Chapter 16
Katniss nervously trudged down the aisle, her lace train dragging about three feet behind her with Snow's blond granddaughter holding it. She was terrified of her becoming fate and her hands shook in her white silken gloves.
But Snow was perfectly composed and poised as usual, his white suit immaculate as it glowed with the sun reflecting in the window and his beard trimmed to perfection.
The one thing however that was unusual about Snow today is that he was not wearing one of his repulsive smelling roses in his lapel. Instead he wore a much simpler flower. A three leafed white flower with maroon specks on the inside and yellow fringes protruding from the center. It hit Katniss what the flower was.
He was wearing a katniss flower!
She was touched by this but still figured it was merely a move to convince the public that he was in love with her. An act to confirm the legitimacy of their union.
Katniss smiled at Prim weakly as she stood to Katniss' right as her maid of honor and Celestia and Madge as her bridesmaids. They were both dressed in light pink pastel colored dresses and their hair was curled in ringlets held together stiffly by hair spray.
Snow's son Gus patted his shoulder as Snow took his place in front of the plump, short officiator of the wedding, who was clearing his throat as the wedding march ceased.
"Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to join the hands of Katniss Everdeen and Coriolanus Snow in the sacred union of marriage," Snow took her hand as the ceremony began and smiled at her.
"If anyone has reason why these two should not be joined, please speak now," he said.
Katniss desperately wanted to end this. Kill Snow, sedate him, run. Just anything to stop these budding feelings from taking flight. She wanted to poke out the blue eyes that bore into her soul.
"Do you, Coriolanus, take Katniss to be your wife from this day forward?" the officiator asked.
"Of course I do," Snow smiled but Katniss couldn't tell if it was a sly smile like the one he gave when he poisoned Caesar or a genuine one like when he saw his granddaughter.
"And do you, Katniss, take Coriolanus to be your husband from this day forward?"
Katniss looked at her sister who was at her right, giggling with Snow's granddaughter. Then she looked at her mother and Haymitch who were holding hands.
And finally, she looked at Snow. He was eagerly awaiting her response with a brow arched in anticipation.
"I do," Katniss added melodramatically as she cupped his hairy cheek with her hand. He smiled at her touch and the audience let out a collective 'awww'
"Then by the power vested in me; by the country of Panem, the state of the Capitol, and the sanctity of our government: I pronounce you Mr. and Mrs. Snow. You may kiss the bride," the plump man said jovially.
Katniss gulped as Snow leaned his face to hers and their lips touched, sealing her fate and changing his.
Hey guys. I am soooo sorry that I haven't updated in almost a year. I've had so many problems with school and family and life in general. But I'm back and better than ever. Hope you enjoyed. And in the next chapter, things will get saucy ;)
