Me: I'm still here! Yay!

Thel and Rtas: As are we...

Master Chief: I'm getting used to it here. Might as well do that disclaimer for once. Reader does not own Halo.

Chapter Fifteen

Hyak grumbled in the human base. About two days had passed since the Phantom had landed. He'd been seperated from the others due to his injuries, and had yet to see Rose or Gilc. His abdomen was bandaged tightly, but the clothes, they felt too loose on him compared to his body suit and armor.

He wandered into a large room, and all the eyes turned to him. It was full of tables with built on benches, something that wasn't very ineresting. But he couldn't help but sniff the air, the smell of food making him drool a little. Most of the eyes loked away, but whispering replaced those that did. Obviously, two days made him well known amongst the humans, already, and his height did not help.

Hyak wandered past a table, and a few women laughed at something as he passed. A hand wrapped around his wrist, and his instincts kicked in. Sadly, he didn't have any weapons, except his fist. Twisting around, he pulled back his arm, ready to punch the person in the face. To his surprise, it was an man that stood just inches shorter. His face was stern, which caused the teen to lower his fist.

Letting go, the man crossed his arms. He tilted his head to the doors Hyak had just come through, and left. Hyak glanced around quickly before following. The man stood just outside the room, waiting calmly.

"You're the one everyone is starting to call the Human Elite, I take it."

"That is all my reputation is," Hyak asked, speaking his near fluent English."I deserve more."

"Trust me, it's bad enough that you shouldn't be wandering around. I spoke with Sergeant Akiva about you." At Hyak's confusion, the man sighed. "Her name is Rose Akiva. SHe's the one that brought you here."

"And that makes you, who exactly?"

"Admiral Hood is who you'll refer to me as, soldier. You know, if you and that elite weren't being protected by Sergeant Akiva, you both would have died the moment this base saw you. Be glad you have someone who wants you alive."

Hood didn't scowl, but his stern expression still persisted. If he'd been just a little shorter, Hyak wouldn't have felt any intimidation. Instead, he had to actualy think about his breathing to keep himself from shivering under the gaze.

"Hyak!" Rose raced down the hallway from behind Hood, and the admiral stepped to the side as she near tackled the human elite. Hyak grimaced in pain as his injured gut was crushed. "What are you doing out in the hall? You should still be resting from those injuries."

Hood said nothing as he left, and Hyak looked down at the girl, a good head and a half shorter than himself still. "I wouldn't need to rest if you weren't making the wound hurt so much." Rose let go of him, and the taller teen noticed a faint pink shade to her cheeks. His head tipped to the right slightly, and the shade deepened.

Rose shook her head, blinking. "You know, this place is pretty much the reverse of that city of yours. There, I was the one targetted. Here, your the target. It's a bit ironic, if you think about it."

"I noticed. And, I guess that the other humans have made a reputation for you?"

Rose's blush returned with a fury at the mention. She started to stumble over her words, making Hyak even more confused than before. She hadn't once done something like that in the Holy City. After about ten attempts of saying what was on her mind, Rose calmed her breathing and looked just to Hyak's left, avoiding his eyes.

"Apparently, some of the other marines have a theory that I brought you here because we, um..." Her voice trailed off, and Hyak understood what she'd been meaning to say, based off how red she was. The thought caused him to burst into laughter.

She glared at him, punching his shoulder and grabbing his wrist. She started to drag him back to his room as marines left the cafeteria they were by, not wnating to be the center of attention.

It was a five minute walk, and when they finally made it back, Rose pushed Hyak back onto his bed, forcing him to lie back. He raised an eye brw as he propped himself on his elbows, watching as she got a cup from a cupboard, using a sink in the adjoining room to fill it. She placed a hand on her hip, fingers tapping in irritation at the sight of him propped up, and he smirked, much like he had when she flipped him over the furniture in his father's abode.

She put on a scowl, placing the cup of water on a small metal table by Hyak's head. "Hyak, you really need to lay down. You'll never get healled if you don't give yourself some rest. And that will mean you can't get back to fighting this war. I know that those elites are into honor, and I think staying out of the fight wouldn't be honorable for you."

He looked at her for a moment, before he sighed. "Fine. But, first, you have to do one thing for me."

"And exactly what would that b-" He sat up, and his lips met hers. Her shock was immense, and, even after he plled away a few seconds later, she was frozen to the spot.

"Now there is some truth to that rumor. But, not enough to make people want to hurt me more." He lied back, hands behind his head, and shut his eyes, breathing deeply. Rose touched her lips gently, like they were on fire, and stepped out of the room, shutting the door carefully. She leaned against the wall by the door, the shock wearing off lightly. One thought ra through her mind, and she couldn't help but smile.

Hyak had kissed her. And it wasn't a forced kiss, but a gentle, calm one.

Me: AGH! SO MUCH LOVE!

Master Chief, Rtas, and Thel: OH SHIT!

Me: You guys said it! This can't end good!
