano." Annabeth laughed.
"I didn't mean to! It was an accident!"
"Remembered what else happened there at Mt. Helen's?" Annabeth asked walking toward me.
She reminded me of the first time we kissed. Annabeth had been scared that she was going to lose me on that quest so she kissed me before running away. Those memories made me feel like I was on cloud nine again. Here we were a year or so later together and who would of thought that possible? I felt like I was so lucky to her and I remembered how she made me feel after she kissed me. Annabeth was closer to me now inches away from my lips. I could see her eyes so clearly now and her lips and-
"Ah!" I hit the floor on my back and before I knew it Annabeth's dagger was at my throat. Everyone from the Athena cabin started to laugh.
"And that class is your first lesson" Annabeth said "Never let your enemies distract you."
Annabeth helped me up as everyone else headed to go get some water.
"That's what you get for being cocky" she teased.
"Oh I'm not that bad" I laughed defending myself.
"Sure" she smirked.
"What!"
"Nothing, I just thought of a plan to beat you at Capture the Flag tonight" she smiled.
"What can I say? Athena always has a plan"
The camp was divided into two teams. Athena had Hermes, Demeter, Dionysus, Nike, and Hebe. Poseidon had, Hephaestus, Ares, Apollo, Hades, and the Undetermined. Aphrodite and the other were on the bleachers cheering.
"Whoa! Go Nancy! Gray team!" Stacy was cheering. I looked over at Nancy who was picked to be on Annabeth's sid and that gave me an uneasy feeling. Why would Nancy be on Athena's side when Annabeth had a problem with her? I didn't have much time to think about it because I had to get my own team ready.
"Ok now here's the plan" I said to my crew.
"I want Ares to go on offence with me. Nico and three undetermined will go post guard as Hephaestus and Apollo will run the outer sides! Got it? Everyone needs to be on there A game tonight because Athena always has a plan and we need to be ready for it."
I lead the Areas cabin down the field with Apollo and Hephaestus guarding us. Just as I get to their side I notice Nancy was on guard by herself. Why would Annabeth do that, only had one guard on post?
" Hey!" Nancy said and tried to fight me. I caused her sword to fall and took the flag like a piece of cake. I was about to run with the flag back to base when I stopped. I didn't know why I stopped and the Ares cabin were looking at me confused. I didn't want to leave Nancy alone, it was her first time playing this game. But why would care about her? I just knew how it felt as a newbie guarding the flag and getting attacked and I didn't want Nancy to be scared. Maybe if I just ran back to tell her to hide somewhere until the game is over she wouldn't get hurt…
Percy...what are you doing?" Clarrise yelled.
"Here" I said then tossed the flag to her." Take it" The flag turned the color red and without any more questions Clarisse ran back to base. I ran back towards Nancy who was sitting on the floor fixing her helmet that had come off during our fight.
"Where's Annabeth?" I asked her.
"I don't know" she replied looking surprised "What are you doing here?"
"Look, you need to get up and-"
"Percy what is wrong with you!" Annabeth appeared out of nowhere her Yankees baseball cap in her hands. "You were supposed to take the flag and run back to base where we were going to trap you but you didn't! You gave it to Clarisse!"
"Where were you!?" I asked. But before she could reply something weird happened. The sky went dark and black clouds appeared over head. Then with a bright light Ares, the god of war, appeared in front of Annabeth and I.
"Where is it!" he boomed. I've seen and fought the god of War a few times to know that when he was pissed his sunglasses would look like they were melting from the heat in his eyes. Tonight Ares completely melted the entire frames off his face.
"Where is what?" I asked daring to say anything.
"Not you" said a second voice. Athena walked up as if she had been standing there the whole time. She was wearing a white t shirt with plain jeans and almost looked normal if it wasn't for the murderous look on her face and huge spear she was holding in her fist. For a second I thought she was going to run me through but she wasn't focused on me for once. "Her" she pointed behind me to Nancy who was still sitting on the ground.
" M-Me" Nancy stuttered looking bewildered at the scene in front of her.
"Yes! Not where is it?" Ares asked again his eyes brighter. He walked passed Annabeth and stood in front of Nancy. By this time Chiron and the other campers walked over to see what was going on.
"Where is what? I-I don't know what you're talking about-"
"My chariot!"
"Um, I don't know sir. I-"
"Of course you do!" Athena yelled "Aren't you Nike's daughter!"
"I'm sorry to interrupt my godss but could you please help us understand what is going on?" Chiron asked.
"Nike stole my chariot!" Ares yelled.
"I'll explain!" Athena said "Now Ares was unwise to be gambling his war chariot aginst Nike's so when he lost the wager naturally he became a sore loser."
"Then why are you here?" I asked out loud only to wish I hadn't. Athena glared at me with sure intensity I could feel myself wanting to hid behind the first big rock I could find.
"The goddess of Victory has always been jealous of me for taking the seat on Olympus she thought she deserved so she stole my shield along with Ares chariot"
"And we want it back" Ares yelled glaring at Nancy.
"Ok, I see but Nancy had nothing to do with it she was here at camp this whole time" Chiron said.
"That doesn't mean she won't know where to find it." Ares exclaimed "I will see to it that Ms. Bobofits will retrieve my chariot or I will blast her into oblivion"
"And my daughter will go as well to stand for Athena retrieving my shield" Annabeth's mom said nodding at her.
"You have a week! If you fail at this then you will be punished" Ares yelled then with a flash of light both of them were gone.
Chiron ordered a meeting that night at the rec room. Everyone sat down at the ping pong table whispering about what just happened. Nancy was sitting next to Stacy would looked like she was trying to help her feel better.
"Quiet" Chiron order and everyone fell silent.
"Now we cannot ignore this task from the gods which will require a quest. Nancy will go as well as Annabeth"
"Why do I have to go?" Nancy asked. Stacy was trying to fixing Nancy's hair but Nancy shooed her away.
"Because if you don't then Ares will kill you" I said.
"Was I talking to you, Percy" Nancy yelled back at me.
"Well if you wouldn't ask dumb questions then maybe I wouldn't have to answer" I said.
"Percy" Chiron warned.
"Nancy you must go to the attic" he said turning towards her.
"The what?" she asked.
"The attic" I said annoyed of her questions. Nancy only glared at me.
"Look would you just shut-" Slash. Before she could finish he sentence I sent a wave of water to splash her in the face from the cup of water next to me.
"What the" she yelled.
" Percy stop that" Chiron demanded this time with more force.
"That's what happen at the museum!" Nancy yelled.
"Duh!"
"And Ms. Dodds-"
"So you do admit she was real!"
"Well yeah! It's just that everyone else thought she wasn't so I just played along" Nancy explained.
"What and you let me take the fall like I was delusional. Why?"
"I-I don't know"
"That's so stupid-"
"You're stupid"
"And you nothing but a brat" I yelled.
"Percy Jackson" Chiron screamed. I looked up at him; my face hot. Nancy stood up and ran out of the room towards the stairs to the attic.
"Percy ,why do you have to be a jerk?" Stacy yelled at me.
"She deserved it"
"Ugh you're so ignorant" Stacy stomped her foot in frustration.
"What?" I asked. I didn't know why she cared so much about what I thought of Nancy.
"Percy," Stacy said "Nancy likes you"
