Hii folks! :)
So here's yet another chapter of Emerald Potter! Hope you are just as excited as I am :3
I've started school now, and I barely have time to write anymore, but I'll squeeze it in, I promise! :D
I STILL DO NOT OWN HARRY POTTER, JUST EMERALD AND HER SIBLINGS (EXCEPT HARRY) AND STUFF LIKE THAT :3
Chapter 13
It felt sooo great to be back I the routine again. When I woke up that first Saturday of the year it felt almost strange. We had no school and I had already done all of my homework. Damn, I should really start to plan things a bit more! I didn't want to have too much spare time. Spare time was boring. Time went by so slowly when you did nothing at all, and I couldn't handle that.
I had only one thing going on that weekend that made me really question myself. I was, surprisingly enough, trying out for the school choir. I had practised all summer and really hoped that I would be good enough to be taken in. I didn't even know if I wanted to be a part of a choir, I only knew that I had to do something that I enjoyed doing in my spare time other than my homework. The only people who had ever heard my sing was Remus and, even though I hadn't known it at the time, professor Snape. I had been sitting all alone in the common room, doing my homework when I began singing softly to myself, and he had come in to listen to me. Another thing that made trying out for the choir hard was that there was currently no other Slytherin's there. I really didn't know what to expect. At all.
Professor Snape had asked me to meet him at his office before try out, so this was my first destination. I knocked on the door weakly, stepping inside after he told me to.
"You wanted to see me, professor?" I asked just after closing the door behind me.
Professor Snape nodded his head. He was seated at his desk, looking over some papers. While I crossed the room, he decided to speak.
"Do you know what really, really annoys me, Miss Potter?"
I sat down in front of him, shaking my head at his question. I knew way too many things that annoyed him to even have a chance on getting it right.
"5th years who appear to be thicker than some of my 2nd years! Failed even the most simple questions!"
I immediately understood how he must be feeling. He had had so many students, but quite few of them had really been worth teaching. I knew that the Potions subject wasn't a very favourable one among the other students at the school, most thought the subject to be silly or unimportant. People preferred Charms or Defence against the dark arts, which I understood, but couldn't really say I agreed. I loved Potions very much.
Quietly I just sat there for several minutes, watching as professor Snape's quill and hand travelled across the many papers. He wrote in a beautiful motion, his long, pale fingers holding the quill so lightly. None of us were talking. For a while I began to believe that he had completely forgotten about me. Professor Snape did look quite lost in what he was doing.
"Professor?"
"Oh, yes! I heard that you are trying out for the choir this year?" Professor Snape didn't even look up from his papers.
"That is correct, sir." I confirmed, smiling to myself nervously.
"What song are you singing for the try out?"
"It's a muggle song, sir. I'm not sure if you're familiar with it..." I began uncertain.
"Try me." he shot at me, finally looking up, meeting my eyes for a short moment. He was challenging me, a smirk on his face. I couldn't help but to shake my head.
"The song is called Endless Love by Diana Ross and Lionel Richie"
"I'm familiar with it." Professor Snape paused. "-it's a good choice."
I smiled. Professor Snape's acceptance was always the most important thing to me. I lived for it. Most of my life was circled around it. It wasn't often that professor Snape wasn't right, which only made me trust his judgement more.
"Was there anything else, sir?"
All he did was to shake his head lightly and wave his hand in a dismissing motion. I took that as my sign to leave. I got up from the chair and walked quickly across the room again. I only stopped at the door because he had called my name.
"Yes, sir?"
"Good luck, Miss Potter."
"Thank you, sir."

I was pacing back and forth in the hallways outside the choir room. When I had arrived there, 10 minutes before the try outs began, I discovered that most of the others had also had the same idea of being early. The choir was offering five spots, six if totally necessary, and there was more than 20 people there to try out. Most of the choir members was currently Ravenclaw's. The choir had 15 members, 8 of them were Ravenclaw's, 5 of them were Hufflepuff's and 2 of them were Gryffindor's. I was terrified because of that. Could they refuse me a spot on the choir solely based on the fact that I was a Slytherin? Surely professor Flitwick wouldn't allow that to happen. But what if they gave me a spot solely based on my house? I liked the sound of neither. I couldn't really predict anything yet. They did place me as the last person to try out, though. I hated that. It meant that I would have to sing in front of the choir AND the people trying out. Twice as many people to make fun of me if I failed terribly.
"We are ready for you now, Miss Potter." Little professor Flitwick called out, smiling happily over at me.
With very shaky legs did I walk across the hallway towards the door. I could barely stand on my legs because of how wobbly they had gotten. I felt like throwing up, running away. Suddenly I really began wondering why I had even bothered signing up for the choir. Still, no, I WAS going to do it. I wanted to sing, I really did.
The choir members were whispering eagerly among themselves as I entered, some even giggling and pointing. I just simply looked to the floor, hiding my eyes by covering them with my hair. This only made the choir leader snicker. My first impression of her was that she loved it when she was the best one in every way. She just looked like the girl that would be like that.
"In the center please, Miss Potter."
Swiftly I walked over to the center of the room, swallowing nervously at the very sight of the audience.
"Name, year and house." The choir leader, a Ravenclaw girl, probably a sixth year, with light brown, straight hair and a very pointy nose asked bossily.
I cleared my throat.
"Emerald Potter, 3rd year, Slytherin." I answered, my voice shaking slightly.
Some of the other people who had met for auditions grinned evilly at me.
"Aha, and what will you be singing for us today?" The bossy girl continued.
"I-it's a muggle song..." I began, watching out for any bad reactions within the crowd. Luckily many of them seemed delighted by my choice. "It's called Endless Love by Diana Ross and Lionel Richie."
A couple of the choir members clapped happily. I smiled. I had indeed made the right song choice. The bossy girl gave me an angry, cold stare, scribbling something down quickly. She cleared her throat, sitting up in a straight line.
"Go on then."
She made it sound like she was challenging me, daring me to even try doing it. Maybe she was a fan of muggle songs? I took a couple of slow, deep breaths, trying to calm myself down. My body was shaking. Another couple of deep breaths. Okay, I was ready now. I just hoped and prayed that I wouldn't mess it up.
My love,
There's only you in my life
The only thing that's brigh
My first love,
You're every breath that I take
You're every step I make
And I
I want to share
All my love with you
No one else will do...
And your eyes
They tell me how much you care
Ooh yes, you will always be
My endless love
Two hearts,
Two hearts that beat as one
Our lives have just begun
Forever
I'll hold you close in my arms
I can't resist your charms
And love
I'll be a fool
For you,
I'm sure
You know I don't mind
'Cause you,
You mean the world to me
Oh
I've found in you
My endless love
I breathed out deeply, ending it there, feeling very satisfied with myself. Many of the choir members clapped enthusiastically. Some even looked at me in awe. Maybe they hadn't expected me to be able to sing?
The bossy girl cleared her throat once again, this time giving me a very approving smile. There was even a weak twinkling in her eyes.
"There is no doubt about it, Miss Potter. I haven't hears such a beautiful voice in a long, long time. We don't even have to discuss this! You're in!" The girl looked to professor Flitwick for approval, his smile giving me a great YES.
I jumped up and down in pure glee, grinning widely. If I had any childishness left in my body, all of it came to the surface at that moment. Seems like luck was really starting to go my way.
