Chapter 14 Bahrain and answers

Well that's enough of an author's notes on with chapter 14.
Unknown location
The Shadow looked at the buckets brought into his office by his men and saw the contents were the remains of the people he sent to Rio de Janeiro. He said "I'm going to Rio personally. Tell our men there to prepare for my arrival."
His men acknowledged the order and left as the Shadow again looked at the buckets and said to himself "If that is supposed to scare me. It failed."
A moment later The Shadow was no longer in his mansion in Asia, and was now in the city of Rio de Janeiro.
He then looked around saw everyone was out on the streets celebrating Carnival. This would allow him to get where he needed to go and get out without raising suspicion. First he had to meet up with his people in the city and go from there.
SHIELD medical facility Paris France
Neither Phil or Melinda said a word to each other after the kiss was broken and simply smiled at one another.
The silence was broken by Melinda who said "If we going to be together again Phil. We need to be perfectly honest with each other. I think it's time I told you the truth. About what happened in Bahrain all those years ago"
Phil said "You don't need to tell me what happened if you don't want to Melinda. I know whatever happened was hard to go through. If I can spare you from having to relive that nightmare I will."
Melinda said "I want to tell you what happened Phil. You need to know what happened if you're going to be with me again. Part of me think's I don't deserve you. Losing you is karma for what I done in Bahrain."
Phil held Melinda's hand and said "No matter what I will always love you Melinda."
Melinda then said "You might decide differently after I tell you what happened."
With that Melinda started to tell Phil what happened all those years ago in Bahrain.
Flashback Bahrain 16 years ago
Melinda entered the basement of the building where the gifted individual the SHIELD team was here to evaluate was held hostage along with most of the SHIELD team sent on this mission, Jack being among the hostages.
The followers of this gifted individual who had the ability to heal people of most injuries and illness from gun shots wounds to cancer.
Melinda herself suspected someone had these followers take the team hostage, maybe a relative of the gifted individual or someone very powerful who had their own plans for the gifted individual.
Melinda had convinced Phil she could fix this problem and she was determined to do just that.
She went into an empty room and heard raised voices in Arabic nearby getting closer and closer. Once the two men walked past. Melinda snuck up behind them and quickly killed them.
Melinda took a gun off the dead along with a dagger and moved on. Knowing from the last communication they got from the team there were at least a dozen armed people here in the building. That at least left ten of them left.
No doubt most of them would be guarding the hostages. So that left at least 3 or 4 more left doing patrols. The faster she took them out, the more time she had before any of them realised that a hostile was in the building.
Melinda hid the bodies in a closet and went into a nearby air vent. From there she could get the drop on the other patrols. Literally.
She soon found the first of these two patrols and was shocked when she saw that the two followers were young boys aged 13 and 12 each. The two were armed with assault rifles and prepared to use them.
She knew what she had to do. If the boys were merely knocked out, they could wakeup and alert the others. To save the hostages, these boys had to die.
Melinda held her dagger in her hand and jumped down behind the young men and slit the throat of one. Before the other could turn around. Melinda had her arms around his neck and in a swift motion. She snapped the boy's neck.
Melinda then moved on looking for the last patrol and after that she'd rescue the hostages.
Afterwards she would reflect on what she just done. Not until then. Pushing those feelings and thoughts to the back of her mind. Melinda moved on.
A few minutes later she found the last patrol and dispatched both of them swiftly and took some flash bangs one of the 2 women had on them.
Melinda headed to where she hearing loud voices in Arabic yelling and soon heard a familiar voice say in English "Let us go and you'll get to walk away with your lives. We don't negotiate." It was Jack.
She heard sounds of punches and coughing as a voice in English said "Tell me what I want to know or people start to die. Why did you come here American?"
Jack coughed up blood before he answered "Get stuffed."
Melinda was outside the room and quickly took a look with the aid of a shard off a mirror. There were 6 hostiles in the room. All armed and close together while the hostages were all in the centre of the room and Jack was restrained to a chair being beat up by one of the hostiles. Obviously the leader of these followers.
The apparent leader punched Jack in the stomach and said "You came here on behalf of your leaders to abduct our healer. We need him here. Not everyone has access to top medical experts and equipment like you do."
Melinda knew she had to act now before people started dying and threw in 2 flash bangs. Once they went off. Melinda went in and opened fire with the assault rifle killing all the hostiles in the room.
When it was done only then did she see one of the women she killed was pregnant.
Jack said "Melinda. Are you alright?"
Melinda answered truthfully "No."
End of flashback
Once was Melinda was finished telling Coulson about Bahrain she said "Now you know what happened."
Phil said "You did what you had to do to save the hostages I would have done the same thing in your place. If you could have done things differently I'm sure you would have."
Melinda nodded and Phil said "If we're being honest with each other. I need to tell you what I learned from the Shadow. Skye is an 084. The Shadow himself doesn't know what her powers are. I also learned more about how I was brought back. Fury done everything possible to bring me back. I died on the operating table. If my memories were messed with. What else was?"
Melinda answered "Let's find out together."
Phil nodded and said "Once your discharged we'll get Fury to tell us what he knows."
With that neither person said a word as they watched the TV.
The fridge SHIELD facility
Ian Quinn was brought out of the interrogation room by Maria and Jack. Jack said "You cooperated Quinn. So you're free to go."
As Quinn smiled and headed to a nearby plane which was to take him back to Malta, 2 men stepped out of the plane and didn't move a muscle.
Maria said "Ian Quinn. Meet agent John Garrett and Agent Antoine Triplett. Your people killed 3 of their team. So they have some questions they'd like to ask you."
Quinn angrily said "You assured me I'd be free to go."
Maria replied "You were free for a few seconds. But now you're back in SHIELD custody for three counts of second degree murder being brought in by Garrett. Not one count of second degree attempted murder we were holding you on. Have fun."
With that Maria and Jack headed to the bus where Clint and the team were waiting for them.
Jack said "Melinda is awake and ready for visitors. You all go to Paris and rest easy. Maria and I are going to talk to Justin Hammer. Apparently he's connected to Centipede."
Ward asked "Justin Hammer was involved with people and Project Centipede is only a part of the plan. Who are these guys?"
Maria honestly replied "Agent Ward that is something I don't know. Most likely the Clairvoyant is one of these people. Maybe the others are all his lieutenant's. Hopefully Justin Hammer will help us. If that doesn't work. Your old SO Garrett can make Quinn talk."
Maria then arranged for a plane to her and Jack to Seagate Prison where Hammer was being held.
London
The British military officers and people in suits sat at a desk watching a video screen which showed what was happening at that very moment outside the British military base on the Falkland Islands.
The people outside the base were merc's dressed in US military uniforms and has US military weaponry.
The man at the head of the table smoking a cigarette wearing an Armani suit said "Begin the attack Fryers."
Fryers replied "Acknowledged."
With that the men started to attack the British personnel guarding the base perimeter with their silenced weapons and with the element of surprise killed them all quickly.
The attack was being recorded by webcam by some of the merc's as they moved into the base and started to kill all of the personnel in the base. Some of them were killed in their own beds as they slept.
As the merc's infiltrated the command centre they began to encounter resistance which was quickly dealt with as at this point the merc's heavily outnumbered the remaining British military personnel. The merc's entered the main command room and the commanding officer of the base General Edward Davis said on the coms "Security get in here! Code 7 delta. We're under attack. Argh!"
As the merc's secured the room the general, the only member of the British army alive in the room now said angrily "We will hunt every single one of you bloody bastards down. Washington DC will be reduced to rubble for this betrayal. Do you think Britain won't strike back?"
Fryers aimed his pistol at the general as a webcam was recording and answered with a British accent "Don't worry general."
Fryers then shot General Davis dead point blank range and said "We're counting on Britain retaliating."
Fryers went on the coms to the other teams around the military base and said "This is King. We are go. Status update?"
The team in the armoury was who were setting explosives checked in "Knight is go."
The leader of the team setting explosives on the base's, planes and ground vehicles said "Rook is go."
The man in charge of the team who jammed communications said "Pawn says go."
The leader of the teams in charge of killing any British army stragglers said "Queen says go."
The leader of the team who were clearing out all the buildings checked in "Bishop is go."
One of the men in the command centre was uploading the footage of the attack on the internet said "Uploading. We're in. Downloading all the codes we need for phase 2. Should be done in a minute."
Fryers said "Good work."
He contacted his employers in London and said "Phase one was a complete success. I trust you are satisfied?"
The man in the Armani suit took a drag of his cigarette and said "Over a thousand British military personnel dead. By morning the British people will be crying out for blood. Everything is going according to plan…. And we're just getting started."
Once the codes the merc's needed were downloaded. They left the military base. A few minutes after they left. Several explosions ripped through the area.
Rio de Janeiro
The Shadow sat in the room as the leader of his Brazil operations said "We have people monitoring the mansion. No one has come in or out except for the rich father and daughter. Our friends in WikiLeaks got us Intel on this man. His name is Magnus Rasputin. He has several other ids and a man with his face is traced back in history by a few centuries. This man is very powerful. Are you sure you want to go in there alone?"
The Shadow replied "I am sure."
With that the Shadow left the building, got into a car and drove to the home of Magnus Rasputin.
Once he got there the Shadow knocked on the door and as the Butler answered it. Shadow knocked him out with a punch to the face.
Just as the Shadow entered the parlour room he took a step back at what he saw dead bodies all around the room sitting at tables, on couches. One was sitting at a piano.
Shadow instantly knew what this room was. It was a showroom for people who wanted a new body. A lot of criminals would certainly pay a lot for a whole new body to do their work in.
He then heard a voice ask "Like what you see?"
The Shadow turned around and saw a bald man in a suit with a smile on his face.
The Shadow said "I take it your Magnus Rasputin?"
Magnus nodded and said "I didn't expect a visit from the famous Shadow himself. I thought you were another lackey. Welcome to my home."
The Shadow took another look around and asked "So how much do you charge? Putting a criminal's soul into a brand new body? I know a lot of people who would love to do that."
Magnus said with a smile "Believe me. The average criminal cannot afford my rates. Tell me why do you wear that mask? If I take it off would you die?"
The Shadow replied "Try it and you die."
Magnus responded by extending his hands and the Shadow was no longer on the ground he was floating in mid-air. Magnus said while glaring at Shadow "Who do you think you're talking to. You may have a reputation for muscling around the criminal underworld. You're nothing to me."
Magnus dragged Shadow to him and said "I eat men like you for breakfast. You are just another plate of lasagne. I could kill you right now."
Suddenly Shadow was on the ground and Magnus said "But that would get your people after me. I don't need enemies. I'm finally comfortable in my life. So what do you want Shadow? A relative brought back? A new body? What is it?"
The Shadow answered "I need information."
Magnus curious asked "What kind of information?"
The Shadow replied "I want to know if you brought back SHIELD agent Phil Coulson and how you done it?"
Magnus answered "I brought that man back. SHIELD Director Nick Fury found me and asked me to bring back his friend. In return SHIELD was to provide me with 200 fresh dead bodies and erase all records of me from SHIELD's databases. It was a fair trade. Why do you want to know all this exactly?"
Shadow replied "My reasons are my own. Let's make a deal Magnus. I must be able to give you something that you want or need. Everyone even Necromancers like you need something."
Magnus smiled and said "Let's step into my office and discuss a deal."
Seagate Prison
Jack and Maria entered the prison and Maria said to the nearest guard "Get the warden here. We need to talk to him right now."
The guard called for the warden to head to the reception area immediately. Once he arrived the warden asked "Who are you people? FBI? CIA?"
Maria replied "We're with SHIELD. We need to speak to Justin Hammer right away. He has information we want."
The warden said "I'll have him moved to interview room 3. My guards will show you the way."
Jack and Maria didn't have to wait long. Shortly after they sat down Justin Hammer was brought into the room.
Hammer asked "Who are you people?"
Maria said "We're with SHIELD. Mr Hammer you have info we need. Tell us who are your compatriots involved with your attempts to take out Stark and work with the Clairvoyant?"
Hammer tensed up and said "If I tell you I'm a dead man. What's in it for me?"
Jack replied "We can have you moved to a more secure facility where these people won't be able to get to you. But in order to get that you need to tell what you know. Talk!"
Before Hammer could say a word Maria saw a laser appear on Hammer's chest and before she could say a word Justin Hammer was shot dead.
The sniper who was several miles away took out his phone and dialled his boss said "Hammer is dead. Your nephew's tip off helped."
The man in London smoked his cigarette as he watched Sky News and said "Good work. Of course my nephew tipped me off, he knows that there is no greater bond then family."
With that the man hung up.
Meanwhile Jack and Maria looked at Hammer's dead body and knew they were back at square one. Jack angrily said "God damn it!"
