No Way! Not Her!
Percy's POV
Grover was the first to fall over laughing, literally rolling on the floor having a fit. I just stood there my checks red trying not to do the same. I found the idea that Nancy having a crush on me was a bit ridiculous. Naturally I said something smart like "Uuuhhhhh"
Chiron cleared his throat and completely ignored Grover on the floor." I will see that Nancy gets her prophecy and when Im gone everyone please compose yourself". He gave a hard look to Grover than me. Stacy stood up and started to follow Chiron out but turned back looking at me with disgust. "Percy, why can't you just grow up!" she yelled at me as if I was the one on the floor laughing, then stormed off.
"Oh, gods!" Grover said grabbing for his chair and standing up.I surprised a laugh myself then cleared my throat clutching my stomach and steadied my balance on my chair; all this attention was making me feel uneasy. I looked over at Annabeth, who had a stern face and pursed lips looking down trying to avoid the stares. I notice a few people laughing and looking at me the same way Stacy was. I took a few breaths then calmed my stomach down. I sat down and tried to look busy fiddling with my thumbs as everyone else whispered to each other about what just happened. Chiron came back into the room with Stacy and Nancy and everyone fell silent. I looked down avoiding any looks.
Oh, man, my head was spinning with confusing thoughts about everything that happened within the last few days. It was just plain weird seeing Nancy again after all these years and even weirder that she was at Camp. After I just had a break from everything wrong the past years dealing with Kronos; I just wanted to have some down time with Annabeth and Grover. Then Nancy comes along and it's like my world is turned upside down again. How could Nancy have a crush on me? I thought she hated me, I mean from how she's been acting and everything. Plus it's not like I liked her back in the way. Sure she looked a lot better then how she did back in the sixth grade but she had the same attitude. Besides I was with Annabeth. I just thought Nancy would of changed, grew up, and then maybe instead of being enemies…Wait stop right there Percy! No way you're thinking about being friends with Nancy. I shook my head trying to get rid of that thought.
"Nancy, tell us what the Oracle said" Chiron prompted.
Nancy remained sitting back in her chair holding Stacy's hand for comfort. Her eyes were red and her hair hung over her face. She took a shaky breath and looked at Stacy.
"Go on" Stacy ensured her.
Nancy cleared her throat.
"Five shall go search but only four will come back"
"Well that started off great" Clarisse mumble. Nancy looked around uneasy but kept going.
"You will struggle to find the liking you lack
Retrace the Sea's steps and go west as you look
Only the heartbroken may retrieve what was took"
Everyone started mumbling asking questions but Chiron hushed them down.
"Nancy, what else?"
Nancy's cheeks were bright and she looked like she wanted to throw up. Her eyes looked like she was panicking, struggling with the last two lines.
"At the task you desire but only to fail
The gold and silver together prevail"
"Very interesting" Chiron said sitting back in his wheelchair folding his fingers together. "We know now that five must go on this quest, Nancy and Annabeth make two so who will be the three others?"
No one said a thing. The Prophecy said "Five will go, four come back" No one wanted to be that one.
"I'll go...for Nancy" Stacy offered which was pretty brave for the daughter of Aphrodite. Nancy gave her a thankful smile.
"We have three" Chiron spoke.
Annabeth turned toward me for the first time at this meeting. Hey grey eyes seemed darker than normal.
"Percy, go with me" She said. "The prophecy said something about the "Sea's steps and going west. You'll be our best bet if we have to go on water at one point. Besides, I can't imagine going on a quest without you."
"Of course I'll go with you" I said. I wouldn't dream of leaving Annabeth on a quest by herself without me; especially one where one may not come back. I needed to go to make sure she's safe.
"Great that's four, one more" Chiron's words hung in the air. It didn't feel right to be asking someone on this quest. We might as well be asking "Who wants to die? Any volunteers?"
"The prophecy said to retrace the sea's steps by going west" Annabeth said "That kind of sounds like when Percy went on his first quest. We had to go west to the underworld to find what was stolen as well. Maybe the prophecy is saying we need to retrace the place's we went to as we were going west."
"That may be true Annabeth, it would make sense. Percy is the Sea gods son who did go west before on a quest" Chiron agreed.
"Then our last member should be Grover" I said "He was with us when we went."
Grover looked up and took a deep breath." For Annabeth and Percy" He nodded his head.
"The famous trio!" I laughed giving Grover a high five and hugged Annabeth. It was kind of bittersweet that the three of us were going on this quest together. They were my best friends and I didn't want to lose them but I also couldn't imagine going without them.
"It's settled then, we have are volunteers. Now get some rest! You'll leave in the morning" Chiron announced.
We walked back outside and immediately Annabeth hugged Grover and I.
"Thanks for coming with me guys"
" No problem...we can't go on a quest without each other...we never have" I said.
" Well...except that one summer when we had to go save Grover from marrying a Cyclops" Annabeth pointed out.
"Or that one time when you had to go save Annabeth from a titan army in San Francisco" Grover added.
" True...but in the end we were together" I said.
" So if were the famous Trio, and Annabeth's your girl...what am I?" Grover asked me.
" Dude...you and me are the Dynamic Duo...and me and Annabeth are...Partners in Crime...Duh!"
We all smirked and laughed and for a second it felt good to Annabeth not upset about what happened at the meeting.
" I'll catch you guys later" Grover said before running off the find Juniper.
" So..." Annabeth said.
" Yeah?"
" Um...that sure was a crazy meeting, huh?" Annabeth laughed nervously.
" yeah...I mean...that Prophecy" I said. Annabeth's smile dropped.
" What?" I asked.
"Is that all you can think of...the prophecy? I mean yes it's a scarry one but… Not the fact that miss. I-don't-like-it-here likes you! You have a girlfriend and if you ever think for one second that you'll leave me for her I'll rip-"
"Whoa! Whoa, wait a second Annabeth! I don't think that. You're the only one I'll ever love...I'll ever need or want" I reassured her.
" Percy, How am I suppose to know that!"
" Because you trust me" I said.
" True" She wrapped her arms around me and we held each other for a minute. "Well don't mess it up"
"Me? Mess something up?" I joked hoping to get her to smile or laugh again.
Annabeth just smirked and rolled her eyes "Oh, Seaweed Brain"
"Come on, I'll walk you to your cabin" I said and grabbed her hand
As I walked back to my cabin it was hard to convince myself I needed to get some sleep. After the rough day I just had I should have been tired but I had too much on my mind. I was really worried about that Nancy's quest. One won't be coming back from the quest and I didn't want anything to happen to Annabeth or Grover. The prophecy basically said I needed to lead this quest that wasn't even mine in the first place. Now Nancy admits she has a crush on me and everything is just too confusing with her. I hoped to be friend since we have to work together but that might be impossible. I was too focused thinking about the quest I didn't notice someone walking in front of me.
WHAM!
The next thing I knew I was on the floor holding my head and blinking my eyes.
"Watch where you're going!" someone yelled at me.
"What?" I moaned.
For a second I thought it was Clarisse ready to pick a fight with me which I wasn't in the mood for but then I sight came into focus. Stacy was on the floor across from me rubbing her head as well. Her light brown hair was covering her face and she moved it back and slide a pink headband in its place.
"Uh, sorry" I said standing back up.
"Whatever" she mumbled , not letting me help her to her feet.
"Are you ok?" I asked.
"Why are you talking me? I don't like jerks like you. It's because of you Nancy is scared of her prophecy" she spat out.
"What do I have to do with her Prophecy? Look I'm only going to help Annabeth and guide everyone west"
"Yeah and break Nancy's heart in the process" Stacy said.
"Whoa, I'm not breaking anyone's heart. I never liked Nancy to begin with so that's not even fair." I yelled.
"Sure" Stacy said "Yet heartbreak and hearts failure and someone not liking her is all over her prophecy because of you"
"Well everyone not liking her is not my fault. Prophecy's can have multiple meanings" I tried to sound sure of myself. Stacy just huffed and walked away to her cabin. She was just trying to make me feel horrible about Nancy's quest like it was my fault, I told myself. I wasn't the one who was gunna break her heart in order to find Ares' stupid chariot. Unless someone else on the quest is the heartbroken one. No way could I ever hurt Annabeth like that, I would never.
