Love To

Chapter 33:

I threw and embedded the knife in the demon's skull. Black ichor oozed from the wound as the body collapsed on itself. "I don't know what I should do! He hasn't asked me to the dance yet and I'm worried he won't." Isabelle sighed, kicking the companion demon in the face and finishing it off with her seraph blade.

"He'll ask you. He's probably still in shock about that whole you actually like him thing." I flipped back against the wall, pushing myself off of it and over the other demon stabbing it through the back once I had landed. Finally we had killed that little clan. "Now I need a coffee." I pulled Isabelle down the street.

"But what if he doesn't?" She whined. I was really not in the mood for this. Simon had asked me to drag dear Isabelle to Taki's so he could pop the question. No not that question! He was too young to get married. He was actually going to ask her to the dance. How did Simon come up with such a brilliant plan you ask? He didn't, I did. My first plan was way more extravagant than this. I had suggested he rent out Pandemonium for just them two but no he didn't have that kind of money so he settled on Taki's which Isabelle and I had finally made it too with her still rambling on and on about the dance.

"Isabelle, can we please talk about something else for the next five minutes?" I opened the door ushering her inside. She walked a few strides and then noticed Simon standing there with a rose. Okay, I knew it was a bad idea to get Magnus the Hopeless Romantic involved. I guess it worked though, because as I turned around and left Isabelle and Simon alone I heard her squeal. I huffed and walked down the sidewalk. The Institute wasn't that far of a walk and it wasn't that cold out. I was in the midst of kicking a flattening aluminum can around when he spoke from the shadows.

"Hey there." He winked. His hair was wind-blown and his cheeks red as if he'd been running but due to his Shadowhunter stamina he was not panting and out of breath.

"Were you following me? You know stalking is illegal in all 50 states." I watched him as he made his way towards me. His freaking Greek god godliness and all that caused my heart to palpitate. One day it would give out and then who would he have to antagonize and make out with.

"I was only following you for maybe fifteen minutes." He smirked. "I thought you wanted coffee from Taki's?"

"Well I thought it would be best to leave Simon and Isabelle to their love fest so I left. You know it's kind of romantic." I grinned without realizing I had literally just said that to Jace who was not only my suitor but a challenge seeker as well.

"I didn't know you liked that kind of thing." He looked at a passing car.

"Oh come on. You're romantic." I smiled up at him.

"Of course I am dear." He smiled back. "Why else would you swoon at the sight of me?"

"And he's humble! Sometimes I wonder why you stay with me and my selfish behavior."

"Because I love you." Jace reached out, wrapping his slender fingers around my arm and spinning me towards him. "You know that don't you? I can't explain it but you make me better. Less stupid. Smarter about my decisions and actions worried they might in some way hurt you. I love you." And then he did the extremely unthinkable and got down on his knee, releasing me from his grip.

"Holy shit! Are you proposing?" I screeched. This was too much to think about. I mean what would my mother think? How would I juggle marriage and art school? What am I supposed to say?

"No, actually, I was just going to tie my shoe…" He gathered his laces into his hands and as he did so I took the opportunity to nudge him forcefully with my foot making him fall back on his butt.

"You're mean." He chuckled and rushed after me, which only took three seconds seeing as how my legs didn't stretch into leaps.

"Clary, I was serious, I do love you. But I don't think I'm ready for a wife at seventeen. I mean I do see myself in a few years getting married but not right now."

"I know, you really freaked me out though because I do see myself getting married once I have things figured out and I've graduated and gone through a few years of art school."

He only smiled. "What else do you have in mind?"

"Well I planned that in a few years I'd be happily married and expecting quintuplets. By the way I'm pregnant." The smirk was wiped clean, replaced by a wan face and wide eyes.

"What?"

"Got you! Payback's a bitch huh?" He played it off by popping his jacket collar.

"I totally knew you were kidding."

"Okay sure stud muffin." I tried to mimic his smirk and patted him on the shoulder as I passed by. He turned and moped around behind me as we continued our walk to the Institute. I found solace in the toasty warm entry room. I lied it was freezing out after a block and a half. I was attempting to defrost my hands as we waited for the elevator, cupping and breathing into them. I let out a small yawn, but not small enough to slip by Jace. He helped me into the elevator and took us straight to the rooms instead of the main level.

I excused myself to shower so I didn't have to sleep smelling like trash and ichor. I suppose it didn't matter anyways because when it came to our relationship Jace wasn't one for privacy. But he didn't crash my shower this time, which was a relief seeing as how I was in no physical state to get physical. I walked back into his bedroom, drying my curls. I shuffled around his door, finding a soft cotton t-shirt. It skimmed my thighs and rode up slightly as I crossed over to the bed. Jace was flipping through 'Tale of Two Cities'.

"I didn't know you were into Dickens." I nodded at the book, snuggling into the comforter. I had to poke my toes out though, because the sudden heat of the shower caused much of my blood to flow down. My hands were still freezing so I pressed them against Jace's stomach. He gasped and slapped my hands away.

"What was that for?" He pouted.

"I don't know just fun." I smiled.

"So you're one of those people who get off on someone else's pain? What have I gotten myself into?"

I swear I started writing this the day after my last update but I am so freaking busy it isn't even funny. And to make my day even better, something amazing happened with a boy in my Physical Science class. He came into the room and everyone was telling him to go home, including myself, because he looked sick. But he just plopped down a seat away from me and told everyone he just needed to lie down. So he just rested his head on his arms and fell asleep. Well about half an hour later we were finishing up notes and he sits up and just freaks the hell out of me. And then he's like "Move Emma" and I was like "Why?" and then he just said it again and I jumped up and ran to the row of tables in front of us to my friend Kelli and he, his name is Mitchell, ran to the wastebasket but stopped about half way there and just let it loose. It was so gross and I felt bad for him. I even told one of my guy friends to go check on Mitchell to see if he was okay. I told him to drink Gatorade and go home when he got back to the room. Yes on any other day he loves to annoy the crap out of me but I felt bad because a lot of my class mates were just laughing about it. So that was my Thursday! Any who, please leave a review. I love to hear from all of you guys, and if you would rather PM me I'm down with that too! Have a great Friday and I hope to update Saturday or Sunday (fingers crossed).
