Well that's enough of an author's notes on with chapter 17.
SHIELD HQ
Maria and Jack stood on the helicopter pad as a SHIELD chopper came in for a landing.
The pilot who was Garrett said over the radio "Maria, Jack. We have a package for you both. Did you guys order one disgraced billionaire?"
Jack smiled at the joke and said "Just what we wanted. We brought in a nice chair for our special guest. Help us bring him to it."
The helicopter landed on the pad and then Garrett and Triplett got their prisoner into the building.
Maria said "Quinn. I guarantee you will tell us everything you know by the end of the day."
Quinn didn't say a word as he was brought into a room practically empty except for a chair in the middle of the room and a console.
He was restrained to the chair as Maria started to explain the current situation to the prisoner. "The chair you are in right now will tell us when you're telling the truth and when you're lying. Every time you lie you'll receive a shock, the intensity of the shocks will get worse which each lie you tell. So Quinn shall we get started?"
Jack asked the first question "Quinn tell us about these people you're working with and what is their agenda?
Quinn was about to answer when he got a minor shock which made him jump slightly.
Once the shock ended he was about to talk again and got shocked worse than last time.
Not wanting to endure more shocks Quinn said "The people I work with have been around for a long time. Longer than SHIELD has existed. At least a century old. They have many names. I know them has The Organization. Their agenda is one day seizing power on a global scale. You can either join us in the new world or die in the old one."
Maria asked "Who's part of them Quinn. More billionaire bottom feeders like you?"
Quinn said "I never met these people in person. But I know this whatever they are planning is going to start soon. I'd suggest you and SHIELD get ready for war."
Jack asked "Why should SHIELD prepare for war Quinn what do you know exactly?"
Quinn didn't say a word as he was shocked several times and after the sixth shock in less than a minute he said "They have weapons in a warehouse my company owns in Berlin. The Organization also use the area as a training ground for their foot soldiers. The people trained there were involved in the attack that took place in the Falklands."
Maria said "These people want Britain and America to fight a war. Why what do they get out of it? Arms sales? Military contacts for companies they own?"
Maria got a message on the phone and showed it to Jack who said "Bring him in."
The doors opened and Quinn was shocked when Mike Peterson walked into the room.
Maria said "We got the camera eye out and gave Mr Peterson a cybernetic eye. He is quite eager to help us out by asking you some questions. So we'll leave you two alone and get dinner."
Mike smiled and just before Jack and Maria left the room Quinn said "Their leader has people in SHIELD who are loyal to him. They are sleeper agents who will strike when they get the message. The Clairvoyant is allied with them in a mutual partnership and he is an actual telepath. Deny they exist all you want but it's true."
Jack looked at the console and saw Quinn was telling the truth. Maria said "That won't save you Quinn."
With that Jack and Maria left as Quinn was assaulted by Mike Peterson.
The White House
US President Matthew Ellis sat in the cabinet room with his military advisors and Secretary of State Daniel Thompson. He was then told of what happened less than a half hour ago off the coast of Gibraltar.
President Ellis in shock said "The RAF just sank an Aircraft Carrier. Let's see what Prime Minister Miliband has to say about this."
The President got on the phone and called Number 10 Downing Street in London.
The Prime Minister answered the phone and said "President Ellis. I can only assume you're calling to ask about the attack near Gibraltar. I have MI6 looking into it and they will find out who was responsible. Know that I ordered no such attack. Let us investigate to learn the truth."
President Ellis asked "Mr Prime Minister tell me are you losing control of your armed forces?"
The Prime Minister said "I have control over the military. Do you want to explain if your troops are out of control? How else did they attack my troops in the Falklands and massacre them. Heck your former vice president was working with AIM and the fake Mandarin. What's to say others aren't working against you either?"
President Ellis said "My men are loyal to me. Their commander in chief. How do I know those men weren't British special forces dressed as US troops and done this massacre in the Falklands on your orders? It's no secret Prime Minister that you're critical of my administration. Blaming us and SHIELD for what happened to London a while ago when the Dark Elves attacked."
Prime Minister Ed Miliband said "Why shouldn't I blame you? SHIELD was warned about the Dark Elves and did nothing about it. The attack on the Falklands base wasn't done by my troops. You had your men do it and if your men attack again. We'll respond in kind."
Prime Minister Miliband hung up on President Ellis who looked at his military advisors and asked "What are our options?"
General Ross answered "Retaliate by bombing the RAF base in Gibraltar with bombers from our force base in Germany or Send in the Iron Patriot to do the damage. Not much aside from that and if we do nothing, we'll inviting others to attack us thinking we won't strike back."
President Ellis thought it over and finally said "Have our bombers wipe the base in Gibraltar out."
Secretary of State Daniel Thompson said "Sir, we are now at a de facto state of war with Britain."
The President didn't say a word after that and hoped that after the bombing of the RAF base in Gibraltar, the situation doesn't escalate any further.
SHIELD HQ
Mike Peterson stepped out of the room with bloody hands as Maria gave the man a towel and said "Quinn told the truth for once. I hope you made him suffer for what he did to you Mr Peterson."
Mike nodded and Jack said "Want to help find the Clairvoyant and make him suffer as well?"
Mike replied "Of course. How can I help?"
Maria said "Jack and I are going to go to Berlin and we need back up. Want to tag along?"
Mike said "When do we leave?"
Before Jack could answer his mobile phone rang and Jack saw the caller was Director Fury.
Jack answered the call and Fury immediately said "Jack. Your father has been shot here in DC. I'm with him now and we're at a medical facility in the city. Sending you the coordinates now."
Jack got the text message and told Maria what happened who said "Go be with your father Jack. I'll have Garrett and Triplett go with me and Mr Peterson to Berlin. I'll let you know what we find."
Jack nodded and left HQ heading to the medical facility quickly, he knew if his dad survived. Whoever tried to kill him would try again, if this person wanted Jack's father dead, the killer would have to through him first.
Laboratory Arizona
Carl Berlin watched as his top scientist ran a sample of his blood against SHIELD's records. He knew it was a long shot but if his wife was with SHIELD or in hiding in a SHIELD safe house somewhere he'd now find his wife and hopefully his daughter as well.
His Scientist said "I got a match. Sir see it for yourself."
The scientist handed Carl a printed out copy of the results and he dropped it in shock. His daughter was alive and well. The Shadow had been using him all along.
He had the records searched for the whereabouts of his daughter and saw she was in Paris France. His daughter Rebecca now went by a new name, Skye.
He took out his phone and called his bodyguard Laura, he simply said "Have my jet fuelled. I'm going to Paris."
London England
The man with a cigarette in his hands looked at Dr Litvack who said with a smile on his face "Project Assimilation is ready. All we have to do is get someone close to Stark and inject him with this needle of nanites. Once they're in him. We will quite literally control him. Also the suits are finished. The squadron is ready to strike China on your order. We've had the suits given Russian ID's. The world will think that Ivan Vanko gave Russia the designs of the arc reactor before he went after Stark and with the late Justin Hammer getting us the specs of War Machines suit before he was arrested, helped us a lot."
The man smiled and said "Good work Dr Litvack. Soon Tony Stark will be working for us. Like a puppet."
Both men laughed at the thought and the man contacted his man inside the US leadership. The man said "General Ross. Is everything going according to plan?"
The general said "Yes once America and Britain go to war. You'll get what you want."
The man simply said "Good." And hung up.
Then just as the man put out his cigarette he got a call on his mobile phone and answered it.
The caller said "Our archaeologists have found what we were looking for. It's in a Mayan Temple."
The man said "Bring it to me immediately and called the men at the Guest House. I want our guest woken up to be questioned as soon as it is in my hands."
The man then ended the call and got himself a glass of Scotch and gave a toast to those who found what he was looking for in the Mayan temple and the alien who told him and his organization all about it.
Washington DC medical facility
Jack parked his car outside the building and ran inside. The guards showed him to a room under heavy guard.
Jack stepped inside and saw his dad in a hospital bed on a ventilator and Fury was sitting next to the bed.
Jack asked "What happened to him?"
Fury said "He asked me to meet him. Told me something big concerning SHIELD?"
Fury took out a device from his coat and activated it. Jack knew the device was a scrambler a device which made a room silent to all those who could be listening in to a conversation.
Fury said "He told me that SHIELD is compromised by Hydra."
Jack in shock said "Hydra? They died with Red Skull. How could they still be around and infiltrate us?"
Fury said "I don't know. But the flash drive he gave me revealed Hydra plan to use Project Insight to take over. Good thing I gave you and Maria each part of the command codes to the helicarrier's so that plan hit a complication. No doubt they'll target you, me and Maria to get the command codes"
Jack looked at his dad and asked "How is he?"
Fury replied "The bullets pierced his lung. He is stable for now and will make a full recovery if his condition remains stable."
Jack said "Let's look at that flash drive and see who we can trust in SHIELD."
Fury put the flash drive into his tablet and displayed the list of SHIELD agents loyal to SHIELD. Jack saw that of the SHIELD World Security Council members, only Alexander Pierce's name wasn't on the list.
Jack said "We can end this by killing Pierce. Cut off both heads at the same time and a Hydra beast dies. The other head comes off when we use this list to erase all those who are traitors in one fell swoop. Hydra won't have a leg to stand on once that happens."
Fury nodded in agreement and said "We'll need help, and I know just who to get to help."
Jack asked to confirm who Fury would get to help "The rest of the Avengers?"
Fury said "Of course. You get back to HQ and get the ball rolling by meeting with the Cap and Romanoff. Tell them what we know. I'll let Coulson know what's going on."
Jack nodded and held his dads hand for a moment before he left the medical facility and went back to SHIELD HQ.
Jack sent Maria a text message informing her of the current situation as he got into his car.
London Number 10 Downing Street
Prime Minister Ed Miliband sat in the briefing room as his military advisors informed him of the American air strike that just occurred on the RAF base at Gibraltar less than 5 minutes ago.
The Prime Minister in shock at the news asked "President Ellis had Gibraltar Airport, the site of our RAF base bombed? Has he lost his mind?"
The defence minister said "We should retaliate against America for this. Have our naval ships destroy one of their air force bases. If they escalate this further afterwards we might have to go with the nuclear option."
Barry Kzur the head of the SAS said "Let's give our team sent to America time to find out if the President is behind this or if elements of his army are following orders from a rogue US general."
The prime minister said "The team will have 24 hours to learn the truth, if they fail we will strike back with an airstrike against the US air force base in Greenland."
With that the meeting ended as the Prime Minister prepared to give a speech to the nation regarding the bombing at Gibraltar.
Washington Dulles international airport
Victor Daniels collected his baggage as his partner for this mission from MI6 Alexander was arranging for a car.
He knew that US General Ross was in DC and had an office nearby if they found evidence there which cleared America and stopped a possible World War 3 in its tracks.
With that Victor and Alexander headed to the Pentagon determined to find the evidence they needed before nuclear bombs starting being fired.
Unknown location
The Shadow sat in his office calmed down now after his outburst and had his men in Rio search Magnus's home for any clues as to where the necromancer might have gone after he left the man's house.
He also had his friends in WikiLeaks going over all everything they could find on Mr Magnus Rasputin. They couldn't a birth certificate on the man, but the first records of him date back to the 1700's when he bought a piece of land in London.
Since then the man had been moving from country to country every 30 years.
This made Shadow very curious as to the origins of Magnus Rasputin, he'd have to make the necromancer tell him of the man's past, along with his spells before he killed him as painfully and brutally as possible.
Asgard
Magnus Rasputin entered the throne room and saw it was empty aside from himself and Odin.
Magnus smirked and said "It's good to see you're still alive my old student, and you got the throne you always wanted. So tell me why did you summon me back here Loki?"
Loki ended his illusion spell and said "I have a task for you. Do it and I will give you whatever you want?"
Magnus asked "Well what can I do for you Loki?"
Loki replied "I need you to bring someone back from the dead and when I command it kill someone else for me."
Magnus smiled and said "Deal."
SHIELD medical facility Paris France
Phil had his phone in his hand as soon as it rang and stepped out into the hallway once he knew the caller was Director Fury.
He answered the call and before he could say a word Fury said "Graham has been shot. SHIELD is compromised. Coulson get your team and get back to HQ ASAP."
Phil said "Understood sir." He then hung up and went into Melinda's room where the rest of the team was waiting to hear what was going on.
Phil asked Simmons "Can Melinda be moved out of here and back to the plane without putting her life in jeopardy?"
Simmons looked at the chart and answered "She can be moved. But why do we need to move her?"
Phil answered "We have orders from Director Fury himself to get back to HQ. SHIELD has been compromised and he no doubt wants all those loyal to him at HQ before he makes a move against whoever has infiltrated us. So let's get out of here."
With that Melinda was helped out of bed as the team headed to the plane all the while Ward hoped his cover was still intact. If not he was a dead man.
London Number 10 Downing Street
Prime Minister Ed Miliband sat in his office and waited for any word from Barry Kzur, the head of the SAS or Michael Anderson the head of MI6 that their joint team in America had found evidence that cleared America if not World War 3 was likely going to happen.
The Prime Minister helped himself to a drink of whiskey to calm his nerves as there was a very real possibility that it would either be himself or President Ellis who first launched the nuclear weapon against the other turning this conflict into a nuclear war. Whoever did sealed the fate of both nations through mutually assured destruction.
He heard raised voices as the door to his office opened and a man with brown hair and a beard entered the room carrying a briefcase handcuffed to his wrist.
Ed Miliband asked angrily "Who are you? What makes you think you can just barge in here?"
The man un-cuffed the briefcase from his wrist and said "Mr Prime Minister, my name is George Murray. I am here on the orders on her majesty the Queen. I am also the director of STRIKE."
Ed Miliband looked at the man confused and said "I've never heard of it. Tell why you're here and what is STRIKE?"
George Murray sat down across from the prime minister and said "I'm here to present you with other options in this crisis you're dealing with. STRIKE was founded after World War 2 with the authority of then Prime Minister Winston Churchill and the royal family. We are tasked with protecting the British Empire at all costs against any and all possible threats."
Ed Miliband asked "The British Empire. The empire was ended years ago when we gave Hong Kong back to China?"
George Murray said "Yes but that's what we wanted the world to think. The British Empire still exists Mr Prime Minister. But right now you have more pressing matters to deal with."
Ed Miliband asked in confusion "What are you talking about?"
George Murray answered "There are elements of the parliament and the British army as well as members of your own cabinet who are planning a coup d'état against you. They're being led by the defence minister and working with another group. We don't know who but we know this. They are very powerful."
George Murray proceeded to tell the prime minister all he knew but he couldn't confirm if America's government wasn't compromised by this group or not as well.
