I stepped back, stunned. Frostbite mumbled "I've made my choice." After a minute, everyone began coming out of the bushes. Suicune stepped over them, a pink parcel on her back. Glaring at me, she stated "Luckily for you, I have a more important thing to do." Nudging the package, a pink and blue bow splayed out. In a single swirl of leaves, she was gone.
"What now?" Haruhi's voice broke the silence. "Our quest is finished."
Cu looked away, and Chi seemed stunned. "We're splitting up?!" I didn't notice it, but in the week I thought I was in the castle, she must had grown up slightly. No one spoke for a minute.
"Yes. You, Haruhi and I can continue traveling. But Ivy and Frostbite must go home."
"Why? Aren't we all wild?" Then it seemed to hit her. "You're captured?" She turned to Frostbite and I, slightly shaking. "Why wasn't I told?" Everyone looked away. Leaves crackled, and I could see Chi come up to me. "Why didn't you tell me?" It was a simple question, but it pulled at my heart.
"I didn't think of it." Chi seemed hurt at my response, but acted seemingly against her heart when she replied.
"Then I'll come with you when you go home. That, or you come with us."
Haruhi came up. "As much as I would prefer traveling with you guys, Cu is right. It's better to have one last night as a group. We can say good-bye in the morning, and go our separate ways around noon. It's late, too. Ivy and I can get wood, and Chi, you can light it on fire. We'll stay up late tonight." She nodded at me, and we wandered away. I had a feeling there was more to this, and I was right.
"So, where are you going? North, west, south, east? You should always be able to 'feel' where your trainer is."
I stopped for a second. There was a light tug towards the north east. I had mistaken it for a light breeze. Instead of telling her, I simply asked, "How do you know?"
Smiling, she answered "I have... a backstory. Like any pokemon." Our conversation jumped about, until Haruhi suddenly asked, "What's it like to be in love? Does it hurt, or feel like something else entirely?
"Well, when they don't see, it can be painful. After you tell them, it's like a weight just fell off of your sholders. For the most part, it's like a nest of weedle and buterfree live in your stomach." Her look did not look understanding.
"Doesn't sound comfortable."
"It's not. Really, anyone can feel it." We walked back into our little camp, bundles of fallen wood balanced on our backs. Frostbite looked away from me when he took mine, but Haruhi 'accedantaly' kicked him when he pretended not to notice me. No one asked what happened in the short while when we were alone, but seemed more uninterested about morning. The fire burned tall, lighting up the woods with a friendly glow. The night was short still, and morning came too fast. The hot ash was no comfort, but neither were the glum faces of my friends. Chi gave us all a map from her '5 slot' inventory.
"Meet me here every year, on the second day of spring." Soon after, we separated. Leaning on Frostbite, I gave a tear freedom.
"I don't know why love is unknown. Every pokemon has a heart. We each have the ability to love, fall apart, and love again. We can all learn, all we have to do is find the key to unlock someone's heart." Frostbite looked at me, a shaft of sunlight blocking everything but his shillouette from me.
"My key was rusty, for it to take so long."
"Well, it works now." He kissed me again, and all I could do was give it back.
