Me: I'm back, everyone! After two months of school and role playing, I've returned to FanFiction to work on stories!

Master Chief and Thel 'Vadam: NO!

Me: YES! And I plan to get a lot of torture done now! And, someone wanted to know what happened to Hyak. Now, you'll all find out... (maniacal laughter as Thel and MC sneak up and tackle me)

Chapter Twelve

After Hyak had left the demon and his AI companion, he made his way through the Holy City, silent enough so that no one saw him. In the short time he'd been gone, much had changed. Where Sangheili once stood guard, Juralhanai now stood as statues. The meek grunts wandered in shivering groups, and the feral jackals snapped at every living thing. Even the normally aggressive hunters were surprisingly calm as they made their way around without constriction.

A trio of familiar shapes made their way to the center of the city, where the Phantoms were based until needed. Hyak snarled under his combat helmet, following the two prophets and Tartarus in the shadows. His eyes turned serpentine in anger, and it took all his will to not charge forward and draw his energy sword.

"Tartarus," Truth said, loud enough that Hyak could hear from a distance away, "take the icon, and activate the sacred rings. The Brutes will be amongst the first to make the great journey, should you succeed." He held up a glowing, key-like object, and the massive brute took it. The Prophet of Mercy frowned slightly, and Truth noticed. "Is something the matter?"

"No," was the simple response. Mercy seemed to be doubting something, but said no more as the small trio continued onward, the platform in sight. A single sangheili stood by a Phantom, waiting in cobalt armor.

Apparently, more time had passed than Hyak had thought, seeing Orion in a tactician's armor. The human elite hissed under his breath, staying out of sight as the elite grinned.

"I thought you would never make it," Orion snickered at the approaching trio. He looked Tartarus in the eye, and the brute snorted.

"Just because you mantain rank when the others of your kind have become as low as the grunts, does not make you special." Tartarus leaned down, and Orion didn't even flinch. "If I did not respect the Prophets, I would smash you to bits at this moment."

"Then I should count myself as lucky. And I am glad to be of service for the Prophets."

Mercy looked around in silence as Tartarus and Orion looked to Truth, who began to speak softly so even Hyak's keen hearing could not assist. The former shipmaster looked to Mercy, and their eyes made contact, even through the helmet. Raising a finger, Hyak made a sign to keep the prophet silent, and recieved the faintest of nods. Moving in silence, Hyak approached from the shadows, making certain that only Mercy could see him.

Tartarus looked to Mercy at that moment, and let out a roar as he saw Hyak. "Sangheili scum! I'll crush you!" He swung his massive hammer, barely missing the teen as he jumped to the side, pulling out his energy sword.

"That's no Sangheili, that is the human vermin!" Orion fired a plasma bolt at his rival, sending the helmet sliding across the platform and off th edge, leaving the boy exposed. Hyak scowled, eyeing both the elite and Tartarus as they began to move closer, trying to block him off from the Prophets. "You are supposed to be dead!"

"Sorry to disappoint, then. I happen to be against the Great Journey now, so I made sure to survive after the Honor Guard that served under me were murdered." In a blur, the human elite struck at Orion, kicking Tartarus in the jaw.

His leg was grabbed by the brute before he could move. "Your chance to live was waisted, then, human!" Tartarus lifted Hyak up and punched his gut, and Hyak cried out in pain, vision blurring as blood began to fill his mouth. Another fist to his side nearly had him unconscious, and he grimaced in pain. "What, no comments, insect? You're about to die, and have nothing to say! That is as a coward would do!"

"It was nice to know you, Hyak." The human made a faint panting sound as his vision spun, and a plasma rifle was held to his face. Orion grinned malevolently, finger on the trigger. "Good bye."

Mercy cried out in pain, and Tartarus dropped Hyak in surprise. Orion did not shift his gaze from the human. Despite nearly losing all consciousness, Hyak could still see Mercy, with a warped, disgusting creature attached to his throat, trying to consume him. Tartarus made a move to pull it away, but Truth held up his hand, stopping the brute.

"The Great Journey must go on. Those not worthy, even a fallen Prophet, must be left behind. Tactician, get me to the temple. Tartarus, activate the rings." Truth moved onto the Phantom, and Tartarus boarded a seperate one, taking off to some unknown location. Orion scowled down at Hyak before putting away his weapon.

"I'll kill you the next time we meet, Hyak 'Vadam. Don't think I won't." He slammed his hoof down hard on the human's chest, causing him to cough more blood. Orion smirked with his four jaws slightly splayed as he stepped back. "Make sure you don't die so I can kill you." The elite boarded the Phantom with Truth and started it. The Phantom took off, hovering above the platform fora few moments before it took flight to a large and thin structure on the opposite side of the Holy City.

Hyak groaned in pain, vision fading as he raised an arm, as if to grab the air craft. His arm fell at his side as some more blood began to drip from between his clenched teeth, and his sight swam. He mouthed a small phrase, unable to find his voice, before he lost consciousness, lying deathly still upon the platform.

Me: Oh shoot! That is nuts!

Thel: Is it wrong to say that I feel concern for that human?

Me: OMG! THEL HAS FEELINGS!

Master Chief: I wish I had my gun so I could shoot you both...
