CHAPTER 4:
Ah-Un set the pair to the grassy floor below. It was no use trying to fly while Rin was in that kind of condition.
"Is it the baby?" Sesshomaru exclaimed with a bit of distraught in his voice. He had tried hard to get the two of them this far and wanted everything to run smooth as possible.
"He just kicked me a little harder than usual, "Rin was finally able to say after a couple of deep breaths. "There is nothing to worry about I will be just fine, she said with her signature beauty smile. Sesshomaru trusted that she was fine, but he didn't want to use air travel anymore since it seemed to make Rin very sick to the stomach. Though it could have just been that she was human carrying the heavy burden of a demon in her. But he never did think something like their child would ever be a burden, but more of a blessing.
Rin rode the back of the demon beast while Sesshomaru walked beside. It was almost as all hell broke loose upon the living. It was every once in a great step that they could hear the terror of screams ring in the air. Whether it be from the human and demons war, or a poor helpless soul being in the wrong place at the wrong time and being murdered in front of their loved ones eyes.
It didn't seem to phase the great demon in the very least, but Rin didn't like those screams. It reminded her too much of her own past so many years ago, seeing the death of her family and the massacre of a village by the wolves. She prayed for the lost ones in this bad time, and hoped their souls would find peace.
It was out of nowhere that the ground shook beneath them.
"An earthquake?!" Rin frantically asked. But the ground seemed to be rising up as a huge demon, that seemed to have been sleeping below, awoke from its slumber in a rampage.
Ah-Un was motioned to get Rin out of the way from the giant beast.
"Do your worst demon!" Sesshomaru said with a a half calm expression and tone as he drew his sword at the ready; no fear crossing his eyes.
"Watch out!" Rin said as she pointed to the tail of the beast. Its' scaly tail raising in the air and tried crashing upon the lords head. Sesshomaru was too quick and came crashing back at the demon slicing the head off of its' body.
All that attention the two demons caused from the fight stirred up the other surrounding demons and humans in the area. It became quite clear that they were no longer in the clear and had to take to the skies once again.
Sesshomaru hopped upon the back of Ah-Un as Rin grabbed a hold of his haori as the three sped off.
Looking back the humans began to the fight the demons, and the demons fought back. It escalated into a bloody mess.
Ah-Un was almost out of the clear when an explosion cracked from behind them and the great beast they rode began to screech in pain and moved about as their ascending escape turned into a free fall to the dusty grounds. Sesshomaru grabbed rin and jumped off of Ah-Un as he hit the floor.
"Ah-Un!" Rin exclaimed as she leapt from the safety of Sesshomaru's asms and fled towards the demon. It seemed that a couple of the bullets from the guns had hit Ah-Un on its side causing a rupture to one of its vital organs.
Rin shed a bit of tears as she saw how much pain Ah-Un seemed to be in. She had traveled with this very demon since the beginning and to see him slip away so fast she was getting more and more upset.
She didn't want to see anyone else around her die, but it seemed inevitable that Ah-Un was headed in that very direction.
She pet his neck, assuring Ah-Un that he was going to be okay.
Sesshomaru came from behind rin and squatted down next to her. It was unusual for Sesshomaru to be anywhere near the ground, but he would do anything for rin at this point. If it made her happy that he sat with her there next to the dying beast, then that is the path he would take for her to be happy.
It was after a couple of minutes that Ah-Un's breath slipped from its body. Rin had been trying to stop the bleeding coming from its stomach, but without the help of an actual healer there was absolutely nothing she would have been able to do.
Rin sat for a few moments more with her eyes closed and hands laying gently in her lap. She had the power to at least give Ah-Un a proper prayer.
Sesshomaru kept his eyes peeled on rin. He wouldn't move unless she was ready to move.
After a couple of more seconds passed Rin finally tried standing, in which Sesshomaru helped her to her feet.
The air around them was thick; Dirt on the ground and nothing green seemed to be growing at all. All they had left was each other, and they were so close to making it to the rumored crossing that they were going to make it for everyone who had passed; for those who had no chance for survival. At least that is what Rin believed for her to be doing.
"AGH!" Rin keeled over. Sesshomaru caught her so she could not hit the ground. She grasped her stomach in pain.
Sesshomaru carried her away from the open area and to a pile of fallen timber and set her so she would be able to lean against the bark.
"He's….coming…"Rin said with the grinding of her teeth. It was an intuition that Rin had, and it was indeed time for their child to come. Sesshomaru was in complete shock; for the first time ever, not knowing what to do.
Rin reached her hand out and grabbed Sesshomaru's. Before he could say anything Rin let out another curdling scream.
He knew it was only a matter of time now before one of the enemy would hear them and come looking. Sesshomaru stayed knelt next to rin, but kept his nose and ears peeled to their surroundings.
It was only a matter of time.
