Chapter 12: Finding the Culprit

-At Ken's house-

As the sun rises for the afternoon, all seemed quiet at Odaiba. Outside Ken's house, two suspicious-looking automobiles approached outside. It was Jazz and Bumblebee. Upon hearing what had happened earlier at the harbour, they decided to check on their human and critter gang.

"BEEP BEEP BEWW?" beeped Bumblebee.

"I dunno, man." replied Jazz. "I just hope things are okay with those newcomers."

"BEEP BEEP BREEP?"

"No way, man! We ain't gonna reveal ourselves. At least not yet. Those kids had enough excitement for one day."

Inside the house, an injured Fennekin was sleeping soundly as she was being treated by Cilan, who was spraying a hand-made Berry Potion to heal her wounds. Bonnie was there, sitting on a chair, swinging her legs to and fro as she worried for the poor Fennekin.

"Oh, hey, you okay there?" asked Cilan.

"Huh? Oh. Is Fennekin okay?" asked Bonnie.

"Well, she has broken a few bones, but it wasn't too serious. After spraying this, she will be just fine. My name is Cilan. And you are?"

"Bonnie" She smiled as she introduced herself. "Can I see Fennekin please?"

"Sure thing" replied Cilan. Bonnie ran to Fennekin, who was still taking a nap.

"Hang in there, Fennekin."

Meanwhile, Bonnie's big brother, Clemont, was in Ken's bedroom, telling Ash, Dawn, Iris, Davis and Ken about his arrival to Earth.

"So, you came from the Pokemon world by a mysterious black portal?" asked Ash.

"That's right. We never knew what it was, not even the Pokemon Professor Sycamore knew how it happened, from the looks of things." said Clemont. Davis was puzzled about the conversation.

"Gee, this really beats my head up." he said.

"Everything beats your head up, especially on Mondays." said DemiVeemon.

"D'OH, why don't you just keep mouth where it's at?" He covered DemiVeemon's mouth and wrestled with him.

"Davis, you're not helping." said Ken.

"That goes for you too, DemiVeemon." said Minomon.

"That had happened to us too." said Iris to Clemont.

"Axew!" agreed Axew.

"How strange could things get?" wondered Dawn.

"Piplup!" said Piplup.

"Then, you got separated from a girl Trainer, right?" asked Ash.

"Correct." answered Clemont. "Now I don't know what has happened. I hope she's fine."

Dawn stood up.

"Ash, can I see you for a bit?" she asked, followed by Piplup.

"Uh, okay." Ash stood up as well and followed Dawn, taking Pikachu with him.

"Pika?" Pikachu faced his Trainer, who also looked back and shrugged his shoulders.

At the corridor, the two Trainers began a discussion.

"Ash, I think we should help them out. You know, find the girl." said Dawn.

"Okay, but why the secrecy?" asked Ash.

"Pika?" So did Pikachu.

"Well, to start with, remember what the Autobots said about their civil war, and that they crashed here?"

"Yeah?"

"I'm beginning to think that these Decepticons are about to rise again."

"Huh?! You mean they…?!" he shouted, only to be silenced by Dawn, rather quickly.

"Hush!" She covered his mouth.

"Hey, is everything alright over there?!" called out Iris. Dawn popped in, nervously.

"*chuckles nervously* Yeah, uh, everything's fine. No need to worry."

She ran back and moved the group away outside the house.

"What was that for?" shouted Ash, after being released. The duo of Autobots then showed up from behind.

"Is there a problem, y'all?" asked Jazz.

"Look, I don't want Clemont and Bonnie to know any of this Decpeticon business. Not until we find out what happened to Serena. They've had enough drama for one day." said Dawn.

"That's exactly what I told Bee here." said Jazz

"BEEP BEEP BZZT!"

"Oh right. Sorry about that. *scratches his head*" said Ash.

"Pika" Pikachu shook his head.

"*sighs* Like Iris always says, what a kid."

"Piplup."

~Meanwhile~

In Ken's room, Iris, Davis, Ken and Clemont were still talking about this world. Clemont was stroking Minomon, who was enjoying the treatment. Minomon could only giggle in delight.

"So these Digimon are really bits of data formed into one living creature?" His curiousity mounted at the thought of the Digimon body system. "Well as I always say, the future is now thanks to science."

"Oh great. Another nerd." whispered Davis to DemiVeemon. The little critter snickered. But the whispering was barely heard by Ken, who showed Davis a little shake on the head.

"So, Clemont, what exactly happened when you fond Fennekin?"

As the conversation continued, Bonnie was cradling Fennekin in her arms as Cilan watched on, impressed by her caring nature for Pokemon.

"It was a real shocker." said Clemont. "For some reason, when we found her, there were these claw marks all over the place, and burned out remains of crates and stuff."

"Oh that. That was from a vicious bloodthirsty carnivore Digimon who attacked us just a few days ago!" said Davis.

"He's right! This giant lizard spat fireballs at us!" exclaimed Iris, slightly startling Clemont. "It was so terrifying!"

"Uh guys. I think we should Clemont some space." said Ken.

"That's okay. But then, there something odd from there." said Clemont. "When I looked at somewhere further on the floor, there were these giant footsteps, and it looked like they were made by something, well, not lizard-like."

"Whaddya mean?" asked DemiVeemon.

"I mean, lizards are supposed toed feet right? But the footprints I saw gad no toes. Just large oval-shaped prints. I took a short glimpse through my data glasses and it detected a weird anomaly of metal."

Ken thought to himself. ~A weird anomaly of metal? Hmmmm.~

-Back outside Ken's house-

Ash, Pikachu, Dawn, Piplup, Jazz and Bumblebee were still outside talking.

"What makes you think that this was a Decepticon act gone wrong?" asked Jazz.

"BEEP BEEP BEW?"

"When Piplup and I were checking out the place where they found Fennekin, I seem to recall seeing these small Energon-like crystals and a weird bright liquid on the floor, with a large set of bizarre-looking footprints." explained Dawn. "I wanted to pick it up, but the situation with Fennekin was more important."

"Piplup!"

"Ener-what?" asked Ash.

"Hello! Are you even paying attention? The life-source of the Transformers. After his return from the very first mission, I remember some dropping out of one of Star Saber's wounds. Only, now, the liquid I saw was purple and electrocuting." said Dawn.

"Hmmm… Sounds to me that we gotta investigate this case." said Jazz.

"Exactly what I had in mind." A voice came out from behind. Everyone looked to where it came from. It came from Ken, who was with Minomon. The worm Digimon jumped down and Digivolved to Wormmon.

"You see, Clemont also saw the footprints." said Wormmon.

"And judging by the crystals and liquid you saw, if this was Energon by any chance, then, Jazz, Bumblebee?"

"No! No way! I ain't gonna say it." said Jazz, shocked by the stunning hypothesis.

"BEEP BEW BEEP?!" Bumblebee beeped out the assumption, much to Jazz's discontent.

"Yes, Bee. Decepticons. I think I remember the same remains of a battle anywhere. It could've been a survivor of some sort, from the battle in orbit."

"Well…" continued Ken, "…all I know is that whatever's out there, it has Serena. We gotta do something about it. But we can't reveal the Transformers to Clemont or Bonnie. It's for their own safety."

Everyone agreed.

"Bee and I will check it out. Ken, wanna come with?" asked Jazz, transforming with Bee into their car forms.

"Of course." Ken nodded. Jazz opened the car door and Ken and Wormmon entered. The Autobots then drove off to the city. Ash and the rest headed back inside. He was suddenly stopped by a curious feeling inside of him. Pikachu stopped to look on, followed by Dawn.

"Pika-Pi?" asked Pikachu.

"Ash, is something wrong?" asked Dawn.

"Huh? Oh nothing. You go on ahead." Everyone did so. He then turned to the skyscrapers in the distance. He felt this worried feeling that somehow involves the girl's name. Serena.

~Serena…~ he wondered. ~Where have I heard that name before? It feels… familiar.~

His curiousity was shaken by the sudden stream of smoke gushing out of an exhaust pipe of a passing car. He coughed up badly.

"*coughs* Man, is every city in this world like this?" He walked back in to avoid further mishaps.

~At the same time~

Atop a skyscraper, Serena was still tied up on the antenna. However, this time, she was fast asleep, but it looked pretty uncomfortable sleeping while tied up to an antenna. Her captor, Starscream, was overlooking the city, hoping for a chance to face and eliminate his Autobot enemies.

"This is taking forever. So far, not a single sign of those miserable Autobots."

He then held the side of his stomach. It was shown to have a large cut wound. Dropping out of the wound were a bit of purple liquid and a few crystals.

"*groans* If it weren't for that annoying insect creature, I wouldn't be in this predicament. In fact, I wouldn't go through all that trouble to kidnap this little fleshling as a hostage and taken on the Autobots myself!"

As the liquid slowly became a puddle…

~Meanwhile~

-At Odaiba Harbour-

…another liquid puddle was being collected by Ken, who arrived at Odaiba Harbour, to examine the same remains mentioned by Clemont and Dawn earlier. He poured it in a vile and walked outside with Wormmon. Outside, Jazz and Bumblebee, in their car forms, were parked outside. Jazz transformed to robot mode.

"Jazz," asked Ken, "can you see what this stuff is?" He handed the vile to Jazz. After looking at the substance, his suspicions were confirmed.

"Yep. It's definitely Decepticon-formulated Energon." he said.

"BZZT BEEP?" asked Bumblebee, wondering whose Energon was it.

"Hmmm. Perhaps I'll send the stuff back to Teletraan 1 and have it scanned. Bee, could you take Ken and Wormmon back and tell the others. But remember to maintain a low profile while you're at it."

"BEEP!" Bumblebee transformed back to car mode and Ken sat in with Wormmon. The yellow speedster sped off. Jazz, before transforming, wondered to himself.

~So a 'Con managed to survive the battle, but no one would've survived the battle on the Ark. Where in blue blazes did this one come from?~ After transforming, he left the scene after hearing a number of police sirens coming.

~Thirty minutes later~

Everyone was inside Ken's house. At the dining table, they all gathered to hear about Ken's findings. Bonnie was sitting in the bedroom, while stroking Fennekin, who was sleeping peacefully. Clemont was sitting beside her, watching his tender-loving sister doing her stuff. Bumblebee was outside, with a little speaker attached to his radio, to hear the conversation without revealing himself.

"So, I found out that, according to Jazz, it was of their enemy." Everyone gasped.

"A Decepti…" Immediately, Cody forgot the word.

"Con." Dawn answered him.

"Oh, right. Thanks."

"So that means this evil robot has Serena?" said Yolei.

"Geez, for once, this cast's chilling to the bone." said Gatomon.

"To fight a robot as big as the Autobots would mean serious trouble." said Poromon.

Davis stood up with determination written on his face, fists clenched.

"Well, what are we standing around for?! I say we find this baddie and stop him!"

"I hate to break it to you, Davis," said Yolei,"but if we are to stop him, how do we know who to face?"

Davis sat back, embarrassed. "Yeah, I guess you're right." Yolei could only shake her head.

"Since the Autobots know, why don't we rely on them for now?" suggested Patamon.

"That's right, Patamon." said T.K. rubbing his head.

"Until the results from those clues we found are in, we'll be sure to catch our culprit." said Ken, with a determined voice.

~Meanwhile~

-In the Autobot base-

Star Saber was examining the Energon drops found by Jazz and Ken through Teletraan-1. The screen shows a long line with a "loading" feature. The scan had been going on for a minute and he was anxious to hear from the diagnosis. With the sequence at 90%, the Autobot leader was ready for the results.

"Alright," he said, "let's see who we're dealing with." As soon as the test was complete, the screen changed. Star Saber was astonished at what the results had presented him.

"It can't be…" With the shock look on his eyes, he walked away to alert the other Autobots. On the screen, we see a very dark and familiar face.

-Odaiba-

Atop the same skyscraper where Serena was being held, we see the owner of that face, Starscream. He was getting impatient up to the point that he scratched a ventilation tube off in anger. Serena was horrified by his ferocity.

"This is taking forever!" said Starscream. "If I don't find those Autobots coming to the rescue, aahhh, then dearly sorry, fleshling. *chuckles evily*"

Serena sat down to relieve herself from the shock.

"Gee, I really hope someone comes to rescue me… I wonder if… I'll ever make it out of this in one piece…"
