Hello everybody, it is I, Deathtroll, and I am back to bring you another chapter of 'The Legends', once again I'm trying find a fitting cover for the story without making use of "The Legend Never Dies" image and I apologise for not uploading regularly as I have been bogged down in actual schoolwork, pretending to do work and reading other people's fanfics and saying "wow, this makes me look like shit in comparison" On a side note, I want to state one thing: night classes are not a good idea by any stretch of the imagination.

Anyway without further ado, all the legal stuff that I am required to state *Inhales deeply*

I do not own SAO, which should be pretty obvious because if I did than the light novel would have been even more poorly written than it already is and I wouldn't be writing fanfictions. This is merely the non-profit work of a fan, please support the official release … even if it is a second-rate anime. *exhales*

"People would be wondering how I survived, it's quite simple really, mass application of common sense, mixed with a dash of luck, excessive planning and an ability to conserve momentum." - Ostrava

Dynamic entry

So as I previously mentioned a death game had just started, unfortunately, I was a part of it. This is bad for my long term health seeing as if I die in this game, I die in real-life. I racked my brain as I tried to figure out ways that I would be able to survive, I would probably need a large amount of intelligence, large amounts of patience, a strategic mind, the ability to lead and a dash of luck, unfortunately, I had precisely zero of these. So I had to rely on my favourite ability, praying to RNGesus for good luck, since that was the only method I would have to survive.

The sun was setting quickly, casting everything in a deep orange light as I avoided looking at the sun. Why am I standing here you ask, it's simple really, remember those wolves, well turns out that there are about ten of them around the town and I am currently evaluating if legging it into the town would be the best option or not. It was nearing night time which would limit my options since most games have a habit of buffing enemies, increasing their spawn rate or spawning more powerful enemies whenever night has fallen. The town that I was trying to get into was surrounded by a crappy wooden palisade there was a gate but there was also several holes that I think I would be able to get into.

This leads me to three main options:

1. A straight dash down to the nearest hole and hope that I'm able to fit in it, however chances are that I wouldn't be to pull this one off, seeing as I can't run that fast and while I am able to sprint, it wouldn't be for that long especially considering my heavy armour and weapons, in addition I am pretty sure that the wolves are faster than I am or ever will be. However, this is the fastest option out of all three of them and would allow me to get into the town before the sun fully sets, provided that the plan succeeds (not fuckin' likely) In addition, I only had about 75% health seeing as I don't want to down a health pot until I reach around 50%.

2. A cautious approach which involves me fighting my way through the enemy, until I am able to get in, this would be the most sensible option however I lack knowledge about the enemy and thus would be unable to accurately predict their movements and the range at which they aggro at, in addition a group or possibly even one of them would be able to get around me and abuse my blindsides like I was a boss in Dragon's Dogma or Dark Souls. Furthermore since night is coming I might be caught out and thus might have to face buffed enemies or more enemies meaning that I would be at a major disadvantage (and most likely lead to my demise, unknown, not glorious and on the first day, what a poor ending) The problem with my health also applies here, though if it is a one-on-one fight, I doubt I would need to heal due to low health (or defence stat) that these wolves have.

3. Backtracking and making my way to the Town of Beginnings, this is my least favourite option considering that it feels like I didn't gain anything and I hate having to repeat the words "Discretion is the better part of Valour" over and over to myself since it gets old really quickly and the problems with option 2 apply here as well

Of course, there is the problem of the fact that if I die in this game I get a hell of a lot more than a loss of EXP and gold, I lose my life. That trifling detail did help raise the stakes considerably, which meant that I would have to weigh up my options carefully if I was going to avoid becoming quite literally brain dead.

I could see some chancer wearing a blue tunic and black trousers wielding a longsword rush through the gate, slashing at any of the wolves that came too close. I followed after him, unfortunately he was going straight towards the gate while I was having to run at an angle to reach the gate so in other words, I was enacting the first option. I reckoned that I would have a 1/6 chance of succeeding at first, but with the current conditions it was probably about 1/3 chance.

Luck (or more accurately the RNG) appeared to be on my side the wolves had not noticed me quickly enough as I sprinted like my life depended upon it, which it probably did, I ran as fast as my legs could carry me, my spear and shield still slung over my back, as I closed the last few metres I felt my legs begin to weaken, I wasn't used to running, let alone sprinting, as that gate got closer and closer the conga line of wolves that the swordsman had following him had finally noticed me and saw me as a much easier target, seeing as I didn't have a weapon on my hands, I poured my last once of strength into my legs and barely sprinted past the gates, entering the [Safe Zone] were upon I saw the health that I had lost in the previous engagement regenerating.

Once I got into the gate I slowed down, see: almost fell flat on my face, and bent over, my hands on my legs as I tried to regain my breath, I could hear my heavy breath which annoyed me, I could also hear the swordsman sheathe his sword. I held up my right hand, indicating that I wanted to talk to him, I took a couple more breaths before getting back up and doing a bit of a stretch, imagining hearing my bones crack.

"Thank you." I said simply, making sure to use the long formal method of saying it, hoping my pronunciation came out clearly, which it seemed to as he clearly understood me, that or he had enough experience of dealing with people who can speak mangled Japanese to understand it, "What's your name?" I asked, this was still basic Japanese so I could easily saw it with little trouble.

Chancer: British Slang typically referring to someone who pushes their luck or engages in reckless behavior.

I'm terribly sorry about leaving this for a while and I'm even more sorry for not including any of your lovely OCs, also I kept true to my promise of using dice and I will also use it for when Will speaks any Japanese which isn't like the basics like hello, what's your name, thank you and all that stuff.

Anyway, I'll see you next time and until then, keep 'er lit.
