Chapter 12 surgery, confessions and information

Well that's enough of an author's notes on with chapter 12.
The Bus
Ian Quinn sat in the interrogation room and smiled when he saw one of the Shield agents enter and asked "Did that SHIELD agent who was shot die? If so that would really cheer me up?"
Jack sat down and said "She is still alive. Now we have Mike Peterson downstairs in that hyperbaric chamber we found him in. Once SHIELD figures how to get him out and remove whatever Centipede put in him. I'll let him have a chat with you, if you're still alive by then anyway."
Quinn's smile was gone from his face as he asked "What do you mean by that?"
Jack replied "Simple if you don't tell me everything you know about the Clairvoyant I will give you the worse beating of your entire life. Then I'll have the doctor on board get you all better and continue the beating once again. Which will only stop when you tell me what I want to know. So you better give me something when I come back into this room later on."
With that Jack stood up to leave and just as he was about to open the door he turned back to face Quinn and said "One more thing. If Melinda May dies. I'm going to kill you. In a very slowly and very painful way. Then I'm going to find everything you love, and I'm gonna kill that, too."
Jack then left the room as Quinn considered his options and headed down to the lab where Fitzsimmons were making a gas sedative to put into the hyperbaric chamber in order to keep Mile Peterson unconscious when they took him out of the chamber.
He looked over to Clint who was nearby and asked "Any word from Phil?"
Clint shook his head and said "Make sure Quinn knows if Melinda dies I'm using him for target practice before you beat him into a pulp."
Jack replied "Got it. Hopefully I've given the guy a good look into his future and he'll talk. Though between you and me, I am seriously considering letting Cobra kill Quinn. The guy already killed Kim Jong Un, why not let him kill off another evil bastard. He might be able to use that to get a better room for himself in Hell."
Clint didn't say a word as Ward came down the stairs and said "Director Fury wants to talk to you now."
Jack went to Phil's office, or at least what was for now his office and saw Fury was on the screen and said "Director Fury. We have Ian Quinn in custody. Melinda was wounded and Phil went with her as the medevac took her to the nearest SHIELD base."
Fury said "Good work capturing Quinn. Have him brought to the Fridge immediately. I want you to interrogate him there Jack. I'll make sure you're updated on Melinda as soon as any news is available."
Jack said "Got it. If I may ask sir. Why did you give up the Tesseract?"
Fury answered "It belongs out of our reach. Why do you have a different opinion?"
Jack honestly replied "We should have kept it. We need weapons to match people like Loki and the Chitauri. If another alien invasion is going to come. We need advanced technology to defend ourselves with. Tell honestly, if you could have found a way to keep it would you have?"
Fury nodded and said "After you interrogate Quinn. Have the plane come to HQ. I have something you might like to see first-hand."
Jack nodded and the call was ended as Jack sat down and looked at a picture on the desk of himself, Maria, Phil and Melinda taken over 13 years ago on New Year's Eve in Tokyo.
Jack then did something he hadn't done in years since the death of his son Josh. Jack prayed, he prayed that Melinda would live. If she didn't it, he knew it would destroy Phil.
SHIELD medical facility Paris France
Phil looked on as doctors operated on Melinda, he hadn't moved from his seat since the start of the operation an hour ago. Doctors had told him the bullet was lodged in Melinda's chest, near her heart.
The doctors who were trying to remove the bullet fragments before any of them got any closer to her heart had told Phil that she had at best a 50% chance of survival. 50-50 chance it was like a damn coin toss.
Phil looked on and hoped Melinda didn't die. He needed to thank her for saving his life and not for the first time. He needed to tell her what he should have told her a while ago.
He should have told her he still loved her.
He and Melinda had known each other for a long time. They got together 3 years after they first became friends. Even though they broke up after what happened in Bahrain. Phil still loved, he always had.
He even kept a photo of him and Melinda from a holiday they went onto to celebrate their first year as a couple to the Bahamas in his wallet. So he'd always have a reminder of the good times.
All Phil could do now was wait for the surgery to end and then he'd learn if Melinda would live or die.
London
A car stopped outside a manor and the driver opened the door for his boss as a man came out the manor and said "The others are waiting in the library."
As the new arrival entered the library, several men and women some in British military uniforms and others in suits turned to face him.
One of the British military officers said "We were beginning to worry. Some of us have travelled so far across the country to get here, and you are the last to arrive."
The new arrival said "I'm sorry for the delay general. The meeting with the Prime Minister ran longer than expected."
The general said "While we have been forced to wait. We've been learning of new information which raises some concerns."
A woman in a suit said "SHIELD has a project active called Project Insight. It is something that could interfere with our plans. Our benefactors informed of this new development only a half hour ago. This Project Insight could lead to millions dead worldwide in just a few hours. Now you're the minister of defence. What do you propose we do?"
The minister of defence answered "We move up our timetable. Have our people get ready. Once this starts. There is no going back. If anyone wants to walk away, now is the time."
No one moved and the minister said "Very well. We'll see this through to the end. In one week, we will begin the takeover. I already have a lot of the MP's ready to support me once I call for a vote of no confidence on the Prime Minster when we carry out phase one. Then I will declare martial law and have a council of those of you here in the military and the political side form a council to help me rule the country."
One person asked "What about the royal family?"
The minster replied "Once I declare martial law. I will go the Palace and ask the Queen to support it and offer to give her a seat on the council if need be."
With that the meeting ended and everyone went their separate ways.
The Bus
Jack entered the cage and said "Now that you've had time to think Quinn. Do you want to tell me what you know about the Clairvoyant? Or will I have to get it out of you through pain?"
Quinn scoffed and said "You won't torture me. You SHIELD people have rules and protocols against that kind of thing. You're nothing but a bag of hot air. All talk and no action."
Jack then rolled up his sleeves and said "Right now I don't care about protocols and rules. Your man shot one of my oldest friends. You also need to know something Quinn. Over a decade ago when I was a specialist in SHIELD, I became very good at interrogations and torture. I was known as the go-to guy. My job demanded it at the time."
Jack then took out a dagger and stabbed Quinn in the arm and twisted the blade as Quinn screamed in pain. Jack continued by saying "So I know where to put the slightest pressure to a wound like yours and make it feel much worse than it is. It's in your power to make this stop Quinn. Just tell me what I want to know."
When he didn't get an answer Jack said loudly "In a minute I'm going to get a sharper object. Starting talking now! Otherwise I when I come back I will start to remove your fingers. What do you know about Centipede and the Clairvoyant?!"
Quinn said with fear "I'll tell you everything. Just stop."
Jack merely said "Start talking."
Berlin Germany
A man in an armani suit with a cigarette in his hands looked out the window as the conference call was established and said "Is everything in place in Britain?"
The defence minister replied "Almost."
The man asked "What do you mean almost? You assured me and my people you could handle this?"
The defence minister replied "We are putting the final pieces in place. Once they are in place. We can begin. Do you know about Project Insight? We should deal with Fury and Pierce now. Not to mention The Shadow has reached out to Hydra for aid in his war against. He must be desperate to ask them for help?"
The man said "He doesn't need their help. He is testing them. If Hydra refuse to aid him he'll know their behind the attacks. If they help he'll know they aren't involved. That will only make him more suspicious as to who we are."
The man then said "Dr Litvack what is your progress with project Assimilation. Will it be ready before our friends in China jump the gun on us? It will also help turn public opinion against the Avengers. They were useful in helping stop the Chitauri in New York. Now they are a threat especially Tony Stark. Is the chip ready doctor?"
Dr Litvack replied "Finding the correct nerve to insert the chip is harder than I thought. Fortunately thanks to the miniature arc reactor we recovered from the ocean near Starks mansion. I now know where to look."
The man smiled and said "Let me know when you're ready. I'll tell our Chinese associates to wait a while longer."
Dr Litvack replied "Understood."
The man then ended the call and looked out over the skylight of Berlin and looked at the city below.
The man then thought to himself 'Red Skull weren't crazy. He was stupid like Hitler was. You don't fight America and Britain at the same time. You get them to fight each other, and destroy each other. Once they are out of the way. We have the Chinese destroy the Russian and then we take out all other major nations before dealing with China. After that, the world will be ready for our takeover. Once Hydra and SHIELD are dealt with as well. Nearly 200 years of planning has led to this moment. Destiny is on my side.'
SHIELD medical facility Paris France
Another hour passed and Phil remained where he was and didn't even look when he heard footsteps nearby. A familiar voice asked "How is she?"
Phil turned and saw Graham, Jack's father standing next to him. Phil answered "They've removed most of the bullet fragments. Once they remove the rest. It's over."
Graham said "Phil I know you still love her. I was told by the staff you haven't left Melinda's side. If you don't tell her how you feel I will. So what will it be?"
Phil replied "As soon the surgery is over and she wakes up. I'll tell her I still love her."
Graham smiled and said "Good to hear son."
Neither man said another word and watched as the surgeons did their job.
Unknown location
The Shadow sat in his office, looked at Carlo Mancini his mole in Cybertek Industries and said "Did SHIELD believe you were a simple bodyguard?"
Carlo nodded and The Shadow said "I want you to get in touch with them. Tell them you started to look into your company and uncovered info on Centipede as you wanted revenge for your dead team on the train. They'll never know you helped Cobra kill them."
Carlo asked "How was the meeting with Alexander Pierce?"
The Shadow replied "I made him think our unknown enemies have made us weaker than we are. What Pierce and Hydra do next will tell us for definite if their involved. If they aren't I'll have to have our tech experts look for connections on the net. They'll find something. If Hydra is involved, we inform Director Fury about their infiltration of SHIELD."
With that Carlo left and the Shadow got a message from one of his men questioning their guest. The message read, the good doctor is ready to talk.
The Shadow smiled, he was now going to get the answers he wanted for the last few months. How was Agent Phil Coulson brought back from the dead? If GH325 didn't do it. What did?
Washington DC
Agent Victoria Hand woke up as she heard loud music being played from her study. She recognized the song as Sundown by Gordon Lightfoot.
Once she had a robe on and a gun in her hands she entered the room and saw a man sitting in a chair next to the stereo. Victoria turned on the lights and saw the intruder was Carl Berlin and he his own pistol pointed at her.
Victoria angrily said "What are you doing in my house?"
Carl replied "Unload the gun and put it on the ground. Than sit your ass down."
Victoria quickly unloaded the gun and sat on a chair near Carl who said "Fury knows. That's why I'm here he is allowing me to do this. We found out that you issued a directive ordering a mandatory security upgrade of SHIELD HQ. You gave the blueprints to Ivan and his goons. You're the dirty rat."
Victoria said "You son of a bitch. Ivan and his men were sent in to SHIELD HQ by Shadow's lieutenants against The Shadows orders. All to make a point Carl. You're expendable to The Shadow. I'm not and if you lay one finger on-"
She was cut off as Carl shot her in the chest. He then said "You talk too much."
In shock Victoria said "You can't shoot me."
Carl merely asked "Why not? You're not one of the good guys and as of tonight, you're utterly useless to the bad guys?"
Victoria answered "I know the truth, Carl about that night, about what happened to your family. Do you want to know the truth?"
Carl honestly said "More than anything in the world. But if you know the truth Victoria. Someone else does too."
With that Carl stood up and opened fire several times killing Victoria.
He then called in his clean-up crew and left the house just as they showed up, once he got back in his car, Carl looked at his locket before he drove off into the night.
