Love To

Chapter 32:

"Is this girl Max has been talking about?" An older woman, about my mother's age came up wearing gear. She looked like an older Isabelle but instead of the steady dark eyes, she had Alec's crystal blue ones. Her long raven colored hair streaked with a touch of gray was tied up in a bun on top of her head.

"Yes, Mom, this is Clary." Jace smiled.

"Of course! You look so much like Jocelyn when she was your age. You've been the topic of Max's and I's conversations lately. He speaks highly of you. And I really want to thank you for spending time with him. His siblings tend to ignore him." Maryse shot a glare at Jace.

"Oh it's no problem Mrs. Lightwood. He's a really sweet and interesting boy. I like to chat with him." I smiled the 'impressing the parents' smile.

"That's wonderful and please do call me Maryse." She smiled and set a hand on my shoulder. "I suppose we should deal with him. Alec dear, will you have Magnus draw up a portal to the Silent City?" She hurried over to her other son.

"Job well done! You have impressed my adoptive mother. I never thought I'd see the day." Jace muttered in my ear. I heard my name and knew instinctively who it was and knew they would skin me alive. I turned slowly to see Mom and Luke making their way through the ten or more Shadowhunters standing around the room. My mother's face was flushed whether from the cold outside or anger.

"Clarissa Adele Fairchild! I should lock you in your room until your thirtieth birthday!" She huffed, sounding a bit winded. Luke took her place however, changing the ferocious voice of my mother to his quiet disappointed voice that he knew I absolutely hated.

"Clary, you know how much it scares your mother and I when you partake in dangerous plans. Please tell us you have good reason to do so?" He wrapped an arm around my mother's shoulder. I looked behind me to Valentine who was slowly getting up with the help of two younger Shadowhunters, maybe in their early twenties. Luke and Mom followed my gaze both paling. "Valentine" Luke seethed.

"Lucian and…" He glared at Luke but as his eyes trailed over to my mother they softened lightly. "Hello Jocie." His voice was rough.

"Valentine" She growled. "Come on Clary, we should go." She looked back to me and gasped. "Clary, why is there blood on your shirt?!" She turned back to Valentine and ran at full sprint, winding back and punching him square in the face. His head knocked back due to the impact. "I swear by the Angel Valentine, I will kill you if you touch my daughter again." He only laughed.

"Oh Jocelyn, she is as much my daughter as she is yours."

"Don't you dare! You could care less of who she is. She is just some war instrument too you, not a daughter. I won't let you take control of her as you did with Jonathan. Stay away from us ad rot in the cells of the Silent City along with that thing you made out of our son." She fumed. She came stomping back, grabbed my arm and started to pull me out the door. Meet me later I mouthed to Jace.

Mom pulled me into the truck behind her and Luke jumped into the driver's seat. Mom collapsed into a fit of sobs once the truck started to move. I hugged her to my side and Luke rubbed her back. She clung to us both and her sobs softened into light crying.

"It's okay Mom, he's gone." I murmured.

"I know but when I saw that you were hurt I thought of all the horrible things he had done to me and your brother and I lost it. The very thought him doing them to you is unbearable." She whispered into her hands. We pulled up to the house; Luke helped my mom out and up to the door. I followed them thinking of what my mother had just said. My bed beckoned to me as I went into my room shutting the door. I brushed my hair out and changed into shorts and a baggy t-shirt. I flopped on my bed, my eyelids closed from the non-existent excessive weight.

I sat on the edge of a big bed. A woman sat behind me screaming her head off. After what seemed like an eternity her screams subsided and a baby started to wail. I turned to see me. My hair was darker and matted to my head with sweat. I saw the baby's face and gasped when I saw its eyes were solid black. I screamed and the scene swirled away and a new picture swirled into the blackness. It was me again and I was pale with bags under my eyes. I sat at a long ebony table sipping at a wine glass. A man sat next to me looking over at me as if he were worried. The scene changed again to the same man torturing another man who was cowering in some sort of pentagram. Wings were folded against his back and his forehead was cut. But instead of red blood it was a brilliant gold. The man torturing him reached into the pentagram with a vile and took a sample of the other ones blood. Again the scene turned to the man spilling the blood over a plate of food and into the wine glass. Moments later I reappeared, taking the seat and started to pick at the food taking little bites. I was looking on a house that was burning away only I wasn't alone. Luke stood next to me, trying to pull me away from the house.

I sat up gasping, tears running down my face. I jumped when I felt arms around me. I felt my heart pound against my chest but it slowed when I breathed in the familiar scent of Jace. I knew it was him this time and not Simon or some other male.

"What is it Clary?" He whispered in my ear.

"I know why I can draw those runes now." I replied not looking at him.

"What do you mean?" He rubbed my back.

"Valentine, he…he…fed my mother angel blood."

"What?" He held me back to look me in the eyes.

"He tortured an angel and took its blood when my mother became depressed over Jonathan's birth. He didn't know she was pregnant. I dreamt I was my mother and I witnessed him take the angel's blood and taint my mother's food with it. And I saw Jonathan being born and both his eyes were completely black. There was no white. I can only assume Valentine had done the same thing when she was first pregnant but with demon blood." I turned and cried into Jace's shoulder. At least I knew the truth.
