It was that coward's...

Carter felt stunned at the harshness of her words. Aarya had left the room over an hour ago, but he still sat there, staring at the wall blankly.

That coward...

That coward...

That coward...

The pure hate and anger in her voice was enough to throw anyone off. How could anyone hold so much hate inside? He had a feeling that he had seen a darker side of the girl who had been taking care of him.

He wasn't sure what to believe, really. Her story made sense, but something still nagged at the back of his head. His brain was muddled, and it hurt to try and think. Whatever happened to him was hurting a lot, and he couldn't think straight.

He chuckled bitterly. He hadn't been able to think straight since he first woke up. What was the point of trying now?

Coward...

The thought entered his head again before he had the chance to mentally scorn himself some more. He frowned, resuming his staring at the wall.

All her fault...

She wasn't a coward. Zia wasn't a coward.

Was she?

He didn't really know anymore.

Thinking back on those years ago were painful for her. She didn't like to look back at it, she didn't like talking about it, or even think about it. The thought of thinking about it made her sick.

What had happened was awful, yes. She knew that it was in the past, and that that threat was over. Maybe not forever, but for now, it was.

Staring into the liquid of the scrying bowl, she thought over the past few weeks. He had come back home, whether he realized it or not. She was determined to have him think that, to join the right side, and stay with them.

It wasn't that she actually liked him. Well, maybe a little...but to get him on her side, she didn't need feelings. That wasn't the way things worked.

Even though she wasn't there, she remembered when the two first met: It was at a mueseum, before the two siblings lost their father. He had briefly spotted the girl and the older man, waiting for them. The girl was anxious to kill them, but she had orders: to wait. Then there was the replacement with the shabiti...whether or not it was for her own good, the former Chief Lector, Iskander, must have sensed something.

Zia had changed so much since that day...and now was the time for her revenege.

She glanced into the room where the boy was staying. The spell should have worked better than it did, but he still had doubts. This was much more difficult than she thought.

Is it time?

The thought was innocent enough. She didn't speak it out loud, only repeated it in her head, mulling over the question, until she finally got her answer.

Yes.

With a small smile, she took out her wand and walked over towards the doors. Carter didn't know this room existed; not that he would notice, seeing as he hardly left his room. But he wouldn't know...not until he was ready to accept the truth.

On the door, there were seven letters. The first letter began with an 'A'. Placing the tip of the wand on the door, she traced the letter before signing the rest of her name next to it. It glowed gold briefly, searing her name into the door, before dying out.

Aarya.

"Aarya!" Ette's voice shouted, skidding into the room. Her white hair was a mess, and she looked like she had just crawled out of bed. Her eyes were wild with something that looked like anxiousness and...excitement?

"What is it?" Aarya asked, though she already knew what Ette was in here for.

The girl's eyes gleamed. "Did you...?"

She nodded once. "It's time. Inform Peter tomorrow. We can't let this go around at once; there's a chance he'll hear and remember. We don't want that...not yet."

Ette's eyes were practically shining. "I can't believe it. He's finally...he's finally coming! It's finally time for them to pay for what they did!"

Aarya grinned. "You're right. It is." With another glance at Carter's room, she put a finger to her lips. "Don't want him to hear, though, do we?"

The white-haired girl's expression turned serious, and she inspected the door. "There's no room for him. You know that already..."

Her smile faded. "Yes, I do. I'm hoping he'll forgive Carter and let him stay...but there's no guarentee for that."

"You like him," Ette accused.

"Maybe," Aarya admitted. "But if he says he can't live...well, I won't put this whole mission to ruin because of my stupidity, or my feelings. I'm not going to let a stupid crush get in the way of our plans. His plans."

Ette still looked suspicious, which irritated her. With a snarl, Aarya jerked her head towards the exit. "What are you waiting for? Go tell him! I don't need to screwing around and mulling over non-exisitant ideas!"

That sure got her running, Aarya noted with satisfaction, a small smirk on her face. Ever since he left, her leadership was crumbling, but it was good to know that she still had enough power over them in order to keep the plan running.

She looked back at the door, putting her hand on it, looking at it with respect and understanding, and a little something like longing. "Soon," she mumbled. "I promise."

The door rumbled ever so slightly. It sounded like a small earthquake, but if you really listened, you could almost hear the laughter coming from behind those doors...
