Chapter 9

"Yes, Kenna. I've been doing everything you asked me. I've been taking it easy, no caffeinated anything, Nikolai has been keeping an eagle's eye on me anyway." My midwife studied me with a critical eye. "I promise. I wouldn't do anything to risk this baby's health." She nodded.

"Well you only have a month to go, so you've done well so far." She stood up and left my room, not bothering to close the door behind her. She's learnt by now that Nikolai and Anna were going to come running in any second anyway.

"Elsa, how did it go?" Nikolai came through the door, closing it behind him.

"Where's Anna?" I ignored his question, more concerned about the whereabouts of my sister.

"She's out somewhere with Kristoff. How did it go?" He sat on the edge of the bed and waited for me to answer.

"It was the same as last time. Everything is fine and your eagle eye is as sharp as ever. Stop worrying." I pressed a quick kiss to his cheek and slid out of the bed.

"Where are you going?" Nikolai was in my way in seconds. I stopped my waddling.

"I'm starving, so I'm going down to the kitchen if that's okay." Nikolai shook his head and grabbed my shoulders, pushing me back into bed.

"No, the two of you are staying here and I will get anything you need." I flicked my hand and froze the floor beneath his feet. Nikolai's feet slipped out from under him and he fell to the ground with a thud.

"If you try to keep me in this bed for another month you're going for a slide down the stairs and back to the Isles." I got back out of bed and waddled my way past him and out to the stairs.
