Chapter 17

Katniss tapped her feet together as she desperately waited for the wedding reception to end.

Snow was no different as he rolled his eyes at the idle chit-chat of the Capitol civilians. He clearly was rather sickened with their lack of density. What morons he thought.

Snow slid Katniss a drink with a grin, his hands gnarled by age gripping the glass.

"You didn't poison it did you?" Katniss asked bluntly.

"No my dear. Trust is a crucial point in marriage," he reminded her, grinning.

"I wouldn't trust you with a ten foot pole," she snorted. And Snow honestly didn't blame her. He'd made himself to be a monster for so long that it was hard to see himself as anything but.

Katniss however made him feel like a man. Despite her mixed feelings toward him (and his as well), they somehow completed each other. His sickening smell thrusted her back into reality when she was having a nightmare and her in his arms thrust him into a dream. A dream where somehow he could be redeemed. And that she felt anything but hate for him.

"We should dance a bit. Have them see us together," he stood up and held his hand out.

"They'll be watching," Katniss uncharacteristically blushed.

"Hmm then give them something to watch. Besides, I've requested a song for us," as he said that, a sly tango swelled in the room. The violins swaying as Snow slid Katniss across the floor with surprising ease and strength for a man his age.

"Dear, you're stepping on my feet," Snow laughed, leading Katniss as they garnered more looks.

"Oh um, sorry," Katniss stepped off as Snow's hand wrapped around her waist. What has she gotten herself into? One moment she hated him, the next she was...falling for him?!

No, that couldn't be! He was nothing like Peeta or Gale. They were kind and good and had respect for life. But Snow..he was different. He was a cynic. A man of passion and taste. And ambition. He slew all in his way of power and respect. He'd mapped her body with perfect topography. She both hated and fed off of his passion. And passion was all she could feel tonight.

Three hours later, Katniss was laying on Snow's bed. It was a pristine white like everything else in his house.

"Cori, when we start decorating, we're going to need to add some color to this place," Katniss laughed.

"And I suppose you'd know much about color being from a coal district," Snow smirked.

"Asshole," Katniss playfully snipped.

"Yes we both have one Katniss. Mind stating anything else obvious?" Snow laughed, leaning in for a kiss.

(hey guys, hope this suffices for now. I've been mega busy with my senior year and graduation but now I have time to write. So expect more)
