False Life

The memories were still vague for Scully, but she knew who they were to her. Scott wouldn't be home for a couple more hours, so she asked Skinner to meet her for coffee. She didn't know what kind of surveillance the house was under, but she was sure that they had to be watching.

Scully sat in a Starbucks that she and Skinner had agreed to meet at. Her anger simmered as she thought of how long she had been living this fake life. She thought of Scott's hands on her body, of him inside of her, and she felt sick to her stomach. She wondered if she should run to the bathroom, but the nausea subsided. She shook her head to rid herself of the images. She felt violated and was not sure how she would face him again and pretend that everything was fine.

Skinner entered and looked around she waved to him and he came over moving quickly and sat across the table from her.

She found that this time as she saw him she had memories of him in the back of her mind. Images of him helping her in the past.

They looked at each other for a moment and Scully reached out and took his hand. She gave it a quick, somewhat awkward, squeeze to say thank you and he nods in return.

"So you remember?" He asked her.

"I'm starting to remember." She said and looked down at her hands.

"Things are about to get more complicated." Skinner started.

She cut him off, "Where are they?"

"William and Mulder? We think we know where they are. A nondescript town in Iowa."
"We?"

"Do you remember the Lone Gunmen?"

Scully closed her eyes. A dark room comes to mind and three odd looking men sitting at computers. She can not picture anything beyond this but she at least had a starting point.

"Vaguely."

"We are working together, have been since the three of you disappeared."

"What do I do now? I don't know if I can stand another night in that house."

Skinner glanced around and pulled a phone out of his pocket.

"Here is a new phone. It looks like yours, but yours is probably being monoitered. This one has a way for you to contact us, but it also has a special app on it."

He unlocked the phone and showed her the screen, "This app here will pinpoint bugs and cameras in your home."
"You really think I'm being watched that closely?"

"I'm sure you are. The Gunmen are working on making a video loop on the cameras but you need to find them and sync the phone up to them. Same app."
He opened it and showed her how to use it.

"Ok, so I look for the bugs and cameras and then what? Don't ask me to stay with that creep."

"Well, to start with I'm not going to let you go back unarmed." He handed her a shopping bag, she glanced in and moved some tissue paper out of the way to reveal a handgun.

Her eyes widened and she looked up at him, "What am I supposed to do with this?"

Skinner laughed, "You're one of the best shots I know, You will figure it out. You will need it for when you get him to tell us the place where they are being held and how to get in."

Scully raised an eyebrow, "You think he will do it?"

"With a gun to his head he won't have a choice. Plus I doubt he is much of a leader in the movement, probably more of a guard."

"A prison guard," Scully muttered feeling angry, "I might kill him."

"You won't. He has important information."

"Maybe I will after we get that information."

"You won't kill him. In any case, we need to get out of there as soon as you get the info. We can head straight there."

Scully felt hopeful for the first time in too long.

She spent the next couple hours disabling the spyware in the house. The Gunmen were apparently making sure that nothing seemed suspicious.
Scully packed a small bag of necessities and got ready to go. She spent her last half hour alone searching for memories.

She wanted to see her son. She pictured him in her mind, but nothing came to her. Tears filled her eyes and she wondered why she couldn't remember her son.

She felt like a terrible mother. Tears threatened to make their way down her face once again, but she resisted.

The door downstairs opened, "Hey Danes, I'm home," Scott called out sounding completely normal.

Scully stood from the bed, picked up her gun, and held it behind her back, "Welcome home. How was work?" She asked
Scott smiled at her, "Well, you seem to be in a good mood."

She tried not to pull away from him when he wrapped his arms around her waist. She took the gun and pressed it to his stomach, "Take me to Mulder. Now."

He didn't move for a second and then he began to slowly back away from her with his hands in the air.

"Dana, what are you talking about?" He asked looking perfectly innocent.

Scully ignored him, "Where is my son?"

"Oh honey, you are just confused. I know it has been a rough couple of months, just put the gun down."

"I was confused, now I see clearly. Well mostly, I still am missing quite a few memories. You better pray I recover them or else I will be even more pissed."

"Dana, you lost some memories due to the car crash, we are trying to get them back but it will take more time."

Scully moved the gun to his temple, "Dammit, you are lucky that I don't just pull this trigger after all that you've done to me! Now, stop pretending because it is not going to work."

He sighed, "Alright, Dana I get it, you've figured it out. Do you want a medal? I won't take you to them, so you are gaining nothing by doing this. We are being monitored right now and there are people on their way. Soon, you will be fast asleep and you will wake up with no memory of this."

"I know about the cameras and listening devices and those are taken care of. I'm not all alone in this world, you son of a bitch."

At this, his eyes widened slightly but he kept his face under control. At the sound of footsteps, he turned to look at Skinner entering the house, also armed.

"Take us to them and you get to live. I have for you a plane ticket to Belize, you can disappear," Skinner said this as he came upon them. He took Scully's place so that she could grab her things.

Scott seemed interested in Skinner's offer, "How much will you give me?"

Scully had turned to go and get her bag, but turned back at these words and moved for him quickly.

She grabbed him by the collar in a way that choked him slightly, "What the hell did you just say?"

He looked unfazed, "How much?"

She slammed him against the wall with a surprising amount of force for someone so small, "You get to live and escape. That's it. That is the deal. Take it or die."

"Please, you wouldn't kill me."

"Really? I've killed before. I don't like it, but I have. Not much would drive me to kill but you have Mulder and my son and I promise I would kill for them, in a moment. Not to mention how you have manipulated me, imprisoned me, and raped me for the past several months and God knows what else!"
The angrier she got, the tighter she pulled his collar and his face began to turn pink. Skinner took hold of her elbow and pulled her off of him.

"Scully, go get your stuff. He will take us there."

As Scully walked away she heard them arguing and then heard the unmistakable sound of a pistol whip.

An hour later, 'Scott' had finally given in. By the time he gave, he had a couple broken ribs (courtesy of Skinner) and a broken toe (courtesy of Scully). He had other bumps and bruises but for the most part was fine. Skinner was right, he was not a true believer in whatever cause he was apart of, he just wanted the money.

He gave them exact instructions as to where they would find Mulder and William. Skinner informed him that as soon as the information panned out 'Scott' would be allowed to leave the country.

The left him tied up to a chair yelling after them. Skinner had hired a 'fixer' guy to go and untie him and escort him to the airport once they knew that he had told the truth.

In all honesty, Scully had wanted to inflict more damage on the man, but she knew that there were more important things to do.

With that, they left the fake house and her fake life behind and went off to find Mulder and William.
