Chapter Forty-One

Instead of going straight home, Elizabeth decided to stop at Diane Miller's office. Waiting for the lawyer to finish the call she was on, the nurse studies the office. Noting the impeccable taste Diane has in furniture and accessories, the once-aspiring artist thinks of a piece that she had done that would be perfect for the room. She decides to make it a 'thank you' gift to the lawyer once all of her legal issues were behind her.

"Ms. Webber, you can go in now. Are you sure you wouldn't like something to drink? Coffee, tea or bottled water?"

"No, but thank you. I don't think this will take very long," the pregnant woman replies as she heads into the lawyer's office.

"Ms. Webber, Elizabeth, what a surprise!" the lawyer exclaimed. "Did we have an appointment that I've forgotten about?"

"Um, no….," Elizabeth hesitates.

"Okay, so what can I do for you today?"

"Diane, I was wondering if there was any way that you could maybe speed up my divorce. I've had one too many encounters with overzealous Spencer's to last me a lifetime. I just really want this done, and done quickly. Lucky signed the papers the other day before he stormed out of Nicholas' house. I was just hoping there might be a way to maybe, I don't know, push them through."

"First off, I can't believe you said all that in one breath. Secondly, I have already started the process and am happy to tell you, you will be a free woman as of tomorrow."

Completely stunned, "But, how did you know to….." she drifted off.

"Darling, I'm paid quite handsomely to ensure that my clients receive the best legal expertise that I have to offer. Jason has made it abundantly clear that you are at the top of that list." Getting up and walking around the desk, "In fact, these darling Jimmy Choos are my reward for pushing your divorce through."

"Oooh, those are fabulous, Diane."

"Mmmmmm….aren't they?" she replied. "Now, why don't you go on home and find a creative way to thank that fine specimen of a man you have waiting for you."

"Diane!" Elizabeth squealed and blushed.

"What?" she coyly responded. "I can appreciate what a strapping hunk of man Mr. Morgan is. Besides, I have my own hunk of a teddy bear that I'm heading home to. I have some absolutely delicious ideas on how to celebrate my successful day."

Laughing, the soon-to-be divorcee gathered her belongings, heading for the door, she turned, "Thank you, Diane, for everything."

"You're very welcome, my dear. Oh, and tell Jason I said 'hello'"

Arriving home to the penthouse, Elizabeth felt as though she were floating across the floor. Opening the door, she saw the man that she was madly in love with playing with toy motorcycles with her little boy. Looking up from the floor, Jason immediately saw the huge smile on her face and it brought one to his. "Hey."

"Hey, yourself."

Jumping up from the floor, the toddler goes running to his mommy, "Mom-m-m-m-m-y, yous home!"

"I am, baby. I see that you are playing with motorcycles with Jason."

"Uh huh. Wes been havin soooooooooo much fun, wight Jay-son?"

"Oh, we sure have, buddy," the enforcer smiles at the picture his family made.

"Cam, do you want to watch a Chuggin' Charlie DVD while Jason and I get dinner ready?"

Pumping his little fist in the air, "Y-e-e-e-s-s-s-s-s!"

"Okay, you go pick one out and we'll put it on the big TV for you."

"Yay! I's be wight back," the excited toddler took off for his movies.

Jason walked right up to Elizabeth and pulled her to him. Leaning down, he kissed her. Nibbling on her bottom lip, he sought entrance to her mouth. Willingly, she opened up to him and was soon lost in his kiss. Drawing away when the need for air became too great, he rested his forehead against hers, "Hey."

Smiling like a Cheshire cat, she locked her indigo blue eyes to his ice blue eyes, "Hey."

"How was your day?"

"It was good, then it sucked, then it was great – in that order."

"That sounds interesting, care to tell me about it?"

"Yeah, once we get in the kitchen and away from little ears," she replied as the toddler came back down the stairs with his choice.

"Dis one mommy, I's want to watch dis one."

Elizabeth put the movie on for her son, grabbed Jason's hand and headed towards the kitchen. The second they were out of sight, she leans up on her toes and kisses Jason. Caught off-guard, he takes a second to respond, but doesn't take over the kiss. He allows her to take control and lead him on whatever merry chase she wishes. Several minutes later, she eases away, taking deep ragged breaths. "I love you, Jason," she tells him, simply.

Smiling at her statement, he pulls her in for another kiss, "I love you too, Lizabeth."

Walking further into the kitchen, she can't stop grinning. She loves it when he calls her Lizabeth. It always makes her feel loved, like that tone is reserved just for her. It makes her feel special, it's his own way of giving her a piece of himself.

"So, wanna tell me what happened today? How it went from good to sucking to great?"

"Oh, well the good part is easy, I got to go to work today, and I just really enjoyed helping out our patients and it always makes me feel like I'm doing something good," she starts. "The part that sucked came in the form of one Miss Lulu Spencer, who felt that she just had to defend her brother's honor by degrading me and my children."

At that statement, Jason's eyebrow shot up, hands going to his hips, in a posture that alerted anyone and everyone to the fact that he was not happy. "What the hell did she have to say?" he asked, quietly, so the Cameron wouldn't hear.

"Well, I heard a lot of blah, blah, blah, Lucky, blah, blah, blah. Oh yeah, Lucky should automatically be forgiven for everything he did while he was on drugs. But it was the part when she called our baby," rubbing her belly to let him know which one she was referring to, "a bastard."

"WHAT?" Jason exploded.

"Shhhhhhhhhhh," Elizabeth said, as she walked closer to try and calm him down. "You know, I'm surprised Francis hasn't already called you to tell you that we got into it. By the way, when did you put a guard on me?"

Taking a deep breath to calm himself, "He did. He just didn't tell me what was said. I assumed that he wasn't close enough to hear anything, since I told him to be discreet. When, since you told me that we are having a baby. And before you ask, yes, I was planning on telling you. Since not too many people know, I thought it would be best if he stayed out of sight, but close enough if he was needed. It's only a matter of time before everyone knows and he won't be able to remain as discreet."

"Okay. He wasn't close enough for most of it, just for the end when I dragged Lulu away from the nurse's station. I think he got quite a kick out of me telling that little bitch that if she ever called our child a bastard again, I'd kill her and no one would ever find her body, or something to the effect."

Eyebrows raised in surprise, he smirked at his beautiful, and apparently violent-when-provoked, nurse. "Mama bear protecting her cub. And you're right, no one would ever find the body, I'd sure as hell make sure of that."

"But the great part of my day, besides coming home and seeing you and Cam playing together, was going to see Diane. She told me that my divorce is final as of tomorrow. I'm a free woman, you're a free man…" she trailed off.

Smirking at the memory, he made a small noise of disagreement as he laced their fingers together, "I'm pretty much taken at the moment." Leaning in he gives her a slow, seductive kiss. "And I plan to stay taken, by you, for the rest of my life," he declares, hoping that his forward statement doesn't scare her too much.

Closing her eyes and leaning into him, she was stunned by his confession, and ecstatic that he was being so open with her. The more he opened up, the more she felt that she could open up. "You know, I really like the sound of that."

"I'm glad, because I don't want to lose you. I don't want to lose what we have together. Ever again." He really couldn't believe how easy it was for him to say the things that he's always wanted to say to her. The fact that she has been reciprocating in conveying her feelings for him has made it that much easier.

The hormonal pregnant woman couldn't help it, her tears just started flowing, with no way to stop them.

Nervous that what he said had somehow upset her, "Eliz…Lizabeth, what's wrong?"

"I….I'm….I'm okay," she managed to get out. She held on to his waist and rode out the emotional torrent and it was a few moments before she was able to collect herself. Pulling back a little, she smiled up at him, "Sorry, pregnancy hormones. I didn't mean to ball all over you like that."

"Are you sure you're alright?"

Nodding her head, she hugged him tightly, "Yes, I'm alright. It's just that my emotions are a little more dramatic when I'm pregnant. I don't want to lose you, either."

Arms wrapped around her waist, he pulls her as close as their child would let him, and relishes in it. Kissing her gently, he looks down at her, "Maybe we should think about dinner. I bet Cam's getting hungry by now."

Collecting herself, she agrees with him and walks over to the refrigerator to pull out the makings of a dinner that Cam and both the adults would like. Working side by side with Jason, they get dinner ready and set everything up at the table before calling their son away from his movie. Jason goes and stops the video, promising that when dinner was over and he had taken his bath, the toddler could finish the video instead of story time before bed.
