Riley pulls up to the Last Chance Center and she goes inside the building
Melinda: may I help you?
Riley: I was wondering if you have any spots available?
Melinda: I am sorry but we just filled our last spot
Riley: do you have any other locations in Ontario?
Melinda: yes we have several at our Kingston location do you want to reserve a spot?
Riley: yes please
Melinda: can I have you name and number
Riley: Riley McNally 802-555-3918
Melinda: I will call them and let them know you are on the way
Riley: thank you
Melinda: have a nice day
Riley: thank you
She turns around and leaves the center and heads back home to pack
Riley's House on Lilac Lane…
Riley walks in, Jordan is upstairs packing for Kayla and Dylan is in the kitchen
Riley: I am home
Kayla: mommy your back
Riley: hey baby
Dylan: how did it go?
Riley: nothing available here but they did have spots available in Kingston
Dylan: I have a house there your more than welcome to use it as long as you need to
Riley: that would be good you sure?
Dylan: yes I am sure
Jordan comes downstairs with Kayla's bags
Jordan: when do you leave?
Riley: as soon as I pack but we need to talk with Frank though
Jordan: I can do that while you pack plus I can give him the restraining order and the other paperwork
Riley: alright can Dylan go with you to take care of that?
Jordan: sure we'll be back you need to talk to Kayla about what is going to happen
Riley: yes I do and my dad needs to know as well
Jordan: we'll be back soon
Riley: I will be here
Jordan and Dylan go over to 15 Division to see Frank while Riley packs for her trip
It's 3:45 pm when Dylan pulls into the division parking lot and they go inside to speak to Frank
Inside 15 Division…
Sam is sitting at the front desk when they walk in
Sam: Mrs. Mathews what brings you in today? Is Riley alright?
Jordan: Riley is fine and I need to speak with a Staff Sergeant Frank Best
Sam: sure let me go and find him
Sam heads back into the station's bull pen to locate Frank
Dylan: let me guess boyfriend?
Jordan: not exactly but she really just needs a friend right now
Dylan: I want her to get help and I am here for her in what ever way she needs
Sam returns with Frank
Frank: I am Staff Sergeant Frank Best please follow me Mrs. Mathews
Dylan: I am gonna wait here
Jordan: be right back
She follows Frank to his office
Frank's Office…
Frank: please have a seat now what can I do for you?
She sits down and he closes the his door behind him
Jordan: Lt. McNally would like permission to leave town for her rehab. The place here in Toronto is full
Frank: that's fine where is it?
Jordan: Kingston I also need you to give this to Officer Oliver Shaw
She hands him two copies of the restraining order
Frank: alright anything else?
Jordan: one more thing, this since I know that they are going to try and fight Riley for Custody of Kayla
She gives him the custody order
Frank: I would like to thank you for coming in and letting me know what is going on. When does she leave?
Jordan: in a couple of hours also this information about where she is going is not to leave this room. Riley wanted it that way
Frank: I understand I wish her the best of luck and hope she gets the help she needs
Jordan: I do to, have a nice evening
She gets up and leaves Frank's office and goes to meet back up with Dylan in the lobby
In the Lobby…
Sam: take care of her
Dylan: I have no idea what your implying
Sam: are you seeing her?
Dylan: not that its any of your business but no we are just friends
Jordan returns
Jordan: you ready?
Dylan: yeah
Jordan: goodbye Officer Swarek
Sam: have a nice evening
They leave the building and head back to Riley's house
Lilac Lane… It's around 5:30 pm
Riley has finished packing and her bags are by the front door and her dad is in the living room while she is trying to explain what is happening
Tommy: honey I don't understand
Riley: I know dad but I have to due this or I won't have a job and I loose my daughter for good
Jordan and Dylan walk through the front door
Jordan: Riley you ready to go?
Riley: Jordan come on in and meet my dad
She goes into the living room
Jordan: you must be Tommy I am Jordan Mathews it's so nice to meet you
Tommy: same here you take good care of my grandbaby
Jordan: I will I promise you
Dylan: we should probably get going it's getting late
Tommy: go and get better I love you honey
He gets up and gets off the couch and gives her and Kayla big hugs and leaves to go home
Emily: do I at least get to know where your going?
Jordan: it's better if you don't
Riley: sorry but take good care of my house while I am gone and please no wild parties
Emily: I will and I am not into parties
Kayla: we are going to see Keegan, Trinity and Kaden
Jordan: yes are you ready to go?
Kayla: yeah
Dylan takes all the bags out to the truck and he loads Riley's bike into the back while the others say goodbye to Emily
Emily: take care of yourself
Riley: thank you and I will bye
They all go and get into the truck and head over to the airport
Toronto International Airport…
Attendant: let me take those for you
He takes Jordan and Kayla's bags from Dylan while Riley says goodbye to Kayla
Riley: baby you be on your best behavior for Mrs. Jordan and do as she tells you too. I love you with all my heart and I will see you before you know it baby
Kayla: I love you too mommy
She wraps her little arms around her mother's neck and hold on for dear life
Riley: bye baby
Jordan: come on sweetheart we have a plane to catch
Kayla takes Jordan's hand, while Riley is fighting back tears. Dylan puts his arms around her to comfort her. Jordan and Kayla go inside the airport to catch their plane to Dallas
Dylan: do you want me to drive?
Riley: I think that would be best I am not gonna make it
He lets her go and she gets into the passenger side of the truck while he takes her keys and gets behind the wheel and they leave Toronto and head for the city of Kingston
15 Division Toronto…
Oliver has been called in to see Frank
Sam: how's Zoe doing?
Oliver: sit in a coma where's Riley?
Sam: she's gone she made bail why are you here man?
Oliver: Frank wanted to see me
Sam: did anyone find out what the argument was about?
Oliver: does it matter she crossed the line and there's no going back
Sam: let me know what Frank says
Oliver: yeah see you soon
He leaves Sam to go find Frank
In the Bull Pen…
Frank: Oliver just who I wanted to see take a walk with me
Oliver: Frank just stop what is going on?
Frank pulls out the restraining orders and the custody paper and he hands them to Oliver
Frank: very sorry how's Zoe doing?
Oliver: she's in a coma and what the hell is this? A restraining order. This is bullshit
Frank: I am so sorry go and take care of Zoe everything else is being taking care of
Oliver storms out of the building and he heads back to the hospital. Sam walks over to talk to Frank
Sam: what happened?
Frank: Riley filed a restraining order against him and Zoe and also it seems that Mrs. Mathews now has temporary custody of Kayla
Sam: that's not surprising
Frank: while everything is out of my hands now. The charges against Riley were dropped the D.A. said it was self defense and now it's up to her to get clean and stay clean. Shouldn't you be getting back to work
Sam: yeah
They go about their business
On the 401 Express headed toward Kingston, Ontario
Dylan: now why are you going into rehab?
Riley: I am an alcoholic it feels so strange to say it out loud
Dylan: why didn't you tell me before? Did this start before you came to see me?
Riley: I tried to say something earlier but when you said you wife was killed by a drunk driver I didn't have the courage to say anything and the other answer is no it did not
Dylan: we do have a lot to talk about don't we
Riley: that we do I am losing it when is this going to stop?
Dylan: this is the first step in the right direction
He reaches across the seat and takes her hand in his
Riley: does you house have a gym?
Dylan: yes
Riley: good because I am gonna need it, London is less than a month away
Dylan: your still going?
Riley: yes I am it's a passion of mine and Kayla's dad was my partner in crime. He got me into Kickboxing and I love it
Dylan: ok
Riley: thank you again for everything you are doing for me
Dylan: you are so welcome are you ok over there?
Riley: after everything that has happened today I could really use a drink
Dylan: no you don't you can go without it
Riley: do you think we could go to an AA meeting when we get there and where is Tyler during all of this?
Dylan: sure and he's with my parents who's Officer Swarek?
Riley: an old friend and we briefly dated
She stares out the window as they continue their trip to Kingston
It's around 8:30 pm when they arrive at their final destination
Riley: it's a small town exactly what I need right now
Dylan: there is a meeting going on at the town hall do you want to go?
Riley: yes please will you go with me?
Dylan: of course
He drives down Main St. and pulls into the parking lot at the town hall and they get out of the truck and go inside
Inside the Kingston Town Hall…
They walk into the building and there is a stage on the back wall and a small group of people sitting in chairs facing the stage with a podium and a microphone
Kelsey: please come in and sit down
Dylan and Riley take a couple of seats in the back of the room while the meeting gets underway
Kelsey: My name is Kelsey and I am an alcoholic no one is going to judge you here it is a safe place for you to share your story when you feel comfortable you can
Everyone: hi Kelsey
Another young lady gets up and introduces herself to the group
Lillian: my name is Lillian and I am an alcoholic
Everyone: hi Lillian
She goes back to her seat and this time Riley gets up and goes over to the podium
Riley: Hi everyone my name is Riley and I am an alcoholic
Everyone: hi Riley
She goes back to her seat next to Dylan
Dylan: I am so proud of you
Riley: thanks I am proud of myself too
He takes her hand in his and puts their entwined hands in his lap. The meeting continues and breaks up around 10 pm
Kelsey: Riley I have been expecting you we need to discuss the program at Last Chance do you have a few minutes?
Riley: absolutely Dylan I'll be right back
Dylan: I'll be here
Riley and Kelsey step out of ear shot to talk about the program
Kelsey: alright I have drawn up a schedule for your time here. You are required to attend group therapy, AA meetings and you have to see a psychiatrist do you agree to this?
Riley: yes
Kelsey: you need to sign and date this form basically agreeing to enter the program and complete all that is required of you and if you for any reason break this contract and not do as you agreed to you will be removed from the police force and out of the program
Riley: I completely understand where do I sign?
Kelsey hands her the paperwork Riley reads and signs on the dotted line
Kelsey: good choice and welcome to Kingston
Riley: thank you and have a nice evening
Kelsey: you as well
They go back to the others, a young woman walks over to Riley as she makes her way back over to Dylan
Alanna: hi I am Alanna Washington
Riley: Riley McNally I have an odd question for you
Alanna: no question is odd go ahead
Riley: part of the program is that I need a sponsor would you be interested in being mine?
Alanna: your really committed to this aren't you?
Riley: I am I have everything to loose
Alanna: sure we should discuss why you here and what your going to do to get and stay sober
Riley: alright why don't you come by the place I am staying tomorrow morning
Alanna: sure can I have the address?
Riley motions for Dylan to join her
Dylan: what's up?
Riley: Dylan Stevens please meet my new sponsor Alanna Washington
Alanna: nice to meet you
Dylan: same here
Riley: could you give Alanna your address
Dylan: sure it's 56 Meadowbrook Lane
Alanna: good have a nice evening and I will see you around 9
Riley: absolutely night
Dylan: ready to go?
Riley: yeah
Her cell phone rings and it's Jordan
On the Phone…
Jordan: hey just wanted to call and let you know we made it safe and sound
Riley: we did too and I went to my first AA meeting tonight. Is she asleep?
Jordan: that's wonderful and yeah she is. She crashed before we landed take care and will talk to you soon
Riley: I will give my baby a big hug and kiss for me and tell her mommy loves her
Jordan: I will bye
Riley: bye
They hang up and Riley's cheek is wet from crying
Dylan: lets go we have had a long day and it's getting late
Riley: yeah I want to see where I am going to be staying
They leave and head over to his house to unload the truck and get settled in
56 Meadowbrook Lane…
The house sits on 2 ½ acres of land with a gravel driveway. It's 2 stories with big bay windows facing the lake, with a set of picturesque mountains in the background
Riley: oh my god it's breathtaking
Dylan: my wife saw it and fell in love with it as well, I would live here all year long if I could it's so peaceful
They take their bags inside the house
Inside the House…
There are 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a large kitchen, big living room/family room and a laundry room. One of the walls is lined with a huge bookcase with all different kinds of books. There is a 55" flat screen TV on the opposite wall.
Riley: thank you again for doing all of this for me
Dylan drops their bags on the floor and he wraps his arms around her pulling her close to him
Dylan: please stop thanking me I am gonna end up with a huge ego
Riley: sorry
Dylan: ready for bed?
Riley: where am I sleeping?
Dylan: with me hopefully
Riley turns around and heads for the door when he steps in front of her stopping her cold in her tracks
Riley: please move
Dylan: I am sorry I was joking come on let's go to bed
He takes her hand while she grabs her bags and follows him upstairs to where she will be staying
Upstairs…
Dylan: here it is and it has it's own bathroom too, I will let you get settled in
Riley: thank you
She takes her bags and sets them down on the bed then she closes the door behind her. Dylan goes to his own room for the night.
It's 8:45 am on Thursday Morning…
Riley unable to sleep the night before went exploring the house ended up in the gym working out. She has fallen asleep on the futon in the living room. Dylan comes downstairs to find her there
Dylan: hey sleepy head
Riley: what time is it?
Dylan: almost 9
Riley: oh crap we have people coming over at 9 coffee please
Dylan: sure how did you sleep last night?
Riley: I found the gym and got a work out in so the answer is no I didn't sleep
Dylan: why don't you go and get cleaned up while I go and make breakfast
Riley: be right back
She gets up off the futon and stumbles to the bathroom. Dylan's phone goes off
On the Phone…
Dylan: hello
Alise: hey honey your father and I have to go out of town for the week so we are bringing Tyler to you
Dylan: sure when will you be here?
Alise: some where around noon is that alright?
Dylan: sure see you then
He hangs up and Riley comes out of the bathroom fully dressed and wide awake
Riley: everything alright?
Dylan: my parents have to go out of town for the week and they are bringing Tyler here is that alright?
Riley: that's fine it's your house
Dylan starts the coffee pot when there is a knock at the front door and he goes to answer it
Dylan: Ms. Washington and you are?
Jasmine: Dr. Jasmine Kendrick, Riley's new psychiatrist
Alanna: it's part of the program and she agreed to it
Dylan: sure please come in
The ladies walk into the kitchen
In the Kitchen…
Riley: who was at the door?
She turns around and almost drops her coffee cup
Dylan: easy tiger
Alanna: Riley this is Dr. Jasmine Kendrick she's going to be your new psychiatrist
Riley: nice to meet you would either of you like some coffee?
Alanna: black
Jasmine: black with milk
She pours two more cups of coffee and hands the ladies their mugs
Jasmine: shall we get started?
Riley: yes
Dylan: if you ladies would excuse me I'll leave you to it then
Riley: I want you to stay because I am not going to repeat myself
They all go into the living room and sit down. Dr. Kendrick takes out a tape recorder along with a pen and a pad of paper. Riley tells them her life story
Alanna: start from the beginning
Riley: alright here it goes, I was born in Toronto I am the oldest of 2. My mom had mental problems so she left us my dad, sister and I when we were younger. My dad shortly after that hit the bottle hard. I left home after I graduated high school, I had to get out of there. I guess I was running away from everything. I moved to Dallas Texas with my best friend Jackson "Jinx" is what everyone called him. We joined the police academy together. 3 years ago we had Kayla and 2 years ago he was killed in the line of duty. We were going to get married that summer.
She takes a sip of her coffee and wipes the tears that have fallen away before continuing with her story
Dylan: how you holding up?
Riley: I am doing ok, right before I came home another close friend and my partner on the force Dominique Lane was also killed in the line of duty, he died in my arms. I moved thinking I was going to reconnect with my family and get a fresh start well it all went to hell. It started out great I watched my little sister graduate from the police academy top of her class, I ended up in the hospital where I found out I had Cervical Cancer. Luckily they caught it before it was able to spread downside to it, I can no longer have children. As I was in the hospital my sister was being raped and almost killed by another Detective who ended up being a serial rapist. She won't talk to me and blames me for her being stuck in a wheelchair.
She gets up and goes to stand in front of the window, tears flowing freely as she attempts to pull herself together. Dylan gets up and goes over to comfort him and she struggles out of his embrace
Dylan: ok
Riley: I started drinking after that, I left my daughter with him and I never knew. How could I have been so stupid, I am a detective for god sake and I didn't even see it coming. My drink of choice was Vodka, I alienated my coworkers and my family. I am out of control and I need help. The final straw was that yesterday morning I put my god mother in the hospital, she is in a coma because of me. I don't know who I am anymore. I've only been in love once I suffer from anxiety attacks. I was told if I don't get my life together then I will not have a job but most importantly I will loose my daughter and I can't have that.
She goes into the bathroom and breaks down completely
Alanna: that is a lot to handle for one person to handle
Dylan: one more thing she recently lost her mentor he was also killed in the line of duty
Jasmine: there is something else, why is her godmother in the hospital and why does she thinks she's responsible for her being there
Dylan: I don't know she won't talk about it
Jasmine: ok I'll call her Staff Sergeant and see what I can find out. What she shared with us today stays with us. Unless she says it's ok
Alanna: that's fine
Dylan: ok by me do you have a business card?
Jasmine takes out her card and hands it to Dylan
Alanna: let her know she can come to me with anything and I will see her at AA on Saturday and I hope she decides to share some of her story
Dylan: this is a long road for her and I am hoping a this will help her heal and move on with her life
Jasmine and Alanna get up and they head for the front door. When his parents walk up with Tyler asleep in his mom's arms
Alise: Dylan everything alright?
Dylan: yeah catch you ladies later
Jasmine: have her call me
Dylan: I will thanks
They leave and Dylan's parents bring Tyler into the house and he closes the door
Inside the House…
Riley is still in the bathroom when they walk into the living room and sit down
Luke: son who's truck is that out in the driveway?
Dylan: a friend I am helping she's been through a lot
Alise: so your seeing someone new, can we meet her?
Dylan: we're taking things slow
Riley had cleaned herself up and walks back into the living room
Riley: where did they go?
Dylan: they had to leave but they will be in touch. Riley McNally I would like you to meet my parents Alise and Luke Stevens
Alise: nice to meet you dear
Luke: hello there
Riley: sorry I am a mess it's nice to meet you both as well
Alise: so Riley what do you do for work?
Riley: I am a Lieutenant with 15 Division in Toronto. But I took a leave of absence for personal reasons
Luke: while we should be going we don't want to be late
Alise: we will have to have dinner when we get back into town
Dylan: yes bye mom and dad
His parents put Dylan in his room and they leave
Riley: I am so sorry about my breakdown earlier
Dylan: it's ok how are you holding up otherwise?
Riley: I am ok, the main goal is to get my baby back and to finally get my fresh start I so deserve
Dylan: one day at a time
Riley: yes I am gonna go and lie down for a while
Dylan: sleep well
She goes upstairs while he goes to check on Dylan
