I do not own Harry Potter...only the plot.

(A/N: I apologize for not having updated in so long. Been a very busy summer for me. However, I will begin updating, hopefully, every week or so. Hope you all can forgive me! And enjoy this chapter!)

Hermione and Draco were very happy with how life was at the moment. They had been together for a month now. The dates were going well and working together was also going swimmingly. The Minister was ecstatic over both of these. His plans had worked out. Two former enemies, house rivals, were working peacefully together and was also dating. Wasn't it just lovely? However, little did he know, all of that would change in just a blink of an eye.

It was early Tuesday morning. Draco and Hermione had meetings all day long. They were sitting at their desks opposite each other working on some papers before the first meeting was to begin in just an hour when Hermione's desk phone started to ring.

"Hello? Hermione Granger speaking." She answered. Draco looked up at her. It was silent for a moment.

"Yes, I remember who you are." She said as she leaned back in her desk chair and started to pale. Again, it was silent as the other person spoke. He watched her as her eyes went wide and her mouth dropped.

"What?! Are you serious?! I didn't think she would have magical abilities because of the bloodlines!" Hermione basically screamed. She then realized where she was and who was staring at her across the way. "Um, can I call you back later tonight?" The person answered her and Hermione then hung up the phone.

"Love, what was that about?" Draco asked.

Hermione looked up at him. She bit her bottom lip. She had to tell him but she wouldn't right now when they had a ton of important meetings throughout the day. "I'll tell you later, dear. Something came up, that's all."

Later, after all the meetings and they made their way back to the office, Draco mentioned going out tonight. But Hermione declined saying she had some extra paperwork she needed to catch up on. He accepted her excuse and went to the fireplace to Floo home. As soon as he did, she went straight up to the Minister's office.

She knocked on the door and heard a gruff voice say come in. She opened the door and said, "Hello, sir. I'm sorry to bother you so late."

He looked up and smiled. "Oh, you're not bothering me at all, child. However, I am concerned as to why you are here. Is something wrong?"

"I'm needing to take a few personal days off. There is an emergency of sorts that I need to take care of. Can I have a week off?" She asked timidly.

"Hermione, of course! You rarely took off a day when you were my secretary. Except for those few months about 5 years ago when I had to hire a temporary secretary for a time being. Go ahead. Take as long as you need for this emergency that came up." The Minister said as he smiled at her.

She returned the smile and thanked him. She told him it would be effective immediately and that Draco would be able to take care of the Department by himself until she got back. She also told him that she didn't want anyone knowing about this until she sorted it all out. As she stepped out of his office, the Minister couldn't help but wonder what it was that had called her away.

Hermione called the people back as soon as she got home. She made arrangements to go to them that very night. As she packed her bag, she couldn't believe it was happening. This was truely happening to her. She was freaking out a little but who wouldn't in her situation. After packing her bags, she took her wand out and Disapparated into the alley that was 4 blocks away from the Muggle home she would soon be stepping into.

She glanced out of the alleyway and saw that no one was around. It was a quaint little town in northern Maine. She was glad this is where she had found these two people. Glad that they were Muggle. As she walked down the road to the house, she became increasingly nervous. How could this have happened?

When she reached the door, she stood for a moment before knocking. After she did, she waited for a second before the door opened. At first, she didn't see anyone until a little voice said, "Hello? Who are you?"

Hermione looked down and gasped. There standing in front of her was a little girl of 4 years old with blonde curly hair and gray eyes. She covered her mouth as she realized she was staring directly at her and Draco's daughter. This is what had come of that night 5 years ago.

As Hermione kept staring, the little girl asked her again who she was. That finally got Hermione out of the trance that she had been in. She shook her head slightly and knelt down in front of the little girl. "My name is Hermione. Is anyone else home?"

At that moment, she heard a woman's voice ask who was at the door. The little girl turned around and said that it was a woman named Hermione. Hermione rose back up as she looked at the woman turning the corner into the hallway. She smiled, "Hello, Marie. It's good to see you again."

Marie returned the smile and said, "Hermione, dear, it's been too long. But I do know why." She then turned to the little girl and said, "Isabella, can you go on up to your room and play for a while so I can talk to Miss Hermione here?" The little girl nodded and ran upstairs. They both watched her go. When she was gone, Marie turned back to Hermione. She noticed how Hermione's lip was quivering as she stared at the area where Isabella had gone up. She looked back at Marie and had tears running down her face.

"Marie, I know it was the right thing to do at the time but I really wish I had kept her instead of giving her up for adoption. I'm just glad I met you all before I had her. If not, I may not even know what has happened to her. And I remember telling you all that if she showed any magical ability to let me know…did she really do something today that proved that?" Hermione asked; her voice still a little shaky.

Marie nodded and motioned for her to get her bags and come in. "Yes, Hermione. We were up at 5 this morning like we are every other morning and sitting in the kitchen. My husband and I were at the table and little Isabella was trying to get into her chair by herself. She's still having a little difficulty with that. So, anyway, we're watching her trying to get herself up and she stops and huffs a little bit from not being successful. Next thing we know the chair zoomed out by itself and she raised into it. Both my husband and I were shocked to say the least and as soon as breakfast was done and Isabella was upstairs getting her school bag, he turned to me and told me I needed to call you right away."

Marie watched as the young woman in front of her took it all in. She remembered almost 5 years ago when this woman came into town. She looked dejected and like she had nowhere else to go. Marie and her husband had taken pity on the poor girl and let her stay in their home with them. As the girl had stood in the hallway looking at the pictures, Marie had remembered an instance of fear. They had moving photos. If this girl was like them, then she would freak out and want to know what was up with those photos. However, they heard her gasp and turn around; looking at them with wide eyes and a smile on her face.

She had asked them if they were a witch and wizard. They told her no they weren't, but their daughter had been a witch born of non-magical parents. She told them that she was the same way…she didn't have magical parents either. She had asked where their daughter was now and they told her she had died in a car accident the day after she graduated from her Wizarding school. Hermione had told them she was sorry. Then, she told them why she was in America. That she had had a one night stand with her "enemy" and she had turned out pregnant. She didn't want anyone to know so she had fled to America to have her baby and put it up for adoption. She was crying by this part saying how she didn't want to give up the baby but that was what was going to have to happen.

They had all sat down and talked it over and came up with a plan of sorts. Marie and her husband would let the baby see pictures of her biological mother and father when she was old enough to understand what being adopted was really about. And, if she was to show signs of magical ability, they would contact Hermione. Marie was jolted out of her thoughts when Hermione started to talk.

"You're saying she raised herself into the chair?!" Hermione basically whisper-shouted.

"Yes, she did. We stared at her and she asked us why we were but we said we just loved to see her pretty face. But that was something we didn't know could happen. We didn't know that a witch or wizard could lift their self up," said Marie.

"Most witches and wizards can't. Only those with powerful magic can. I guess having a child between the two smartest people of our age would cause that." Hermione said.

Marie looked at her for a moment and then asked what she had wanted to ask since that morning. It was something else that had been discussed when they had made that deal. At that time, Hermione had said she didn't know what she would do. Well, it was time for her to make that decision now. "Hermione, do you want to take her back to England with you to raise, like we talked about 5 years ago?"
