In the days that followed the operation we analyzed the information we had recovered from the island, and prepared for our next mission, whatever it was to be. I spent as much time with Rin as I could during this break, and prayed that the love we had would last forever. "Do you ever think about the future at all?" Rin asked me one evening as we sat atop the air control tower, just like we had the day we confessed our feelings for each other. "What do you mean?" I asked. "What do see when you think about what might happen next?" she asked. "It's hard to say…" I said. "Why?" she asked. "Nothing is ever certain when it comes to that sort of thing. One minute you might see one thing coming, then another it's something completely different. It's like a game of chance, with almost nothing ever being definite." I said. Rin looked at me confused. "But even amongst all those things that are indefinite, I do know one thing that will always be definite in our future." I said. "What's that?" she asked. "Me and you." I said smiling. She returned my smile and kissed me softly. "No matter what the future does hold, I don't care as long I have you with me." Rin said her eyes glowing. "Same goes for me." I said in response. I held Rin close as she put her head on my shoulder. "Promise me that no matter what happens, you'll always be there?" she said. "Always." I said response. "I love you John." She said with a glow. "I love you Rin." I said. And so it was that we continued to affirm our love for each other, and hold and keep one another despite the harshness that we constantly faced. Even in a cruel and un-forgiving world, I knew that no matter what, Rin and I would always be together, just as I was sure that God himself had always intended it to be.
