Kagome took in the men that were going about, fixing the trashed jet.
It was funny, the moment school let out, she got a call from Director Fury asking for a favor. It was the fact that he asked her, instead of showing up out of nowhere and demanding things of her, that had her agreeing with his request.
Standing to the side, she took in the degree of damage done. Looked like someone had fun.
When her eyes finally landed on the red roadster, she realized some things very quickly. Red was no longer an eye catcher for her, apparently since she pretty much ignored the car completely and someone very awesome was nearby.
She was just about to go to search for said person, only to bump into a brick wall. Hands instantly flew up to soothe her aching nose as she took a step back. Did one of the crew men leave something behind her and she didn't notice?
Looking up, taking in the scowling man. It was painfully obvious that not only did the crew men not leave something behind her, but he did not at all looked pleased at seeing her.
"Who are you, and what are you doing here?"
Rubbing her still sore nose, she took him in. Black hair that was well kept, dark brow eyes tried to dissect her where she stood while his brows were furrowed. His mouth was in a firm line of disapproval, his entire posture was held in such a way to make him look more intimidating to her.
Her automatic response to such tactics was to scowl. She was really tired of men thinking that just because she was young and of the female persuasion, did not mean she could be pushed around.
"Rude, but since you asked, I'm Kagome."
His eyes narrowed that tiny fraction more, which caused her to narrow her own in retaliation.
"I meant a full name, and you left out why, more importantly how, you're here."
"I know what you meant, doesn't mean I'm going to give you the whole answer. And wouldn't you like to know."
"You seem confused, little girl." the jab caused her to raise a brow in question. "I -am- going to learn the truth. I think the interrogation room is still intact, want to go see?"
When he reached for her, she ducked and quickly moved away from him. He looked down at her, obviously displeased and growing upset with her.
"Cooperate, and I'll go easy on you."
"Right, and my dad is gay." she snorted. While her father did enjoy sex, she shuddered at ever thinking such thoughts, he wasn't that loose to get a thrill. Besides, he and Pepper were going strong.
He reached out for her again, trying to use his size as an advantage, but she just as quickly ducked out and away from him. It continued like so for a while, both avoiding the others and obstacles. After a few more minutes, the man had grown to a whole new level of pissed off at her.
"I didn't want to use force and hurt you, but you leave me no choice."
After a few more ducks and weaves, he finally managed to grab a hold of her wrist and twist her arm behind her back while taking a firm grip of her other arm. Thinking he finally had her under control, he began directing her towards the lab where the interrogation room laid beyond.
Kagome had a different idea in mind. Using him as a support, she kicked herself up into a sort of handstand move which was somewhat painful and awkward when she wasn't using the floor as a stable surface. But the move freed her pinned arm, put her at eye level with the man and with the momentum, landed on his shoulders only to vault off of them and flip backwards.
The man himself stumbled forward, barely catching himself from falling on his face. Kagome on the other hand was crouched and more than ready to take him on.
"I see the reports were true."
Both turned towards the source of who spoke up. Both their postures instantly relaxed at the sight that greeted them, though Kagome had turned into nothing but smiles.
"Agent Romanoff really has been teaching you."
"Agent Coulson!" skipping over, she enthusiastically hugged the older man. They may have met only twice, and for such a short time, but the man was just awesome in her general opinion. He could handle her father like no other. "It's good to see you again."
"You as well. Though I'd like to know why."
Pulling back from the hug, Kagome told him. "After Director Fury heard what happened..." she shrugged her shoulders,
"Wait, you tell him when he didn't even ask, but you fought me tooth and nail to keep the answers? What gives? And that didn't explain anything."
Kagome turned towards the agent, it was easy to tell he was such with his attitude and how he held himself.
"I'm here for a check up."
The man furrowed his brows. He threw a quick and questioning glance at Coulson proved that he wasn't going to get his answer there, he returned his attention back to her. "Wrong place to see a doctor."
"Not for me. I'm here to do a quick medical check on Coulson and his team. Which includes you, I might add."
By then the rest of Coulson's team were also present and listening in on the conversation.
"Aren't you a little young to be doing an entire medical evaluation?"
"Depends on how you view time." Kagome turned towards Coulson, showing she was done answering the mans questions. "So where would be best?"
"Follow me. The lab is currently... out of commission." he turned and took a few steps to the next deck before turning to the rest of his team. "You are all going to get a check up as well. That isn't a request."
When he once again started climbing the stairs again, Kagome followed ignoring the whispers behind her. "So what was that you were saying earlier, something about reports?"
"That Agent Romanoff took to teaching you. It shows in how quickly you've learned."
"Ah that. She isn't the only one. Agent Barton also took me under his wing, so to speak." when she heard a light chuckle come from the man in front of her, she quickly went over what she had just said. "I didn't mean that as a joke."
"I know."
"Yet you still laughed." she mocked scolded him, she was still getting used to idioms and wording things in English. A fact that her father found adorable.
Once they were all on the second deck, Coulson led them to a sitting area where she could easily examine them, and place her bag within reach should she need it.
"Well, Agent Coulson, you're up first."
He easily took a seat and the moment he was comfortable, she jumped right in. Pulling out the 'required' papers, she began asking the questions and checking them off. "Any pains and aches I need to know of? And don't lie, I'll find out."
"Slight discomfort in my wrists and shoulders. Other than that, I'm fine."
The next minute or two went on as such, she asked the questions and checked and wrote down his answers, all in a professional manner. Placing the papers aside, she began the actual physical examination.
"You know, for a kid, you're very professional about all this."
Kagome hummed as she finished up the eye reaction test and asked to see Coulson's wrists. "A kid is a baby goat. As for the other part, I want to be a doctor."
"Wanting to be a doctor, and SHIELD having you preform medical examinations on some of their top agents are two very different things." the man from earlier was now finishing the woman's questioning comments.
Looking over her shoulder, she raised a brow at the woman that was talking. Right away, Kagome could tell she wasn't an agent or trained by SHIELD. She held herself slightly separated from the rest of the group. But despite that, there seemed to be a bond forming between her and the man that confronted her earlier.
"Interesting..." smiling, she shook her head and returned her attention back to Coulson. "How's your back?"
"Fine."
Raising a brow, she stubbornly sat there with her arms crossed over her chest. They both knew that was the main reason she was currently doing what she was doing. Coulson let out a sigh and began to remove his jacket and tie.
"As for your earlier comment, I'm aware of the differences. I'm being tutored, so to speak, by a certain doctor." the moment Coulson's back was within reach, she began to poke and prod at the scar tissue, feeling more than just with her hands.
"Romanoff, Barton and now Banner as well? What about the others?"
"Well, Rogers is helping me with my American history homework. Dad is filling in the blanks when it comes to sciences and technologies. And Thor, when he's around, is... more than happy to share his knowledge on... alternative science, as dad likes to call it."
"Wait, wait, wait, wait. Romanoff, Barton, Banner, Rogers and Thor. Aren't those...?"
"The Avengers? Yup. We're all one big happy family under one roof." Kagome patted Coulson's shoulder to indicate she was done and returned to his papers to finish with her assessment and report. Grabbing the next file, she called for her next patient. "Agent... Leo Fitz, you're next."
"How is the construction coming along?" Coulson asked as if it were an everyday topic.
"Pretty much done. But since it's being converted into the Avernger's tower, there's remodeling going on through the entire building. So things are hectic at the moment."
A young man with hair curling the slightest amount and a shade between ginger and dark blond took the spot Coulson vacated. Kagome offered a warm smile before starting with the questions. Other than Agent May's still sore wrist and the few bruises she received, Kagome zipped through the medical examinations until she finally landed on Agent Ward.
As soon as she was done with the questionnaire, her eyes zeroed in on the red stain at his side. "Off with the shirt."
"What? No." he pulled back from her hands, frowning his obvious displeasure.
"I need to check that wound. If it's fine, I'll leave it as is after cleaning it. If worse comes to worse, I'll stitch it myself."
"No." he pushed her hands away.
"Stop acting like a whiny, anti-social baby." she huffed when he pulled out of her reach, and began to stand up.
"Ward, sit down. The quicker she checks you, the quicker she's done."
Ward glanced between Coulson and herself, confused and unsure of whether to follow through or not. He let out a sigh as he plopped back down in the seat, Kagome offered a smile as a thanks only to huff when he rolled his eyes. Shifting so that his injured side was facing her, he lifted his shirt to expose the wound.
Rolling her eyes, Kagome grabbed the rubbing alcohol and dabbed at the wound not at all surprised by the slight jumping and twitching of muscle beneath her hands.
"So I hear you're friends with a boy from your school."
Kagome paused in her work and eyed Coulson with a pout. "Don't you start too."
"What do you mean?"
Returning to the task at hand, Kagome tisked when she saw the extent of the wound. Grabbing a needle and thread, she prepared herself and Ward for what was to come.
"What do you think? Dad is threatening Peter with all sorts of things should he 'get out of line' while telling me he is more than ready to make 'bad boys and evil men' disappear should I ever say so." Kagome snorted at the first time Peter came over so they could work on a project and the interrogation he had to sit through for a near hour. "Mom on the other hand is over the moon. Can't wait to meet him."
While she was explaining all this, she neatly, quickly and as painlessly as possible stitched the wound on Ward's side shut. When done, she applied a bandaged to keep the knot from snagging and tearing through the skin. "There, that should do it. Don't forget to change that bandage regularly."
"I've been meaning to ask, who exactly is your father?"
Kagome packed her equipment and the papers back into her bag, smiling as she slung the strap over her shoulder. Facing Agent Simmons, she chuckled at everyone's expression when she answered the woman's question.
"Tony Stark." she turned to Coulson and pulled something out of her pocket. "I think these are yours. You know, you really should tell them, it's sort of unfair that I have a higher clearance than they do. And when they find out, cause they will, they'll be upset that I knew the entire time while they were in the dark."
"Like you said, they don't have the clearance."
"They're kicking themselves over what happened, blame themselves. Especially Rogers and Thor." she looked in dead in the eye, waiting for a response.
Coulson finally looked down to see what she handed him. His Captain America collectors deck. All were signed by the man himself, but were also blood stained. If he had any idea, and it was a pretty good one, he would say it was his own blood.
"And after what happened in California, you may want to keep things... how is it said? On the down low? I think dad suspects you're still around."
"How do you figure that?"
"Please. Unexplainable explosion, man with powers saves trapped woman, incident at the train station that was cleaned up nicely, neatly and quickly? That has SHIELD written all over it, and your signature attached to it." she smiled as she turned towards the staircase that would lead her below. "And we were in the city after checking up on the western factory. Dad watches the news when he's bored. There was a tiny glimpse of yours truly."
With that, she offered a wave over her shoulder and descended the stairs and went to where Director Fury was waiting.
"And?"
"All are fit and able. I'll give you the papers when we land."
"And Coulson?"
"Perfectly fine, which I can't say the same for you when we get back."
The dark man tossed her a confused look, silently asking her to elaborate what exactly she was talking about.
"You'll have to deal with dad. You showed up after school, took me to south America to treat agents of SHIELD all without him knowing. He's going to view it as a form of kidnapping. I foresee a headache in your immediate future."
Fury groaned when her words settled. She was right, ever since Tony learned he was a father, and after the battle of New York, he's been only too happy to take up the role of father. The man was going to ask, scratch that, demand why his daughter was mysteriously taken away and wouldn't be happy until he had the whole story. The others would involve themselves to keep things calm, if not also want to learn when he had borrowed Kagome.
A headache was indeed in his immediate future.
AN: After watching the second episode, this is immediately what I pictured happening. I did not like the not so subtle hint about Coulson in the first episode, but the fact that he's there at all pleases me so much. I'm really enjoying the show so far! Other than that; read, enjoy, and review!
