Chapter 27
I never thought I would find such pleasure in knowing I wouldn't have to deal with another entity before this very moment. Sam and his wife were leaving and although I was happy to meet some of the people from Leah's past I'd had my fill of Samuel Uley. I helped Edward and Jacob load the trunk of Carlisle's car and I practically sprinting to get the task accomplished. I went back for the last bag and Edward slowed me down.
"Slow down he's leaving you don't have to go through the dramatics." Edward patted me on the shoulder.
"That man still wants my girlfriend and I want him gone. I think that's a normal response from any man that loves his woman," I said honestly. Jacob shook and scratched his head.
"I just think it's weird that Sam can even see Leah in that way. It makes me wonder how strong the bond of an imprint really is and if it can be broken," Jacob mused and then Ness came out and he went into his normal trance. She was talking to Shelly and Embry.
"I don't think you'll have that problem," Edward chuckled and then turned to me. I was ready to get that other bag. I agreed with Edward I didn't need to rush to get Sam out of Leah's sight, not if I trusted her, and I did. I trusted Leah with everything that I am. I went back inside and I watched as Leah's cousin clung to her and was sobbing again. Sam was standing there watching them. I took a deep breath and picked up the bag.
"Only a few more minutes," I whispered. I loaded the last bag and then phone rang it was Maria.
"Maria, hey," I quickly jogged to the back of the house for a little privacy.
"No, it's me Nahuel," Marisol uttered with a low depressed tone. "I figured you'd be home by now." My sister was never one to mince words.
"I thought Maria told you … I don't plan to come home for some time." There was a long silence between us. "I will come back and then you can meet my Leah." I waited for a response and was greeted by more silence. "You still there?"
"Yeah, Nahuel … I thought you were there for Renesmee and that she rejected you. Who is this Leah character?"
"She's my …," I started to say she was my girlfriend but the word didn't seem strong enough, plus she was more than that. "Leah is my everything … and we're getting married."
"WHAT! You can't be serious! Nahuel you're not marrying a human that's disgusting!" Marisol snapped and I growled under my breath.
"Watch what you say Mari," I warned her.
"What are you talking about Nahuel? I think you're the one who's lost their mind! I'm sure this Leah girl is cute, but marriage? Come on, give me a break! In this case you need to be a little like our father, go ahead and do what you've got to do with her and then come home. Any love you feel for her will fade once she starts to wrinkle," Marisol said dryly. God, she was so blunt and I really wanted to reach through the phone and strangle my own blood.
"Look Leah is not disgusting nor is she human so don't worry about her wrinkling." I heard the car start up that meant Leah's ex was finally leaving and things would go back to normal.
"She's not human? They made another vampire or … did you turn her?" Marisol asked logical questions that for some reason I felt uncomfortable answering. I don't why it wasn't like I was embarrassed by what Leah was, I was actually fascinated by it.
"Look Marisol, we can talk about all this later. I've got to go love you!" I hung up on my ever inquiring sister and returned to my present life. I watched as my Leah waved at Carlisle as he drove away with her friends and family. I was sure it had to be hard on her so I wrapped my arms around her to support her.
"Are you sad to see them leave?" I asked and she leaned back into me.
"No, I'm just worried about my cousin. Her husband has a lot on his mind he needs to sort out." She turned to me and brushed her lips against my lips before leading me back into the house. She grabbed her backpack and began stowing her textbooks inside.
"Don't worry Leah, Sam will get it together. You ready for school?" I looked over to Leah and she'd become entranced I couldn't for the life of me figure out why. I watched her for a moment and waited for her to regain her focus.
"Uh yeah, I guess so," she said once she shook her head and rejoined the land of the living. She pouted and she put her bag on her shoulder. "I have a bad feeling about today though. It's torturing me!" She sat down on the bed which was the opposite of what she needed to be doing.
"Okay, now you're starting to sound like Alice," I chuckled but I was a little concerned by her demeanor.
"I know I sound crazy, but I can't help it." I watched as she fidgeted with one the buttons on her blouse close to her chest. I think she was deciding whether she wanted wear it unbuttoned. I know I'd rather she leave it closed no need for the immature beings at that school to see what's mine. "I just would feel a lot safer if we all stayed home today." I kneeled in front of her and ran my hands along her thighs.
"We can't Leah just stay home Carlisle wouldn't approve," I said softly. "Everything is going to be fine." Leah scoffed out a chuckle.
"I hope you're right. I just know if I were Alice it wouldn't be a problem if we skipped today," she grouched.
"You're right you aren't Alice, but personally I like you better." I kissed her on the top of her head. She gave me her sweet bashful little smile. She finally got up and wrapped her arms around me.
"Oh really," she said seductively and she rubbed her nose against mine. God, I it took literally a few seconds to fall under her spell.
"Leah," I groaned, she peppered kisses around my face. "We have to go." I slowly removed grip around my neck and pulled her towards the door. It wasn't that I didn't want to spend the day at home especially now that the others were gone. I just knew that we'd already been out of school while they were here. I was sure Leah's concern was only because she was a little down because her friends and family were gone. I figured going to school would distract her mind from missing them. I hoped I was right. The others seemed to go back into wedding mode and were quick to force Leah into the mode of thinking. Alice and Shelly pretty much consumed Leah with their talks of this lands tradition for weddings. I tuned most of their conversation out, but I did chime in about when we were planning to get married. I chose June because I knew that we'd have time to travel over the summer. I wanted some alone time with Leah and I wanted some the opportunity for her to travel to where grew up. I watched as my Leah twirled her ring between her fingers as the others talked. It was the little things she did that let me know how much she cares. I kissed her hand before we all loaded in the car to head to school.
"I love you," I mouthed she could see me in the side mirror and she mouthed the same.
