Chapter Sixteen

Rose walked in the fittness room just as GIlc slammed a fist into a sand bag, causing the chain to break. He laughed, jaws splayed, and noticed the human woman behind him.

"Well, if it isn't Rose! I didn't think I'd see you for a while. What have you been up to?"

"Nothing much," she said, still smiling faintly at the thought of what had happened earlier. Gilc noticed, and crossed his arms. "What?"

"Something happened. I can tell by the way you're acting." Unable to help it, the sergeant laughed, shocking the Sangheili. He looked around, secretly glad they were alone. Drawing attention ws not on his list of things to do.

"Well, I was with Hyak, and something hapened."

"Care to clarify, because I'm a little lost. You two were together almost your entire time with the Covenant." Rose shrugged, still smiling. She quickly described what had happened between her and the human elite, and Gilc looked at her in utter shock.

His jaws moved soundlessly, and he simply pointed at her, an over his shoulder, as though Hyak was behind him. A nod caused him to groan and slap himself.

Before Rose could ask why Gilc had done such an act, a speaker system went off. "Sergeant Akiva, please report to the hangar platform. I repeat, Sergeant Akiva, report to the hangar platform."

"Guess I'm off. I'll talk to you later Gilc." Rose placd a hand on his shoulder and walked out, leaving him to sigh.

"This will not be good. If Hyak and Rose get together, things will not end well."

Thel stepped off of the human vessel, breathing in the air of the human's original planet. It was fresh, and he felt he could relax for once. Looking around, he saw that a number of humans were gathered.

Behind him, the two humans, Miranda Keyes, and the one called Johnson, coughed, making their way in front. Miranda held up a hand. "Don't worry. These elites mean no harm to us. The Arbiter has promised an alliance." She eyed him, before stepping off the Pelican. Johnson looked around, just as Thel had, and grinned at the sight of on human, pulling the smoking stick from his mouth.

"Well, I never thought I'd see you alive, Akiva! So that elite didn't kill you after snatching you away!" The Arbiter stepped off the Pelican behind Johnson, and saw exactly who the man was calling out to. He watched in boredom as Rose and Johnson crushed each other in with their arms, laughing. "How you doing, kid?"

"Fine, sir! Made it back to base just a couple days ago." Rose laughed again, but caught sight of Thel. Johnson followed her gaze, and patted her shoulder.

"That there is th Arbiter. He's doesn't seem to talk much." Thel sighed, shaking his head.

"We've met," he grumbled, and Rose chuckled nervously at the look Johnson gave her. "If you are here, does that mean Hyak is as well?"

She nodded, stepping away from the other sergeant. She wasn't armed, and wasn't in a uniform, rather in a plain set of cloths. She almost seemed at home, Thel thought. It made him twitch on the inside, seeing such a calm sight. Almost all of the humans were like that, but some still carried guns at their hips. Miranda looked back and motioned for Thel to follow her.

"We'll speak later." Thel started to walk, keeping a steady pace with Keyes.

Remaining silent the entire time forced his mind to Hyak, and the day he'd found the child that he called his son. The Arbiter shook his head in frustration, letting out a small grunt that the human female in front of him ignored. Hyak was in a human base, meaning he could possibly learn the truth of his past. If that were to happen...

Thel forced himself to stop thinking about it, and focus on the task at hand. He needed to form an alliance with the humans, and speaking to their leader would be the key to such an alliance.

Me: So Thel is back into the story. This is where the story converts from Halo 2 to Halo 3! Next time, we'll have some major trouble brewing! I just feel it!
