Chapter 21: I Take WTF is going on for 300
"Move you fucking idiot!" The Valkyries nerves were blank. The entire way to Toronto seemed like it only consisted of traffic jams, accidents or nature crossing her way. Whenever she decided to take another way a new obstacle was thrown in her way. Now it was a simple traffic jam in the middle of Toronto.
"One damn kilometer. ONE! Are you fucking kidding me?" Tamsin was done. Not caring she turned of the engine and left her truck. Running she would be faster. Flipping the angry drivers behind her she started to run.
In her anger she didn't see the person crawling out of her backseat. Following her silently like a shadow.
A short run later she came to a stop in front of a club. Loud music was booming through the front doors. Without being distracted by the half dressed women and men in the club she went straight to Vex's office.
"Where is she?!" Tamsin growled.
"My my. A little feisty today, aren't we?" the Mesmer smirked. Only a second later he was pressed against the wall.
"I don't have time for pleasantries or your stupid attitude. Just tell me..."
Before the Valkyrie could tighten her grip, her control was slipping. Roughly she was sat down. Fighting the control was fruitless.
"I risked my arse getting the information, telling you and you just barge in to my club and threaten me? That isn't very polite Tamsin, isn't it?"
"I don't have time for this shit. Just tell me you have her or know where she is"
"Oh that's the reason for the rush? Well.. then we don't have to hurry darling."
"What?"
"Things have become a little complicated..."
Fury was rising in the Valkyrie. "What do you mean by 'complicated'" she said through gritted teeth.
"We don't have her... But we know where she is... The assassin failed but when I turned up the girl was gone... We only found another girl. Foul mouth... You want to talk to her? She is in the backroom."
"You said you know where Lauren is. So what is the problem? Why don't we just take her? Start an attack?"
"This is where things get complicated honey... You have to know that..."
-.-.-.-.-
The blonde regained conscious just slowly. She felt sore and tired. Opening her eyes was more difficult than she had anticipated and when the task was finally done a bright light blinded her. The smell of sanitizer was tingling in her nostrils. Her heart rate became faster. After blinking a few times she saw her surroundings. A small room with bright white walls. A thin blanket was thrown over her chilling. Where the hell was she? She felt the panic building up in her. The last thing she remembered was the attack. The Attack... Kenzi, Dile! Lauren jumped up ready to leave the bed when a soft hand stopped her.
"Everything is fine now Lauren. You are safe." An older woman said.
"Who are you, where the hell am I?" To say that Lauren was scared, was an understatement. She was terrified. Her body shaking, muscles ready to strike when necessary.
"My name is Doctor Everett. I am the head physician at the light fae compound here in Toronto. Nobody is going to hurt you here. We are the good guys Lauren. I understand that you are scared after what you went through but you can trust me"
"I don't trust anyone, especially not you fae" Lauren yelled. "Whenever something bad happens the fae are involved and how do you know my name?"
Dr. Everett smiled. "I guess you probably won't remember me. How could you. You were just a baby when I last saw you." At the confused look of Lauren the doctor continued. "I was with your mother when you were born. I was the only one present beside your mother and... well doesn't matter. I was only one your mother trusted to help, to know about you."
"How so?" Lauren asked suspiciously.
"She was my mentor. I was her student for over 4 centuries. She taught me everything I know and I never betrayed her trust in me. I was with her, day and night and we lived through so many things. I was only twenty years old when she had decided to take me in. An honor not many were bestowed on."
"Yeah nice story, but you know what? I don't believe you. In the last few weeks I was told so many lies and half truths I hardly trust someone who appears out of nowhere telling me they knew my mother. Besides... 400 years? Yeah sure. So you want to tell me she was what? 500? 600 hundred years old?"
The Dr. chuckled. "My dear child it seems like you have no idea... 600 hundred years... silly... two millenia would be more fitting... Looks like you are completely oblivious to who your mother was... oblivious to your heritage."
"Could you people just stop talking around those things? Why doesn't anyone explain things to me. Everything not just tidbits... deciding what I should and what I shouldn't know!"
"Because it isn't our place to tell. And even if I wanted to... There is so much unknown... There are only a few people who know the entire story. And none of those I know of would tell you out of fear..." The blonde felt anger rising up in her, causing the air around her vibrate.
Before anything escalated the door opened. "Hey Doc everything alright I felt... Whoa good morning girl, ya up? Thank god... I feared Trevor had hit to hard. Damn idiot. Should kick him again for that stupid move. If I had been faster... But that douche acts before thinking. With Dyson that would have never happened. Maan I miss that dude" At hearing Dysons name Laurens anger vanished.
"Did you just say Dyson? Wolf shifter? Affinity for milk and leather vests?"
"Yep that sounds like the D-man. You know him?"
"I... no.. no I don't" Stupid move Lauren. Don't let them get any ideas.
"If you say so kiddo.." He grinned. "Oh by the way... Name's Hale. Sorry again for the bump on the head, wasn't me but I should have watched Trevor closer. At least the Ash wasn't happy about it and kicked his ogre ass in to the dungeons. The last time I worked with one of those. Mean punch but stupid as shit" the blonde couldn't help but smile at the man. Something about him told her he was honest and she decided not to hate him, but the smile was immediately gone when she remembered who she left behind.
"Where is Kenzi? Is she ok?"
"Kenzi? You mean that human girl who was with ya? Brought her to a human hospital to be sure."
"You what?!" Lauren screamed.
"Whoa calm down kiddo. Random humans are not actually welcome here, kay?" Lauren stared daggers at him.
"He is right Lauren. The only humans having access to the compound are slaves or so called VIPS, humans in high positions working with the Ash. Your friend will be fine. I promise. Not everyone would have dropped her of at the hospital. Some might have used her as a... food resource. Our dear Mr. Santiago is one of the few who actually respects humans unlike many traditional, century old fae."
"You make me all sick." Lauren shook her head. She could never be like one of them. Who did those Fae think they were? Gods? No living creature had the right to feel god like. She didn't know then how close she was to actually be one.
"Why were you even in that house?"
"Got a call from Trick, the keeper of the waystation here in town. Said dark fae were about to attack a young light fae pre dawning and I thought, hey why don't I check this out. He was pretty urgent about it. So I had to abandon my beer and immediately went to that house. Trevor, the brute, going in first and well.. he thought you were a threat and knocked you out... Brought you here and the Doc took good care of you, never leaving your side." Dr. Everett smiled at that.
Lauren sighed. She felt overwhelmed with everything. She wondered how Knezi was, if Ivy was alright or Bo missed her an she even thought about Dyson. So he lived here before? Maybe she shouldn't trust that fast but knowing that his former partner "saved" her was a little reassuring.
"I'm a little tired... If you don't mind I'd like to sleep. Alone."
"Sure kiddo. Just happy you are ok" Hale said and left the room.
"I will let you rest for a while. You need the strength and a clear head. You'll need for what is about to come. Regain your power. There is much you have to learn. Many things I have to teach you... Just be ready" the doctor said and was gone before Lauren could do anything.
Defeated she sank down in to her pillow. She hadn't slept this comfortable for weeks but she couldn't really enjoy it. Too many questions were nagging her. Blocking them out for once she eventually closed her eyes and fell into a dreamless sleep.
When she slowly woke up she felt a weight on her chest. Startled she opened her eyes just to see a familiar ball of fur curled up on her chest.
The cat happily enjoyed the ministrations of the blonde and purred contently.
"I see you have finally managed to sneak in Imamu." Dr. Everett addressed the cat while walking into the room. The kitten answered with a meow and a look that was almost cheeky for a cat.
"He is very fond of you. Haven't seen something like this for a long time. For a spirit to bond like that... Wow.. remarkable"
"Spirit? Bond?"
"You thought he was a normal kitten, I guess..." the doctor sighed. "Let's just say he is special. I will tell you soon but first I have to tell you something else. Something you can't tell anyone..."
A/N: Imamu = Spiritual Guide (Swahili)
