The Mathew's House it's around 11:30pm Kaden is sitting on the couch with his mom after Riley has gone to bed
Kaden: wow she's been through hell since leaving us no wonder she started drinking
Jordan: yeah, but she's a survivor and a fighter. She will get through this with our help and support
Kaden finishes his drink and stands up
Kaden: I am gonna head up to bed are you coming?
Jordan: maybe in a while there's something I want to do for Riley first
Kaden: ok try and not stay up to late
He gives her a hug and kiss then heads upstairs to bed. Jordan goes over to the computer and begins her search for Rehab Centers in the Toronto Area
It's now around three in the morning when Riley unable to sleep stumbles down the stair to find Jordan sitting at the computer
Riley: hey what are you doing up?
Jordan: come here sweetheart, I want to share something with you
Riley goes over and pulls up a chair next to Jordan
Riley: what you got?
Jordan: you know that you have been like a daughter to me. I wanted to do something for you to help get your life back on track. I hope you don't mind and let me know what you think
Riley: Last Chance Rehab Center
She continues reading the website
Jordan: sound like a good idea?
Riley: it's for people who work in Law Enforcement sounds good to me can you print all the information on it for me
Jordan: sure
She turns on the printer and she starts to print the rehab information
Riley: when did my life spiral so out of control so fast?
Jordan: everything has been thrown at you all at once and it's hard to handle but you are handling it. By taking this first step in the right direction
Riley: I see this is an out patient program. That's good I'll have time to train for London. I would love for you and the girls to come for Kayla's birthday and to support me
Jordan: we would love to just give me the dates and we will be there
Riley: good I am to wired to sleep can we talk if that's ok?
Jordan: sure let me go and make us some coffee
She gets up and goes into the kitchen and puts the coffee maker on. Riley's phone vibrates and it's a text from Sam
Text Message:
Riley, baby I love you and I am always here for you no matter what. Please don't shout me out. One day down the line I want to get married and spend the rest of my life with you. I love you, Sam
Jordan: how do you want your coffee?
Riley is silently breaking down, when Jordan returns to the living room with two mugs in her hands
Riley: just black is fine
Jordan: oh honey what's the matter?
Riley shows Jordan her cell phone
Riley: what am I going to do?
Jordan: who's Sam? He seems to really love and care about you
Riley: a guy I knew in high school before Jinx came into the picture
Jordan: tell me about him what's he like?
Riley: oh where do I start
Jordan: try the beginning
Riley: well he's a couple of years older than me, like I said we knew each other in high school. He used to pick on me when we would hang out. I had no idea that he was in love with me the entire time. Until I moved back home about a month ago. He's caring, protective, strong and just what I want in a life long partner but I can't deal with a relationship right now. I need to get myself together before I can attempt to take that road with someone.
Jordan: honey it sounds like you love him and want to be with him
Riley: I do down to my core but I don't want to bring him down with me
Jordan: you need to tell him how you feel and I am sure he will be there waiting at the end of this journey for you with open arms
Riley: I hope your right now all I have to do is tell him. Do you know he followed me down here
Jordan: no I had no idea
Riley: yeah, oh I wanted you and the girls to come to Toronto the week before we leave for London so I can show you all where I grew up it's the 23rd of June through the 7th of July
Jordan: we'll be there now you have to take control and tell him how you feel and what you want right now. Try and get some sleep and I will see you in the morning
Riley: night and I will try thanks
Jordan goes upstairs to bed, while Riley grabs some paper and writes her eulogy for her mentor
It's around 10:30 am on Friday morning everyone is waking up at the Mathew's House. They are getting ready to head over to the funeral home
Riley: Kayla baby time to get up
She rolls over and opens one eye
Kayla: ok mommy
They get up and head to the bathroom to get cleaned up before getting dressed
Jordan: Keegan and Trinity time to get up and wear something comfortable
Keegan: don't we need to wear our fancy clothes?
Jordan: not today sweetheart, Monday
Trinity: ok
They both get up and head to the next open bathroom
Kaden: breakfast is on the counter
Jordan: thanks honey, go and get dressed we have a long day ahead of us
Kaden goes and gets dressed along with the others. Riley and Kayla grab some breakfast off the counter
An hour and a half later…
Everyone is ready and are headed to the funeral home
Jordan: Riley you don't have to drive
Riley: I need to do this I get car sick
Kayla: mommy are we going to see Sam today?
Riley: baby I don't know now please get in the truck
She climbs up into the truck in between Keegan and Trinity and into her car seat. The others get into the front seat and they all head over to the Winward Funeral Home
It's 12:15 pm when they pull up to the funeral home and there are people already waiting outside
Winward Funeral Home…
Riley pulls into the parking lot and they all get out of the truck. They head inside
Funeral Director: Mrs. Mathews everything is all set please let me know if there is anything I can do for you
Jordan: I will thank you
The funeral director walks away leaving them standing there
Kaden: Lt. Riley McNally I would like you to meet my girlfriend and fellow officer Heaven Wilkinson
Riley: hi it's nice to meet you
Heaven: you as well
Sam walks into the room and Kayla sees him. She runs over to him
Sam: baby where's your mommy?
Kayla: mommy Sam's here
Riley: I see that Jordan Mathews this is Officer Sam Swarek
Sam: so sorry for your loss
Jordan: thank you and it's nice to meet you. Do you want me take Kayla?
Riley: yes please
Jordan takes Kayla and she walks away leaving Sam and Riley alone
Sam: did you get my text?
Riley: I did and we need to talk let's go outside
They go outside and find a bench and they sit down
Outside…
Sam: please talk to me
Riley: I can't do this right now
She points between her and Sam
Sam: I don't understand what are you saying?
Riley starts to have trouble breathing
Riley: I am so sorry, I love you with all my heart but for right now I need a friend more than anything
Sam: I am here because Frank told me to tell you when I saw you again that you will not have a job when you get home unless you can pull it together. That means getting you life together no more drinking and lose the attitude or don't bother coming back
Riley: I can't breathe
Kaden comes out looking for Riley
Kaden: Riley are you alright?
He knees down in front of her and tries to help steady her breathing
Riley: I feel like I am gonna pass out
Kaden: hey look at me, take deep slow breaths
Riley does as she's told and he breathing slowly becomes normal again
Riley: thank you Kaden
Kaden: you are?
Sam: Officer Sam Swarek I work with Riley and you?
Kaden: Officer Kaden Mathews
Sam: very sorry for your loss
Kaden: thank you are you going to be ok?
Riley: yes thank you
Kaden: see you back inside
Riley: yeah
He goes back inside leaving them still sitting there. A car pulls into the parking lot and Oliver, Zoe and Izzy get out and walk over to them
Sam: Oliver what are you doing here?
Oliver: Frank gave me a few days off I am here to support my goddaughter
Riley: thank you for coming how did you hear about it?
Oliver: Frank told us everyone sends their love and hopes to see you both soon
Riley: let me take you inside and introduce you all to everyone
She goes to stand up and her legs give out
Oliver: you stay and I can find my way
Riley: Zoe can I talk to you please
Zoe: sure
Sam: we'll leave you ladies to it then
He takes Oliver and Izzy inside the funeral home
Zoe: what's going on with you?
Riley: I need you to take Kayla for a little while when we get back home
Zoe: alright now explain to me what is going on with you
Riley: I've been in a dark place for a while now. After what happened with Andy she told me that she hated me and wished I never came back. Along with other things I've been dealing with I began heavily drinking
Zoe: you've been distant I thought something may be up
Riley: I've put my job in jeopardy along with my relationships with my daughter and Sam. When we return home I am taking my life back. I am enrolling in a 30 day outpatient program called Last Chance. It's for people who are in Law Enforcement. It's a last chance to either get your life together or your out.
Zoe: that's great I am glad that you've made the decision to do this. What did you tell Sam?
Riley: nothing except that I can't be with him right now and I hope he understands why
Zoe: he's a great guy and I know he loves you very much, he would do anything for you. If you gave him a chance he'd stand by your side
Riley: that's it I can't right now please stop pushing. If you are not able to take Kayla I can ask her godmother but that would mean I will not see her for a month. It's your choice
Zoe: we'll take her
Another car pulls into the parking lot and Callie Lane gets out
Riley: please excuse me
She gets up and walks over to Mrs. Lane
Callie: Riley I am so sorry to hear about Captain Mathews
Riley: thank you for coming let's go inside
They walk inside leaving Zoe on the bench a little upset
Inside the Funeral Home…
Jordan is sitting in a chair with Kayla asleep on her lap, Sam and Oliver and Izzy are standing off to the side talking. Keegan and Trinity are sitting on one of the couches. Kaden and Haven are standing in the lobby when Riley walks in with Mrs. Lane
Kaden: Riley how are you doing?
Riley: holding up there's somewhere I would like you to go with me
Kaden: sure what do you have in mind?
Riley: I'll tell you a little later, this is Sergeant Lane's mother
Callie: I am very sorry for your loss
Kaden: thank you so much for coming
Mrs. Lane goes into the viewing room
Riley: actually it's something for you, your mom and Keegan too are you still game?
Kaden: absolutely are you going to tell me what it is?
Riley: nope do you trust me?
Kaden: with my life
Riley: that's all I need to know then please excuse me
She goes in search of Jordan to talk to her about her plan
Jordan: how did it go?
Riley: not exactly sure, I told him what I needed right now. I sure hope he understands
Jordan: I am sure he does if he's so in love with you as he says he is
Riley: there is something I wanted to talk to you and Keegan about. I've already spoken to Kaden and he's on board with it
Jordan: sure
She gets Keegan's attention and her daughter walks over and sits down next to Riley
Keegan: mom what's up?
Riley: actually it was me who wanted to talk to you
Keegan: ok what's up?
Riley takes out a sheet of paper from her back pocket and opens it up
Riley: I thought we all could do this in honor of my mentor, your husband and your father. What do you think now just remember it's forever
Jordan: oh my god this is amazing did you draw this?
Riley: yeah each tattoo will be different mine will say on the banner Hero, Mentor, Friend are you both up for it?
Keegan: oh mom can I?
Jordan: yeah I will give my permission and I think this is a wonderful way to honor the memory of Leroy. I am in
Riley: great I'll make arrangements for us
Keegan: does it hurt?
Riley: I don't think so
She unbuttons her shirt and moves it off to the side to reveal the recent tattoo above her heart
Keegan: that's beautiful when did you have that done?
Riley: shortly after going home along with this one
She turns around and lifts her shirt up revealing the Celtic braids on her lower back
Jordan: and you have the one on you left shoulder blade in honor of Jinx
Riley: yes
Keegan: those are cool I am so excited
Riley: I am taking lunch orders what do you guys want?
Keegan: where you going?
Riley: Pizza Palace over on West Belmont St.
Keegan: can I go with you?
Jordan: go on I will watch Kayla
They give Riley their orders and she goes to get the orders from the others for lunch
