Well that's enough of an author's notes on with chapter 18.
SHIELD HQ
Jack Williams entered the office and put his own scrambler on the desk and activated it.
A few moments later the elevator opened and Captain America and Black Widow stepped out and were surprised to see Jack sitting behind Director Fury's desk.
Natasha asked "What's going on Jack. Where is Director Fury?"
Jack replied "He is away, while he and Maria are gone I am the acting Director of SHIELD. I called you both here as I learned something earlier today you both need to know. Captain this news in particular will shock you but it's the truth. SHIELD has been infiltrated."
Captain America shocked at this news asked "Who? Who could possibly infiltrate SHIELD?"
Jack answered "HYDRA. They're back. I want you both to get the rest of the Avengers here as soon as possible. Hawkeye is already on his way here. When they get here we have SHIELD agents who are prepared to back us up when we go after HYDRA members here. We'll start with Alexander Pierce, he is their leader. Kill him and we can start the process of curing SHIELD of this cancer it's been infected with afterwards by killing all the rest of those who are traitors to this organization."
Black Widow asked "How do you know their back?"
Jack took out the flash drive from his pocket and said "My father found out about HYDRA still being active years ago and had a man on the inside. He gave my dad this list of all those in SHIELD who are loyal. Everyone else is a traitor. My father nearly died getting this information to Fury. If he didn't HYDRA could have taken over and we'd have powerless to stop them."
Captain America said "Your dad found out about HYDRA still being around years ago and he didn't think to tell anyone about that?"
Jack walked over to Captain America and said "I would imagine my dad didn't know who to trust or not, that probably why he didn't tell me or Phil when he learned of Hydra's infiltration. I'd probably have done the same thing in his place. Now Captain assemble the rest of the Avengers and I'll start gathering SHIELD loyalists. Once they're ready and Hawkeye along with my team get back from Paris we'll take down Pierce."
With that the captain took out his phone and called Tony Stark.
London Number 10 Downing Street
George Murray opened his briefcase and put some of the files on the desk as he said "Mr Prime Minister I am here to assure you that the majority of the armed forces are loyal to you. STRIKE is also ready to back you when you move against these traitors."
Ed Miiband said "Are these traitors responsible for this current situation with America?"
George replied "As far as we can tell they are involved and these people they're working with have people in America working for them as well. They want us and America to destroy each other in war. It's part of their end game, whatever that is."
Ed Miliband looked at some of the files and asked in shock "Aliens have visited Earth before Mr Murray?"
George nodded and said "One ship crashed in America 1947 at Roswell New Mexico. By the time STRIKE operatives got there someone cleared the place and it wasn't SHIELD. In 1974 another ship similar to the one that crashed at Roswell crashed in the Scottish mountains. The pilot of the craft was dead from the crash. We took the tech and have reverse engineered it successfully. On the authority of the royal family and yourself only will STRIKE ever use this technology unless in an extreme emergency. Example if the Chituari got to British territory we would have unleashed our fighter squadrons against them. I am going to have my best operatives here to protect you from any possible attempts on your life. Good day Mr Prime Minister."
With that George stood up and left the room as Prime Minister Ed Miliband got on the phone and called President Ellis but he got no answer.
He then called in his security guards and ordered them to put the defence minister under arrest for treason.
He just hoped he was acting quickly enough to stop these traitors and whatever plan they had before the situation gets any worse.
Stark Tower New York City
Tony Stark was looking up the financials of Justin Hammer when his phone rang he saw that Mr stars and stripes was the caller.
Tony answered the call and the captain said "Get the rest of the team and come to SHIELD HQ as fast as you can. Hawkeye is already on the way here. I'll tell you what's going on when you get here."
With that the call ended and Tony sent a text message to Bruce saying to come up to the office when he was in the lab and he called Jane Foster's apartment knowing Thor would be there.
He was curious as to what was going on, but knew he'd get answers soon.
Bruce got off the elevator and asked "What's going on?"
Tony answered "The Cap needs us at SHIELD HQ. Jarvis got Happy to get a car ready to take us to DC."
With that Tony and Bruce went to the car as Tony made sure to bring his briefcase/suit with him.
London STRIKE HQ
Director George Murray entered his office and looked at a painting on the wall of the original leaders of STRIKE with the British flag behind them.
He had the painting moved into his office once he became the director of STRIKE, it reminded him of STRIKE's purpose and who made what the organization is today possible all those years ago.
One of his operatives entered the room and said "Sir, our team monitoring Jane Foster's home have reported that Thor left and was heading in the direction of America. Looks like something is going on in the US."
Director Murray said "Have all STRIKE bases here and abroad put on high alert. I will inform the queen about this new development."
The director of STRIKE then got on the phone and called Buckingham Palace.
Unknown location
The Shadow smiled as he saw the reports that the infamous Winter Soldier had tried to kill a former high ranking member of SHIELD, no doubt on orders from Hydra.
Things were starting to unravel for them all the while Shadow would sit back and watch it happen with a smile on his face.
'Pierce and the others should have known not to betray me, once they and their precious Hydra are in ruins. I will kill them all, slow and painfully if possible.' Shadow thought to himself.
The Bus
The team stood in the briefing room as Phil was struggling to control his anger at what happened to Graham. The man had been like a father to him for many years and was near death all due to what he learned about this infiltration of SHIELD.
Whoever these infiltrators were, Phil vowed to kill all those who were behind the attempt on Grahams life.
Clint who was piloting the plane said over the coms "We're a half hour away from SHIELD HQ. Everyone better get a night night gun or pistol on them. We might be walking into a firefight."
Phil said "We'll head to the main office. Jack will be assembling SHIELD loyalists there and he's called in the rest of the Avengers for help."
Melinda said "They'll certainly be in for a shock when they see you alive and well."
Phil merely said "Hopefully they don't try to kill me for not telling them I was alive."
Skye laughed and said "Don't worry AC. I'm sure if they tried May here would kill them and Jack would help her."
Clint who was listening to the conversation said over the coms "If things get out of hand I can talk to the others and get things calmed down."
No one said a word as they went to the armoury and got weapons or some night night guns.
London
The man sat in his office staring a blank computer screen which activated and showed a live video feed from the Guest House where the alien known as a Kree was being kept after crash landing to earth in 1947 at Roswell New Mexico.
The man said "Wake our guest up."
The man in charge of the facility Mr Smythe said with a sick smile on his face "Yes sir."
The Kree who was restrained to a table was shocked with an electric shock baton by Smythe, which woke the alien up.
The Kree said "What do you want now? I told you what you wanted to know? Just let me die."
The man smoked a cigarette and said "We found what you were sent here to retrieve. Now I want you to tell me. How many Infinity Stones are there and how many more are on planet Earth?"
The Kree said "There is only one here as far as I know and you have it?"
The man asked "What does this Infinity Stone do exactly?"
The Kree scoffed and said "I will tell you nothing."
Smythe hit the Kree with the electric baton several times and said "You will. Let's see how much pain you have to endure before you talk."
Smythe then hit the Kree with the baton again as several other men in the room rolled up their sleeves and grabbed some nearby baseball bats.
The man turned off his computer, knowing he'd get told when the Kree talked and simply stared at the briefcase which contained the Infinity Stone on his desk.
Private plane
Carl Berlin sat in his chair drinking a glass of Vodka. His pilot said over the coms "I got word from the SHIELD facility in Paris. Coulson and his team have gone back to SHIELD HQ in America. I'm turning us around to go to Washington DC now."
Carl took a deep breath as he became enraged at this news, he'd have to wait again before he reunited with his daughter.
Hopefully by the time he got America, the waiting would be over and he'd be with his daughter again. All he had to do now, was learn what happened to his wife and he knew who had the answers.
The Shadow.
SHIELD HQ
Jack watched as agents loyal to SHIELD were in the office loading their guns and getting ready for their attack on the traitors to SHIELD who work for HYDRA.
The elevator opened as several more agents entered the room followed by Maria and Sitwell.
Jack asked his ex-wife "Why aren't you heading to Berlin with Garrett and his team?"
Maria answered "I'm needed here Jack. Is everyone ready?"
She got acknowledgements from the agents as Sitwell said "Jack, you know by now your dad had a man inside HYDRA?"
Jack nodded as Sitwell said "It was me. He asked me to infiltrate HYDRA. I can get close to Pierce and end this now if you want?"
Maria said "No. We need to question him first then kill him."
Black Widow got a text message on her phone and said "Tony and the others are here."
The elevator opened as Tony Stark, Bruce Banner and Thor stepped out.
Stark looked around at all the agents in the room arming themselves and saw Romanoff and the Captain also in the room. He then asked "What's going on?"
Captain America answered "HYDRA is back Tony. They've infiltrated SHIELD up to the highest levels. Simply put SHIELD need our help."
Bruce Banner asked "You're telling me HYDRA has infiltrated SHIELD to its highest levels and people are only finding out about it now?"
Jack replied "My father found out about the infiltration years ago and had someone put on the inside. He told Director Fury about HYDRA's infiltration nearly dying in the process. No doubt HYDRA wants Project Insight. That's why they're getting ready for a takeover."
Tony asked "What's Project Insight?"
Maria answered "Project Insight is this three helicarriers flying next generation tech all synchronized to a network of satellites that locates the targets. Once launched they do not need to come down ever. The new precision weapons for long range will eliminate thousands of enemies per minute. We were going to use them against groups like AIM and Centipede. People who need to wiped off the face of the Earth."
Tony in shock said "You're talking about committing mass murder."
Jack said "People like Aldrich Killian they deserve death. It's the best way to take out all these threats to the world in one fell swoop."
Captain America asked "I thought the punishment came after the crime? Does the World Security Council know about this? Does Fury? Or are you two staging a coup of your own."
Jack said "They approved the project when Fury said SHIELD needed more firepower. Frankly I agree with him. Besides captain Centipede already committed a crime for which they need to be punished. Killing my son. And don't ever question my loyalty to SHIELD, it's in my blood. My father was on the council. My grandfather gave his life for SHIELD back in the 1960's."
Tony said "Bit extreme of a punishment don't you think?"
Maria said "Nothing that they don't deserve Stark. It was my son too that Centipede killed."
Thor simply said "You're both letting your anger and bloodlust cloud your judgement."
Tony asked "I wonder agent Williams. What would Coulson say if he learned of this plan to use those Helicarriers like the Death Star and obliterate thousands in minutes?"
Jack answered "He would approve. He was to be Josh's godfather. Thor I want to ask you something, is Loki still alive in Asgard?"
Thor curious said "Why do you ask?"
Jack replied "Simple Thor. I want Loki's head. He killed my brother."
Thor said "Loki is dead. He died helping me stop the Dark Elves."
Jack didn't say a word as he and Maria saw a helicopter approach the building.
Maria said "There's Director Fury. Now we have to wait for Hawkeye and Jack's team to arrive and then we can go to work on wiping out these traitors."
The helicopter landed on the helipad and Fury stepped out.
Once he entered the room he saw everyone there and asked "Is everybody ready?"
He got acknowledgements with nods from all the agents in the room.
Jack then got a text on his phone and said "Hawkeye and my team have arrived and are on their way here now. Stark I suggest you and the rest of the Avengers prepare yourselves for a shock."
The elevator opened a few minutes later and Hawkeye stepped out followed by several people who Tony assumed was Jack's team and finally a familiar face emerged.
Tony and the rest of the Avengers were in total disbelief when they saw who it was. It was Phil Coulson alive and well.
Thor asked "What is this?"
At the same time Bruce asked "How are you even alive Coulson?"
Phil said "I don't know how myself Dr Banner. After I died, Fury moved heaven and earth to bring me back. It took several days and afterwards months of recovery. Director Fury when this is over you're going to tell me everything."
Fury nodded as Black Widow walked over to Phil and punched him in the face. She then angrily asked Phil "Why didn't you tell us you were alive Phil?"
Fury answered by saying "I ordered him not to tell you. When Clint learned Phil was alive. I ordered him not to tell any of you either."
Black Widow glared at Hawkeye before she asked "What's the plan Fury?"
Fury replied "We arrest Pierce and take out all those who are Hydra. Then we can salvage what's left and carry on."
Captain America said "We're not salvaging anything Fury. We take down HYDRA, we take down SHIELD as well. If they infiltrated SHIELD once they can do it again."
Jack said "That is not happening. If we end SHIELD right here and now then all those names on the Wall of Valour. All of those agents who died in SHIELDs name over the years will have died for nothing. My grandfather among them."
Several agents nodded in agreement as Maria said "Maybe we do need to disband SHIELD temporally. Shield was built from the ground up once. It can be done again. After all SHIELD is not just an organization or the people in it. SHIELD is an idea and ideas can never die."
Fury said "We can decide the future of SHIELD later. Coulson, I want you and Sitwell leading the teams through each level of this building and clear them of all HYDRA agents. Jack I want you and Maria with me, we're arresting Pierce. Cap, I trust you and the Avengers know what to disable?"
Captain America said "We'll disable those helicarriers and then help your teams take the HYDRA agents into custody."
Fury said "Let's take HYDRA down."
The Pentagon
Victor and Alex entered General Ross's room and as Victor locked the door, Alex went onto the computer in the room. Determined to find out if General Ross was working for a third party.
Alex said "I've gotten past the firewall. Looks like the general has gotten a lot of payments recently from Quinn Worldwide. All monthly payments in the amount of 500,000 dollars each. Ian Quinn was taken into custody by SHIELD recently. So the fact that General Ross is getting money from Quinn's company shows that he is up to something."
Victor asked "Anything else on there. We'll more than that to stop World War 3."
Alex nodded in agreement and looked for anything else that might be unusual and found a file named Protocol 75. Alex opened the file and was in shock at what he read.
Victor asked "What is it Alex?"
Alex answered "General Ross is going to kill President Ellis"
