Chapter 5 - The Duke
"BoBo, are you sure Lauren didn't want to know?" Kenzi asked, putting her arms on the island counter in the kitchen. Bo, sitting on the other side and eating her cereal replied, "Yeah. I was going to tell her but she stopped me before I could finish my sentence."
The human gave her an uncertain look. "The way I see it, if my succubus girlfriend were sleeping with another person, I would want to know who it was," Kenzi stated. Bo sighed as she put down her spoon, "Yeah, I know. I already feel bad that I have to openly cheat on her."
Kenzi shrugged, "I know, being a succubabe sucks," she sympathized, although there was a hint of sarcasm.
"Exactly. I know it hurts Lauren and the fact that she didn't let me say who it was, tells me that. I don't know why she doesn't want to know but-"
"Then how about you ask her?" Kenzi suggested, popping a Reese's pieces into her mouth. Bo looked at her, then down at her cereal, uncertain.
"So, are you going to tell me about the other Fae you've been banging? You know, the other bitchy blonde?" the human asked suddenly.
"Um..." she began, giving a sheepish smile. She knew how much Kenzi didn't like Tamsin. Even more so than Lauren. Kenzi gave her a 'come on' look, before saying, "Bo. I have heard time and time again," she walked around the counter towards Bo, gently sliding a hand on her back, "what goes on in that bed room. I'm the one that has to call the repair guy to fix our ceiling."
"The sex is good," Bo said, shrugging. Kenzi gave her another look. "Okay, the sex is amazing but Tamsin's just there to get me healed and fighting again. Lauren and I agreed on no Dyson, so-"
"I get it. I mean, from what I've seen, she's good at what she does," Kenzi remarked. Bo nodded.
"I trust Tamsin and she's Dyson's partner so—"
"She's Dark Fae, Bo. Remember the last Dark Fae you were banging?" Kenzi interrupted.
"Remember the last time Lauren and I brought a random Fae home? And the time before that, Dyson and I almost died, and the time before that, you and I almost died. I don't know what it is, but I just attract really bad shit from strangers," Bo answered. Kenzi sighed, Bo could tell that her best friend was still uncertain.
Bo gave her best friend a resolute look, "She's good, Kenzi."
"Well, I know that. Shit, she's better than Dyson, and that's saying something, right?" Bo chuckled at the human's reply.
Bo drove over to Lauren's place, she was fully aware that she was still being punished. It's been about a week already, but Bo backed off. She pulled up into her driveway and made her way to her door.
She knocked before coming in. Lauren looked up from her microscope, as she frequently did whenever Bo walked in. "Hey," she said, going back to her work.
Bo smiled, "Hi. Whatcha up to?" The blonde chuckled, "Science-y stuff," she answered.
Bo nodded, "Good enough for me," she replied with a grin. She leaned on the counter, facing Lauren and thinking about how she was going to ask. Lauren noticed Bo's silence and looked away from her instrument. She noticed the look on Bo's face whenever she needed to say something.
"What's up?" she asked. Bo raised her eyebrows and sighed, "Nothing," she answered, shaking her head. But then added, "You're not curious?"
Lauren looked confused, furrowing her eyebrows, "Curious about what?"
Bo looked at her for a few seconds, seeing if Lauren would get what she meant. "About... who's healing me." Lauren paused, before taking in a breath and looking away, "No."
Bo nodded, she wanted to hear why, but Lauren's tone suggested that she was adamant. "It's just," Lauren began, putting a hand on her hip, "I already imagine you sleeping with someone else." The blonde gave Bo a hurt look but then looked away again, replacing it with a smile. But that smile disappeared too.
"I just... I don't want a put a name or a face to the stranger who's touching you. And, I know you have to do this. I know I'll never be enough for you so-"
"Lauren," Bo consoled as she stepped around the table and turning Lauren's body to face her. She placed her hands on her waist. "Lauren, you're all that I want," Bo said. Lauren chuckled, "I'm only human, Bo. The last time you tried being monogamous-"
Bo growled under breath, she wished people stop mentioning that. "I know. I almost died. Trust me, I wish I didn't have to do this. But, it's purely physical. Someone to get me healed," she assured. Lauren nodded as she gave into Bo's embrace. Lauren smiled, a genuine smile. Her girlfriend's words comforted her that much more and laid a little of her insecurities to rest.
Tamsin cracked her knuckles and growled at the man in her interrogation room. He had his muscular, tattooed arms crossed, his bald head reflecting the light and his dark eyes glaring at the blonde policewoman ahead of him. He lifted his chin defiantly.
"Listen, you little shit," she whispered dangerously low, "if you don't give up the names, the moment you get out of here, no one will remember yours." Dyson smirked as he had his arms crossed, leaning on the wall behind his partner. The bald guy broke a small sweat, but didn't budge. He glanced at Dyson.
"You don't want to piss her off today. She's had a really bad day," Dyson suggested to the man.
"Where are they now and where are they planning to go next?!" Tamsin shouted, slamming her fist into the metal table in front of the guy, denting the metal. The guy looked at the dent in the table and looked up. There was a flicker of fear in his eyes before it was gone and a smug smile replaced his features. "You can't hurt me."
A few moments, later they walked out of the interrogation room and Dyson was chuckling, "That was some performance," he admired. He looked back as a uniform took the guy out of the interrogation room. He was shaking his head and whispering to himself, a crazed look in his eyes. Tamsin shrugged, looking down at her case file, "He pissed me off."
Dyson nodded, "We need to get down to that club."
Tamsin was about to say she could do it alone but was interrupted.
"And there's no way you're getting in by yourself," he stated. Tamsin sighed, "Worried about me, partner?" she asked mockingly. "Not at all. The club is on the edge of Light Fae territory, you're not getting in without someone else," he replied. "And by someone else you mean you," she added. Dyson shook his head and a sly smile creeped upon his face, "Not me."
Tamsin looked at him, raising her eyebrows in confusion and about to reply with a snarky remark. "I'm banned from that club," he stated, "You're going in with Bo."
Tamsin's jaw almost dropped, "And isn't there another Light Fae I can go with?" she asked. Dyson sat in his chair and looked up at her, "Why?"
"Because it can be anyone but your ex-girlfriend," the blonde answered, throwing the case file on the desk and leaning against it.
"You're sleeping with her," he said, confused knowing Tamsin and Bo weren't best friends, but she seemed more defiant than usual. The Valkyrie rolled her eyes, "Doesn't mean I like her."
"And why's that?" he asked, poking at the sleeping dragon.
"She's still a bitch that thinks she can do whatever the hell she wants," the woman replied, getting into her seat across from her partner. Dyson raised his eyebrows at her response, implying he knew someone just like that. Tamsin growled, "At least I followed the rules and chose a side. I'm sick of hearing, 'The unaligned succubus, the unaligned succubus.'"
Dyson chuckled, "Jealous?" he asked. Tamsin scoffed, "Hardly, just extremely annoyed that everyone cleans up her shit after she's done."
The wolf didn't have a reply to that and instead shifted the focus, "You don't seem to be complaining about what you do with her."
Tamsin rolled her eyes, "It's not a big deal. Stop mentioning it," she growled. He smiled and jokingly replied, "Why, Tamsin, I'm not the one that needs to drop it. The Dal's the rumor mill."
"Yeah, well, it's not like the Light Fae's unaligned succubus came to the Dark side. So they can shut the fuck up about it," she muttered, picking up the file again to give her hands something to do.
"Well, Bo has been the favorite subject of the Fae ever since she refused to choose a side," he stated.
"And I bet you were her new puppy when she came around," she countered, putting her feet on her desk, not lifting her eyes from the file. Dyson learned to smile at Tamsin's remarks.
"And now you're her new Dark Fae battery charger," he replied. She shrugged, "And some how, I just don't give a fuck," she murmured, "At the end of the day, I'm just there to send her to her human doctor in one piece. She gets that, I get that. Nothing to talk about because unlike you, puppy dog, I don't get attached," she finished, getting up from her seat to fetch more coffee.
Bo sighed over the phone, "When do I have to meet her?" she asked. She nodded, "Fine. Yeah, I'll do it," she said before saying goodbye and hanging up the phone. Lauren looked at her curiously.
"Dyson needs me on a case," Bo said, leaving out the part of whom she had to meet.
"Okay, I'll see you tonight?" she asked. Bo smiled and leaned in to give her a kiss. "Of course," she replied with a smile.
Bo left and drove to her place. She had to get ready and arm up for the undercover mission she had to go on with Tamsin. The succubus arrived at her place and unlocked the door. However, when she closed it, she knew something wasn't right.
She quietly closed the door behind her and cautiously walked on the wood floor. She took her knife out of her boot and walked close to the wall. She peered through the gaps of wood in the wall and saw a figure in her kitchen. It was walking toward her. As soon as the figure was close, she came out hiding and pressed the figure against another wall, knife at their throat.
"You really know how to make an entrance," Tamsin growled, irritated at their position. She had a gun pointed at Bo's abdomen. Despite realizing it was the Valkyrie, Bo didn't remove the knife. "I do my best," she replied.
Tamsin's eyes challenged the succubus but after a few moments, Bo backed off and slid the knife back into her boot.
"When do we head to the club," Bo asked, taking off her jacket and hanging it.
"Our mark arrives at ten," the blonde replied. Bo made her way upstairs, Tamsin following her after a few moments. They entered her bedroom and Bo went straight to her closet, deciding on what to wear.
"Who's the mark?" the succubus asked as she took off her shirt.
"He calls himself the Duke. He has a close circle of friends that we need to infiltrate," Tamsin replied, glancing at Bo's body before crossing her arms and turning away. She feigned interest at the bed before sitting down. "The Duke? The Duke of what?" Bo asked, mocking the name.
"How do I look?" Bo asked, standing in front of the other woman. Tamsin looked at nodded in approval. The succubus wore her usual black. Tight pants and a revealing top that showed a good amount of cleavage. "We don't know. We don't have much on the guy, which is why we're collecting intel," the blonde replied. Tamsin got off the bed as she saw Bo walking toward the door.
"Don't tell me you're wearing that at the station," Tamsin scoffed. Bo smiled, "Would it bother you?" she asked, flirtatiously. The blonde raised her eyebrows, slightly amused. She stood up and walked toward the succubus until their faces were centimeters apart.
"No," she murmured before walking toward the door, "but it'll turn every head at the station and those boys have work to do," she finished over her shoulder. Bo smiled at her remark. Tamsin turned around to face the succubus.
"Our mark is a serious criminal. He's sparking up a new gang, but not just a street gang. He's organized and smart, which means he's dangerous. We also think he's Fae, but we're just not sure for which side," Tamsin crossed her arms as she briefed Bo on the case.
"Don't you guys keep track of which side your Fae are on?" the succubus asked as she walked out of the door.
Tamsin clenched her teeth as they walked down the stairs, "We do. But we don't know his name or where he comes from."
"And you need me to… what? Work the succubus magic and get some info?" the brunette asked. Tamsin smirked, "I need you to work your succubus magic, but I'll be getting the info."
Bo turned to face the blonde with an amused smile, "I didn't know you were into threesomes."
Tamsin shrugged, "You don't know a lot of things about me."
Bo chuckled, "I know the way you sound when I—"
"I'm still in the lead, baby Fae. Or do you still not remember?" Tamsin asked as she continued to walk past the succubus and down the last of the staircase. Bo rolled her eyes, "Our arrangement didn't start then. It doesn't count," she whined.
Tamsin chuckled, "Of course it does. You even came looking for me," she answered. Bo smiled sensing another challenge, "Well, we'll see about tonight. If this guy is such bad news and things turn nasty, another round would be in order."
"If things get bad, he won't be getting out of the club with his own two legs," the Valkyrie replied confidently, before heading toward the exit. Leaving a very amused succubus behind her.
