A/N

Hey guys, we've reached the point where I've decided to develop Anna more into this fix so it will go for a couple of chapters. Speaking of which, assessment season has come so there may not be an upload on thursday, but Sunday should be fine. Enjoy

Chapter 22

"I have to say, you look a lot better with white hair." Anna remarked when Jack and I walked back into her room. I couldn't help myself, I just started laughing; of all the things she could have said, or not said, that was what her brain decided to spit out.

"Thank you?" Jack glanced at me, and for the first time I had to wonder if he even knew what he used to look like. Anna walked over and stopped short about five feet away before carefully stretching out an arm and poking Jack's shoulder.

"So you're real." She smiled awkwardly. Even Jack smiled at that one.

"Last time I checked." Just then Alyssa gurgled from her spot on Anna's bed and Jack's attention was completely diverted. He went over to see her and left me with my sister.

"You seem to be doing okay with this." I smiled, watching Jack with Alyssa. Anna glanced over and smiled too before returning to the conversation.

"I've had to take in a lot lately, it just isn't surprising me right now." She smiled at the thought and to be honest, I wasn't about to ask. "What took so long anyway? You said he was just out by the courtyard." I took a breath,

"He found his way to Tara's." Her mouth formed an 'O' of understanding and nodded, giving me a sympathetic smile. She seemed to understand the answers to any questions she may have held without needing to ask, and turned to watch Jackson with me in silence. He was lying down beside her on the bed and seemed to be talking to her, and she seemed to be responding. I watched their exchanges with fascination, she looked like she was just flailing about, but to him it was gestures and body language to add to what he must understand from their conversation. He flicked and spun images of frost into the air around them and laughed, mixing his deep laughter with her tinkling baby laughter and forming a symphony. Alyssa suddenly pushed herself up and clapped, watching her father expectantly. He gave her a smile you could only ever label as mischievous and clicked his fingers, sending a soft wall of snow pelting into Anna and I. Alyssa's clapping resumed and was joined by more of her sweet laughter. I started laughing with her and brushed some of the snow off.

"You think that's funny, huh?" I asked her, to which she responded by clapping more and laughing so hard she fell back onto the bed. Jack laughed and dropped a snowflake on her nose. I struck my foot softly to the ground and twisted it, forming a snow lasso around Jack's ankle that pulled him to the floor, which was now frozen solid, and sent him sliding to the other end of the room. Anna laughed, just barely managing to hold her own footing.

"Okay, we're even, stop." Jack laughed as he slipped over again before realising he could just float over it. Once he was in the air, he formed a cloud of snow over my head and dropped it on me with a force that brought me to the floor laughing. I opened my eyes to see Jack hovering over me, playfully flicking snowflakes onto my cheeks. We both turned at the musical chiming of Alyssa's laugh and seeing her, holding Anna's hands, standing up and toddling a few steps, rather steadily and confidently, across the ice. I saw Jack stiffen when a patch melted under her foot and she slipped down barely half an inch. She kept going, ice puddling at her feet every few steps. Eventually Anna let her little fingers slip away from hers and Alyssa kept going strong, across ice, on her own. Sure she has toddled a few steps here and there, crossed a small room or two, but ice? We've never put her on ice.

"Is she melting it?" Jack whispered, flinching each time a patch melted around her little feet.

"Unless you are, it's her." I whispered back, a smile spreading across my face as my daughter walked across my ice, apparently melting patches of it, to Jack and I. Jack lowered himself down beside me and sat down, letting me sit up beside him. Alyssa stopped short and laughed, clapping her hands together again before raising one and pointing to me. I suddenly felt a severing feeling in my chest and stifled a cry of pain, calling to my side. I felt wet; the ice coating the floor had melted into a puddle.

"Elsa!" I gasped as the feeling intensified. I felt like some stuck a pair of sheers in my chest and started snipping away at my bones and internal organs. I think I may have screamed, but I couldn't tell. I could barely move or think. And as sudden as the feeling came, it was gone, though it left me feeling like horses had just trampled me. I lay there on the floor gasping for air, trying to keep my face out of the water. "Elsa, are you okay?" Jack's hands found my shoulders, Anna's lap beneath my head.

"What happened?" I asked, barely above a whisper.

"It was Alyssa. I have a strong feeling that's a sample of what she did to Lady Pitchiner. Are you okay?" I wrapped my arms around his neck and buried my face in the shoulder of his jumper. Before I let myself collapse completely I let go and stood up. I clicked at the air and a small frost bunny hopped away through the air. I sighed in relief and tried the floor again. Putting all the energy I had left into re-freezing the puddle we were standing in. When the water solidified, I let myself relax more.

"I'm fine." He steadied my shoulders when I leaned into him.

"What was that about?" He asked, worry soaking his question. I took a seat on a small ice bench of Jack's making.

"Whatever she did, it felt like she was… cutting my magic out of me. She was cutting something important from me; I just thought maybe it was my magic. Either she just didn't have the chance to finish, or that's not what she took." Jack rested his chin on the top of my head, running a hand through my hair.

"I think you're right. Anna picked her up when she realised it was Alyssa. If it felt like she was cutting out your magic, then I think that's what she was doing." He paused for a moment, thinking. "Not on purpose, obviously." I leaned away and looked up at Jack.

"She could control it when we were with the Lady." Jack nodded,

"Yeah, she could, I can control my magic, but you remember when I first saw her; the flood of emotions made me loose control and almost created a blizzard in your room. She's only used it once, twice now, you can't expect her to know how to use it properly." I sank back into his shoulder and looked over at Anna holding my baby on the bed, calming her. I walked over and held my arms out. Alyssa patted my cheeks with her little hands and kissed my nose, her way of apologizing I took it.

"Well we're going to have to teach you how to control them, huh?" She clapped and kissed my nose again, cuddling into my chest. I felt a tear break free of my hold and slide down my cheek to freedom.

"You want to take her to the trolls, don't you?" Anna asked quietly from beside me. I looked over to her, after wiping the tear trail from my cheek, and nodded softly. She put a hand on my arm and pressed her lips into a hard line, thinking of how to say what she needed to say.

"You know what it was like, training with them. Just make sure you don't let her feel like that. Okay?" I leaned over and kissed her cheek.

"I would never." She smiled and stood up, sniffling away any threats of tears that might have been looming.

"Good. Now first thing I need to tell Kristoff what's going on, then we need to find Kai, organise the whole thing and have the crown transferred so you can protect my niece." She smiled, but I could see how terrified she was behind the façade. All I could hope is she wasn't so attentive in her analysis of my own.
