I looked down to see Iwo Jima rushing towards us. Even at 10,000 ft. it still looked menacing, and disgusting. "Thing looks like a burnt pork chop." Rogers said over the comms. "Hooah." I replied. Finally we hit 2,000 ft. and we deployed our chutes and glided down safely to the southern half of the island. "Shadow 1, Shadow 2. Feet dry over." I radioed Wilekns and Howard to say that Rogers and I were in place. "Shadow 2, Shadows 1 and 3 feet dry as well. Proceed with caution to recon objectives. Over." Came his reply. "Let's move." I motioned to Rogers as we both cloaked and proceeded towards our first objective. Upon nearing the objective we went into a low crawl to further avoid detection. Rogers and I then utilized his sniper scope and our helmet optics to photograph what looked to be a reconstruction of one of the two airfields that had once been here. "Rin, Shadow 2, are you seeing this, over?" I radioed Rin back in the C-130. "Yeah, and it looks like they're planning for an air strike of some sort." Rin said back. "Hey Corporal take a look at that." Rogers said pointing to what looked to be a bomber of some sort. "Teto, what exactly are we lookin' at?" Rogers radioed his assistant. "Looks like a TU-160 Blackjack bomber." She replied. "Where in the hell would they have gotten their hands on a Russian bomber like that?" Rogers said in confusion. "The real question is what they're planning to do with it…" I said. We then noticed several more aircraft on the airstrip as well, several MIG-29 fighter jets among them. "These guys are much more heavily armed then we thought." I said worried. "If they've got all these jets and ordinance what's stopping them from attacking U.S. soil?" Rogers asked suspiciously. "I don't know, but I don't like it." I said in response. "Shadow 2, Shadow 1. Report, over." Wilkens called over the comms. "Shadow 1, Shadow 2. Enemy has acquired several MIG-29 fighter jets, as well as a TU-160 Blackjack bomber. Airstrip appears to be operational, but no confirmation of their intentions yet. Over." I replied. "Acknowledged. Re-group at Rally point Alpha. Over." He said. I nodded to Rogers and we both moved out to rally with the rest of our team. Finally we regrouped and Wilkens and Howard shared some alarming news with us. "We saw several guys in hazmat suits wheelin in some crates with nuclear symbols on them." Howard explained. "And with what you two found this could be very bad…." Wilkens said. Immediately I assumed the worst. "Rin, are those TU-160's capable of carrying a nuclear payload?" I asked over the comms. "Standby…..yes! Twelve Raduga Kh-15 short range nuclear missiles in fact!" she responded. "This can only mean they're lookin' to attack the U.S. with a nuclear strike." I said. "Which means we gotta take out Hasegawa now!" Rogers said. "Alright team, let's move into the tunnel system. Neru, can you give us some intel on Hasegawa's location?" Wilkens radioed Neru. "I'm showing him in the center of Mt. Surabachi! Go get him!" Neru responded. "Alright team let's move, but keep it silent until we reach Hasegawa!" Wilkens ordered. With that, we cloaked and infiltrated the tunnel system. We crept past most of the terrorists with ease, and dispatched a few of the loners with our knives and suppressed weapons. Finally we reached the central command room where Hasegawa was said to be located. We stacked on the door, and readied our weapons. Wilkens gave me the nod, and I kicked in the door before he tossed a flashbang and burst into the room with the rest of the team behind him. We killed several more of the Red Dragons that we had encountered before, but Hasegawa was nowhere to be found. "Neru, there's no sign of the HVI. What have you got for us?" Wilkens radioed his assistant. I examined a few photographs that were hanging beside a map of the U.S. I saw that several places had been marked on the map, but what startled me the most was that places such as Oahu in Hawaii and the Las Vegas strip had been marked on the map. "Sarge, you need to have a look at this." I motioned to Wilkens. "They're targeting several places in the U.S. including….my god, including our base!" I said noticing a photograph of our facility. "Team, I've got Hasegawa! He's heading for the bomber!" Miku suddenly called over the comms. "Let's go!" I yelled as I tore off out of the tunnel system. The breach had alerted most of the terrorists to our prescense, so now we were running and gunning our way through the island. We just barely made it out in time to see the bomber heading down the runway. We killed the terrorists at the airstrip and attempted to stop the bomber, but it was no use. It was already airborne. "Dammit! That bastard has a full nuclear payload! He's gonna raze the U.S. to the ground!" Rogers screamed in frustration. I then turned my head and saw that one of the two MIGs was still present. I guessed that we had killed the pilot before he was able to board it. But it still had a full combat load and was just sitting there. Then I made my decision. "You guys destroy anything they have left to throw at us here on the island. I'll go after Hasegawa." I said pointing to the MIG. "John, you're not actually thinking about going after him in that thing are you?" Rin said over the comms. "There's no other option! We're out of time!" I said in desperation. "Alright Adams, you go after the bastard. We'll mop up here, and extract once the demo is complete, but you watch yourself up there!" Wilkens said. "Roger!" I responded as I headed for the MIG. We had all received flight training during our initial WARRIOR training before our augmentations. Thanks to our combat chips, we had been able to learn everything at a much faster rate than a normal human, and we had all become proficient fighter, helicopter, and bomber pilots. I just hoped that it would all pay off now. "Rin, I need all intel you can give me on the MIG-29 Fulcrum fighter. This sure as hell ain't the F-16 I trained on!" I said climbing into the cockpit. "Transmitting data to your suit now. This should help you out." She replied. As I climbed in I noticed something strange. "That's weird…." I said. "What's weird?" Rin asked over the comms. "These markings on the instrument panels, they're all in Chinese! These guys must have gotten these planes from the Chinese air force!" I said. "Noted. I'll make sure that gets sent up to the brass." Rin replied. I strapped in and started the engines as Wilkens guided me out onto the runway. He snapped off a salute as I rolled past him. I returned the salute, and slammed the throttle forward and roared down the runway. The afterburners kicked in, and quickly I was airborne. "Shadow 2 airborne, moving to intercept enemy bomber." I said over the comms. I then turned on the plane's radio systems to try and pick up any radio chatter from the bomber. I knew I'd have to be cognizant of the other MIG I was sure was escorting Hasegawa's bomber. Finally the two planes came into view. I then heard Hasegawa's voice over the radio. "WARRIOR, if you think you will be able to halt my mission, you are greatly mistaken! America will yet pay for its sins, and your cities will burn in nuclear fire just as ours did!" He then said something in Japanese, and the other MIG peeled off. "Careful, that other MIG is headed for you!" Rin called over the comms. "Roger, I'm trackin' him!" I responded. I then wheeled around to confront the other MIG. As we passed each other, I made a hard turn to get on his tail, but it was no good. "This guy's good! He knows what he's doing!" I said in frustration. We rolled, dived, twisted, and climbed trying to get the upper hand for what seemed like an eternity, but finally I was able to obtain a good firing position on his tail. I tracked him, and then finally got a solid missile lock. "Good tone! Fox 3!" I called over the comms indicating a radar guided missile launch. I watched as the missile sped towards the other MIG and then blew it out of the sky. "Splash one!" I called indicating a kill. "That's a confirmed kill on radar! Good shooting John!" Rin called. "Now to deal with Hasegawa!" I said. I banked and put the MIG into position behind the bomber ensuring I had enough distance between myself and it if the nukes were detonated. "Fox 3!" I called as I released another radar guided missile. This time however, the missile veered off course and missed the TU-160 completely. "American fool! You'll find your weapons are quite useless against this bomber! Your dear friend Kagamine left an in-genius missile jamming device when he fled like a coward! Now it will be used for the demise of you all!" Hasegawa taunted. "Rin, does that mean that even our cruise missiles can't track this thing?" I asked. "Hang on a sec while I analyze it….yes it does. Tomahawks, Sparrows, not even heat seeking missiles are going to work against it!" she said in desperation. "Then we'll have to try something else…" I said as I throttled up and closed the distance between myself and the bomber and opened fire with the MIG's cannon. Rounds ripped into the bomber's engines and wings, but it was somehow still aloft. Even worse was the fact that I was now out of ammo for the cannon. "You see, you will not stop me! I thought you all would have learned that lesson after my agent Cho killed Dr. Kagamine!" Hasegawa said. "Rin there's gotta be something else we can throw at him!" I said frantically. "There's not! Unless he were to collide with something, that bomber's staying airborne!" "Then I guess I need to give him his MIG back…." I said. "John, what are you saying!?" "I'm saying that this MIG still has two radar guided missiles, two heat seeking missiles, and a full tank of aviation fuel. If it were impact the bomber it'd be enough to bring it down!" I said. "John don't!" Rin pleaded. "I love you Rin. Wish me luck." "NO!" I heard her scream as I pushed the throttle forward. At the last second before impact though, I hit the ejection seat and was catapulted from the jet safely away from the resulting blast. "Shadow 2, are you receiving over?" I heard over the comms. "Shadow 2! John answer me please!" I heard Rin plead. I was falling through the air and fumbling for my reserve chute that I had held onto just in case. "John!" I heard her yell again. At that moment the chute opened, and I began to drift down slowly. "Shadow team, Shadow 2, splash 2! I say again, the HVI is down!" I then heard much cheering over the comms, and a sigh of relief from Rin. "I thought I lost you…." Rin said as if she were crying. "I'm not going anywhere babe. Not now, not ever." I said comfortingly. "Shadow 2, Shadow 1, that was a hell of an airshow! Demo is complete, and all hostiles have been neutralized. Mission is a success! Give me a sit-rep on your status over." Wilkens called. "Shadow 1, Shadow 2, I could use a ride home….and possibly a towel too…" I said as I looked down at the sea rushing towards me. "Acknowledged Shadow 2. Oscar Mike. Out." Wilkens replied. I landed in the sea and activated my emergency beacon as well as the suit's floatation system. A few minutes later, the rest of the team picked me up in a V-22 Osprey and we headed for home. "Hell of a job man!"Rogers said patting me on the back. "You showed that bastard for sure!" Howard added. "I think we can all say for certain we couldn't have done this without you Adams!" Wilkens said. "Couldn't have done it without ya'll!" I said celebrating with my team.
