Chapter 13: Someday

I know that I just updated like…. Yesterday, but I'm a couple chapters ahead so I thought why not?

And I'm also really impatient.

And I really like this chapter!

"How in the hell did we wind up like this?

And why weren't we able

to see the signs that we missed?"

"Dawn?" The blunette looked out from her closet as her brother came into her room and shut the door behind him. She had just changed into her running clothes and tied on her sneakers, she was just about to go tie her hair up. He looked full of sorrow, of lost hope. His normally perfect hair was messy and his clothes wrinkled.

"What's wrong Drew?" She welcomed him when he threw himself in her arms, soaking her shoulder with his tears. Dawn gulped and rubbed his back, it was hard to see her brother so upset over something. He was the stronger one.

"I saw them Dawn, I saw dad. He…he..." Drew mumbled out but she could really understand what he said.

"It's okay Drew." She rubbed his back, her brother pushed her away. His eyes red and burning through her mind.

"No! It's not!" He bolted out her door and she followed after him, tearing after him in the hall. She stopped at the bottom of the stairs and her hands shook. She had to find her brother.

"Dawn found underwear in your car!" A shout came from her father's bedroom and she walked down. Drew was shouting at their father.

"Maybe she should have asked me about it instead of telling you about it!" Her father shouted back and she peeked in the doorway of the room. Their father was standing up from behind his wooden desk. Drew was standing on the other side. They were both upset and couldn't have looked more alike at the moment.

"She was scared!" Drew countered and she flinched, neither of them had seen her yet.

"Maybe that's why your worthless mother kept her! Because she's too scared to face a real problem!" Her father caught her eyes in the hallway as soon as she gasped as his words. She choked on her tears as they came.

"Dawn!" Her father called and she ran, throwing open the door to the garage and running out. She run, ignoring the shouts for her to stop behind her and ran into the woods a few houses down.

Branches whipped at her arms and tears stung her eyes but she couldn't stop, running as fast as she could through the unknown woods. Stretching her body farther, she thought about what her father said.

Her mother was so nice, she had done everything she could to assure that her daughter would have a comfortable life. She gave up being a coordinator when her twins were born. Her father leaving caused her mother to go back to work. She gave up her dream for her daughter.

…..

….

Dawn let out a sob, hugging her arms to her chest and shaking. The sun had gone down and she lost its warmth. Her legs were shaking from running for so long and one of her shoes was untied.

A squeal of tires scared her as headlights stopped inches from her eyes, too bright in the dark. She felt blind for a few moments as the engine roared in front of her. She had walked out into the road.

"Dawn?" A voice caught her attention and she almost started running again but stopped, seeing it was only Paul.

"Hey." He watched her for a moment then approached, "What are you doing way over here?"

She sobbed harder, curling into herself on the pavement in front of the truck. She felt hands pulling her up, taking her up off the ground. She smelled grease and oil for a few seconds as Paul set her inside his truck, buckling her in.

"I have to get you off the road." Was all he said and shut her door, going around the front to get in his side, the door creaking shut.

"Here, take this." He offered her the jacket on the seat and she took it, feeling her body shake as she draped it over her shoulders.

He pulled out into the lane and the roar of the truck filled the cab and she felt her tears lessen as he drove. Dawn could feel him watching her.

"Do you want me to take you home?" He asked and she bit her lip to keep from crying.

"No!" She said, almost screaming it out in the truck cab and pulled his dark blue and black jacket over her bare legs tighter. He didn't say anything but kept driving. The blunette looked out the window and saw that it was a part of town she had never been to before, the houses dark and shady.

After a few minutes, Paul pulled into a house a little outside of town with a fenced in yard. It looked old and sagging but he killed the engine in the driveway and took the keys into his hands. He got out and locked his door. The football player opened her door as she unbuckled.

"Come on, Reggie isn't home right now." Paul said and put his hands on her hips to help her down. Dawn pulled the jacket tighter around her as the wind hit her legs and reached for Paul's hand once he opened the door to the house.

He squeezed back and with a single light as a guide, led her towards the back of the house, opening a door and flipping on the light. She saw what seemed to his room. It only held a bed and desk, the floor bare and the curtains pulled over the window in the corner.

"Why are you way out here?" Paul asked and pulled her into his chest. She choked out a sob and let him hold her why she cried.

"My dad….he….yelled at me….and Drew.. He…" She mumbled up and he rubbed her hair with his hand, shushing her for a moment so she would take a deep breath.

"You ran all the way over here?" He asked and she nodded, "It's dangerous out here, you should've have come this way" He told her and she pulled him closer, letting him shelter her from her memories for a moment longer. She took a deep breath.

He was quiet the entire time until she finished telling him what happened, but he squeezed together the arms around her once she finished. He pushed her back a bit too he could look at her.

"You can stay here if you want. But I have to let Drew know you're okay, alright?" He said and she nodded, taking a seat on his bed and feeling it sway beneath her. The purple-haired male pulled the phone out of his pocket and she noticed that he was wearing a pair of stained overalls; he must have been at work.

She looked at the clock and saw that it was almost 10:00 at night, the stress coming back to her as she pulled her legs up on the bed after kicking off her sneakers.

"I found her." Paul said into the phone and unbuttoned his overalls so he could take them off. "on the road by my house."

Dawn heard muttering on the other line and laid back on Paul's bed, feeling her eyelids drop. She felt the stickiness of tear runs on her cheeks.

"Let her stay for the night, she's fine here." Paul said and she sat back up so she wouldn't fall asleep. Paul caught her eyes as he listened to her brother on his cell phone.

"You can come get her in the morning." Paul's tone wasn't one to argue with and he hung up after a moment. He pulled off his overalls and kicked them to the floor revealing a t-shirt and jeans underneath.

"Thank you Paul." Her voice cracked in the quiet air and he pulled open his closet.

"It's alright Blue. I understand." He said and then shut his closet door after pulling out a few articles of clothing.

"I have to take a shower, I'll be right back." He said and left the door to his room open and headed out into the hall. Dawn heard the water run after a moment and laid back onto his bed. The smell of him reaching her nose and covering her.

….

….

Dawn tossed over once again, she couldn't get comfortable. Her body so exhausted but sleep couldn't tame her racing mind. She huffed and lay defeated on the mattress. She heard a shuffle from the floor.

"Move over." Paul's voice was rough with sleep and she could only see the outline of his from in the darkness. She moved over the edge and pulled the blanket up to her chin.

The bed swayed with his weight and she felt herself being pulled towards the middle as the mattress dipped. She arched her back and tried to stay near the edge on her side.

"Paul?" She reached out and found his arm, his warm skin and hard muscles, pulling her towards him in the dark. She moved herself under his arm and her head moved as his deep chest breathed.

"Hmm?" His reply came and she felt the material of his soft t-shirt under her cheek.

"Do you think that someday we will date-….never mind." She mumbled and felt her cheeks go red. His body shifted beneath her as he moved onto his side, letting her head rest on his outstretched arm instead.

"Blue." His breath was on her cheeks and she felt heat rush through her body, making the blankets seem too warm.

"Someday soon pretty girl." His thumb brushed her cheek the same way it had after the homecoming dance and she leaned into the touch, hoping that he could feel her smile.

"Really?" She asked, failing to hide the excitement in her voice. He sighed.

"Go to sleep little Blue."

….

….

Dawn let her eyelids open, welcoming a new morning with a fresh start. She turned over, finding nothing both a smooth blanket but the dip in the mattress was still warm. She sat up quickly.

She had slept with Paul!

Well not really slept with him, actually slept next to him in the same bed. She blushed, hoping to hide under the blankets and into the warmth. The door to the bedroom opened and she heard footsteps. Dawn peeked out.

"Come on." Paul's voice was calm in the morning. He was dressed in shorts and one of his football shirts with his black tennis shoes he always wore on his feet. She pushed the blankets back.

"Bathroom is down the hall and on the left." He said without her asking, yet he smirked and she walked into the tiny bathroom and saw that her face was red and her eyes were bloodshot.

After using the bathroom and combing her hair with her fingers she smoothed out her t-shirt and shorts the best she could before leaving the tiny room and going back into the bedroom.

Paul had put on a sweatshirt and nodded towards her shoes. She sat on his bed as she slipped them on and he pulled his jacket from the desk chair and handed it to her to put on.

Dawn slipped it on, letting the sleeves slip past her fingers and feeling the warm fleece inside the canvas waterproof outside. Paul left the room and she followed him outside from the back of the house.

"Time me." He said and placed a stop-watch in her hand, jogging off towards a line in the lawn, he braced himself and she started the watch when he took off. She watched as he took the length of the lawn in long strides, his form graceful despite his large size.

He ran a few times until he panted with hands on his knees, she held out the stopwatch as he came closer.

"You're pretty fast." She commented and dug his phone out of the pocket of her jacket where she put it. He took his phone and turned it on to check the time.

"Thanks little Blue, but you're much faster." He smirked and ruffled her hair pulling her inside his side. She barely reached his shoulders.

"You're bigger." Dawn said and put her arms around his waist, feeling the waistband of his shorts with her fingertips.

"Your brother will be here soon." He said and they stood out in the lawn for a moment. His breathing calming from his sprints and he tugged on her hair with his fingers.

"Paul?" He looked down at her and she reached up on her tiptoes to peck his cheek. "Thank you."

"Blue." He spoke low and soft, and he leaned down, touching his lips to hers for a brief moment. She melted, and felt the blush stain her cheeks as soon as he pulled away.

"That's how it's done." He smirked and she pouted and heard an engine cut off on the other side of the house. Paul nodded towards the house and she walked by his side into the back door and he headed over and opened the front door.

"Dawn!" Her brother took her in his hug and lifted her up to his height. She threw her arms around his neck and touched her nose to his neck for a moment. He set her down.

"I'm so sorry, Blue." He watched her with concern but she gave him a smile.

"It's okay, it wasn't your fault." Dawn spoke and he ruffled her hair affectionately and looked to Paul.

"Hey, I can't thank you enough." Drew looked down, but Paul clapped him on the shoulder.

"It's alright, you can owe me one." Paul smirked and Drew met his look before looking to his sister.

"Are you ready?" Drew asked and stepped towards the door. Dawn unzipped Paul's jacket she was wearing.

"I'll be out in a minute." She said and Drew nodded, heading out the door and closing it behind him. Dawn took off the borrowed jacket and held it out to the tall male. He took it and set in across the back of the couch in the living room.

"Be careful." Paul spoke and she gave him a smile. He put his hand between her shoulder blades and guided her towards the door.

"I will Paul. I'll talk to you later." She said and felt his lips in her hair when he bent down to open the door and she smiled, walking out of the driveway and to her brother's car that sat waiting.

….

….

"Are you ready?" Drew asked, Dawn bit her lip in response. They were sitting in her brother's car in the garage. She hadn't move since they pulled in and Drew had shut off the engine and let it sit for a few minutes, idle in the garage.

"I know he didn't mean it Dawn, Dad was really pissed off." Drew explained and Dawn rubbed her eyes with her hands.

"That doesn't mean he had to say it." Dawn huffed. She was upset about what her father had said last night, and she wasn't about to forgive him.

"Just let him explain it? I'm not asking for you to forgive him if you're not ready too." Drew reasoned and Dawn nodded, she could at least let her father explain.

"Okay, but only if you come with me?" She spoke softly in the quiet car and Drew reached out to squeeze her hand.

"You know I'll always be with you when you need me." Drew promised and Dawn gave him a forced smile and got out of the car.

Her father was waiting for her as soon as she opened the garage door and stepped into the house. John didn't look like himself. He was usually well put together, the well-known and great businessman that he was. Her father looked tired with bags under his eyes and his hair sticking up in places.

"Dawn." He sighed in relief, like he was glad to see her unharmed. The father stepped towards her with his arms un-outstretched and prepared to welcome her back into his home.

Dawn felt guilt rush through her when she stepped back behind her brother. The look on her father's face was hurtful and she gulped so she wouldn't apologize for acting the way she did.

"I understand. I know that you are still upset with me." Her father reasoned and looked at her with the same emerald eyes that her brother had. He stepped towards the master bedroom where his office was located.

"Can we talk?" He said and Dawn nodded.

"Only if Drew can come." She asked and her father nodded. The blunette followed him with her brother at her side. Once they reached his office he sat in his chair, offering the twins the two chairs on the other side of the wide oak desk.

"First of all let me apologize. I didn't mean to say those things about you." Her father began as he leaned his elbows of his wooden desk after he closed his laptop shut. "You know I love you, you're my little girl."

"You said you were glad that Mom kept me." Dawn snapped and leaned back in her chair. Her attitude was something she always kept in check, she was never one to sass or back-talk to someone.

"I know what I said." Her father said and he ran a hand through his unkempt hair. "I'm still unhappy about how you handled the situation about the underwear you found in my car. Which for the record were Rose's."

Dawn wrinkled her nose at the thought but didn't say anything. She wasn't ready to forgive her father for the way he made her feel yesterday; an unwanted burden. Drew sighed next to her and hung his head down with his elbows on his knees in the chair next to her.

"Still, I know I must earn you're forgiveness for my actions. You're almost an adult and I will treat you as one." John spoke and Dawn swallowed, she felt the guilt rid her mind but she remained firm with her decision.

"I'm sorry Dad, but I can't forgive you right now." The blunette got up and walked out of her father's office. Drew caught up to her in the hallway.

"It's okay Dawn, Dad knows he's wrong." Her brother spoke and walked up the stairs to their rooms by her side, "I'm happy you handled it so well."

"I know Drew, I don't want to make things worse by screaming or shouting." Dawn said and she stopped in the hallway outside of her brother's room.

"Thanks for coming with me Drew." She said, and her brother welcomed her with his usual warm hug. She felt his support with his arms. He was her best friend.

….

….

Dawn laid in her bed, the night quiet and the sky clear. She looked out through the doors of the balcony at the stars and she watched as the moon rose and cast a silver glow on the floor of her bedroom.

She thought about the day; being with Paul this morning to talking with her father later on. Her brother had given her his promise of being by her side as long as she needed him. She smiled, he had been not only her twin, but her best friend for as long as she could remember and was glad that living together had not loosened their strong bond.

A new bond had formed with Paul. He was strong, supporting even in his quietest moments. He had found her at one of her weakest moments and offered an ear when she needed it most.

She hoped that their Someday came soon. Their someday that would bring them even closer.

….

….

I think Paul was OOC in this chapter, at least how I portray him.

Anyways, please let me know what you think! Good or bad.
