Charlie woke to a horrible pain in his head. 'Where am I?' he thought to himself. Then it all came flooding back to him. His kidnapping, escaping, and beating. He immediately sat up, but regretted it, lying back down. He let out an involuntary moan. Apparently, the guard outside heard it and came in.

"Good you're awake. Boss wants to see you again." He said evilly. He dragged Charlie to his feet.

Charlie was dreading this meeting. He had just been beaten and now he was wondering what other torture his kidnapper had in store. He was led through the forest to a clearing where a cabin stood. His kidnapper sat on the verandah.

"Ah, Charlie. It is time. I didn't expect it to be so soon, but your father is a very speedy man." He said.

"What do you mean?" Charlie asked in a quiet voice.

"I mean that your father is nearly here to retrieve you."

Charlie could have jumped for joy if not for the man holding him.

"Now we need to go to the meeting spot. I estimate about 2 hours until he gets here. Jason, would you bring Charlie to a horse and secure him there?" the boss said.

"Right boss." Jason said dragging Charlie to two horses. The boss followed.

Jason lifted Charlie onto the second horse and tied his little hands to the pommel. He then tied the end of another rope to one of Charlie's ankles and wrapped it under the horse's stomach tying it to his other ankle.

Charlie didn't know what was going on, only that he was going to see his daddy.

SCENE CHANGE

Will was so close to finding and rescuing his son. The previous clue had been,

Your prize may be found in a desolate place near the solitary plains.

Where the kalkara met their doom.

An evil feind once ruled it.

We will make contact.

So now Will was on his way to the ruins of Gorlan, as that was what the clue was referring to. He had only just arrived when he saw two horses coming towards him. One was being led by the other and had a smaller passenger. 'Charlie.' Thought Will.

As they drew nearer, Will saw who his opponent was. A man with wild black hair, blue eyes, and a really large nose. Also a very scarred face.

"Ah, Will. Wonderful you could join us." The man taunted.

"Cut the crap. I'm here for my son." Will snapped annoyed.

"All in good time-"

"No. Now." Will interrupted as he drew an arrow and aimed it at the crazy man.

"I wouldn't do that if I were you. You see, I hold all the cards." He said bringing Charlie closer to him. The small boy looked at his dad desperately.

"I would let him go if I were you. But that's just me." Said a voice from beside the wild man. A sword was pointed at the man.

"I told you to do it alone Treaty! I guess I will have to kill your son then." He said just before an arrow slammed into his chest.

Will looked around startled. He hadn't fired. Someone else had beat him to it. The wild man's henchman came out of the rocks with his bow in hand.

"I never liked him anyway." He said. Will jumped down from Tug and freed his son. The two embraced and remained there for a few long, precious minutes. After this, Will turned to Horace.

"What were you thinking?" Will asked.

"I was thinking you needed help even if you didn't want it."

"Well, I'm grateful anyway. And also to you my friend." Will said to the henchman.

"No don't thank me. I did terrible things to your son. I don't deserve to live." Will noticed, for the first time, the bruises that plagued Charlie's face. 'Not too bad.' He thought.

"I forgive you. You've shown that you can change by saving Charlie. Thank you." The henchman nodded and walked away.

"I guess we should head back to mommy eh little man?" Will teased Charlie hauling him in the front of the saddle on Tug. Charlie giggled and fell into a much needed sleep. Horace tailed behind.

"How did you find me?" Will asked Horace when Charlie was asleep.

"I followed you. You were so wrapped up in your worries that you never suspected me."

"Well, I'm glad you did. How's Evanlyn?"

"She's fine. But I have some news. She's having another baby." Will went slack-jawed at this. Horace was beaming.

"Congratulations!" With that remark the two rode back to Redmont, as happy as two best friends could be.
