I do not own Harry Potter…only the plot.

(A/N: Hey y'all. I realized something as I was reading over the last chapter I wrote that contradicts something I said a few chapters back. In chapter 8 I said "I went on holiday to the States. At first it was just to do some research for the Minister, but then something came up and it became a holiday.". However, last chapter I said that Hermione had fled to the States once she knew she was pregnant. I'll tell you all that let's say Hermione just went to Maine whenever she found out she was pregnant and had before been in Minnesota doing research. So, anyway, hope you all enjoy the chapter!)

Chapter 12

She knew that question was coming as soon as she had heard the news about Isabella. She bit her lip. She couldn't face how everyone would react once they found out she had had a child. Dear Merlin, what would Draco think?! He would freak out. Over the past month, he had told her how he can't wait to have a family of his own and be a better father than his own. She sighed and looked at Marie.

"I do want to take her back. So, that I can introduce her into the world she should've known since birth. I'm not saying I regret giving her up because I know that you and your husband have been wonderful parents to her. But I'm going to have to wait a couple weeks before I do take her. Besides, we have to go through court proceedings to change her legal guardianship back over to me." Hermione said. "Also, I have to tell the father." She looked away and then back at Marie. "He and I are together. We started working together a month ago and it just led to us dating. I don't know how he is going to take it. He's told me how he's looking forward to having a family."

She finally looked back at Marie and saw the older woman looking at her. Marie got up and began to make some tea on the stove. Hermione sat quietly waiting until Marie said something. Marie turned back toward her and smiled.

"Well, the guardianship shouldn't be a problem. My lawyer friend already knows the story of Isabella. And she told me that if you would want to take her back then the paperwork should be too much of a hassle since you are the biological mother of the child." Marie sat back down. "Now, it's up to telling her that she's going to be moving to another country with her biological mother."

Hermione nodded. "Yes, that's true. I hadn't thought about that. Do you think she'll put up a fight about it?"

Marie shook her head. "No. I don't believe so. Ever since she could get her hands on books and talk, she was constantly saying how she wanted to go to England because it would be so cool." They both laughed at that.

*Meanwhile in England*

Draco stood on the doorstep. He frowned and knocked again. That's when he began to talk. "Come on, Hermione. Open the door. I know you said you had paperwork to catch up on but can we at least do that together?" He waited for a response but got none. He sighed. Was she mad at him? He racked his brain for something that he possibly could have done wrong. He couldn't think of anything.

He heard a pop in the alleyway and looked and Harry walked out of the alleyway making sure to check for Muggles beforehand. As he strode up the sidewalk and turned to go up Hermione's walkway, he looked up and saw Draco standing there.

"What have you done, Malfoy? Is she mad at you?" Harry said while laughing.

Draco scowled. "No, I haven't done a thing. She said she needed to catch up on her paperwork at home tonight so I came over and thought that we could catch up on it together because I have some I need to. However, it seems that your best friend is refusing to open the door."

Harry rolled his eyes and looked around. There were no Muggles in sight. He looked back to the door, took out his wand, and whispered, "Alohomora." The door opened and Harry walked through. "You do know she has it where we, as her best friend and boyfriend, can get into her house in case something happened."

Draco stood there with his mouth open. How could he have forgot? He pushed Harry out of the way and walked down the hallway. There was no lights on in the house. He looked at his watch as Harry turned on the hall light and shut the door. It was only 7 pm. Where could that witch be?

He turned toward Harry. "Potter, do you know where this woman is?"

"No, I don't. If I did, I would have went wherever she was instead of coming here. Now, are you sure she's not just laying down? She didn't look good today. That's why I was coming to see her."

"She did look bad ever since that phone call this morning but I don't know why that would have caused her so much grief. She told me something just came up. Yeah, you're probably right, Potter. She's just laying down."

At that, both men continued down the hall until they reached her room. They knocked but there was no answer. Draco turned the knob and opened the door. What was there surprised both men. Clothes were scattered everywhere. Like someone had packed in a hurry. In the middle of the bed, both of them spotted a piece of paper.

Harry, being the Auror, walked over and picked up the piece of paper and read it out loud. "189 Salmon Creek Road. Amity, Maine." He looked up at Draco and saw the confused look that was most likely on his also. "What is this address? Do you know?" Draco shook his head. Harry walked over to him and held out his arm. "Come on, Malfoy. There's only one way to find out. And I have a feeling that is where Hermione will be."

Draco took hold of Harry's arm and with a pop both had Disapparated to northern Maine.
