Love To

Chapter 34:

My hand flew to my mouth as I stared at the limp body in front of me. My blood was cold as were the tears that were streaking my mascara. He was dead I could tell. He was lying as if someone had just dropped him on the floor like a rag doll. There was no blood that I could see but the boys face was turned away. All I could see was a head of dark curls and long limbs tossed about. Please if there is a God don't let it be him. The usual comforting clack of my heels made me flinch as I neared the body. I kneeled down beside him and rolled him over. I let out a broken sob that sounded like an injured animal. I clasped a hand over my mouth to silence the cry. Simon.

2 hours earlier

"You look like a little princess!" I squealed at Clary in the mirror. She was wearing a tight green velvet dress that slid down to her feet. A slit was cut to show off her legs, which were dusted with freckles and topped of with gold t-strap heels. One of my many masterpieces. Her hair was billowed up in soft waves atop her head. I had found a gorgeous blue dress in our attic. How it got there I have no clue but according to my mother it was an heirloom. It clung to my curves like Clary's but instead of velvet it was silk. I straightened my hair so it fell farther down my back than usual. And finished it off with 4 inch heels. Clary had whined and whimpered as I had groomed her but it paid off when I saw my brother's reaction to her severe beauty. She looked hot and it was all my doing. I had to meet Simon outside seeing as how he couldn't enter the Institute. I glowered at Jace when he ever so graciously helped Clary into her coat and left me. I shrugged on my jacket and stomped out the door after them. I stopped in my tracks and grinned down at Simon. He was neatly dressed in a black suit and to make it more his style, instead of a nice white shirt underneath was a tee shirt with a black bowtie and button sketched on it. I stifled a laugh as I descended down towards him. His jaw hanging open as he watched me. He stared for a few moments and then gulped. He licked his dry lips and when he spoke it was raspy and uneven.

"You look gorgeous." He whispered and I almost couldn't make out what he said because I couldn't read his lips that were stretched back in a smile. I absentmindedly flipped my hair back.

"Thanks you don't look too bad yourself." I grinned. He held an arm out to me and I took it.

Clary's POV

I smiled at Jace as we entered the school. My mom would be there along with a bunch of other parents. It was kind of like a big PTA meeting but with teenagers and ball gowns. I gripped Jace's jacketed arm as we stepped into the main entryway of the school. Heat flooded around me, causing me to strip my bulbous winter coat. I left it with a small girl sitting at the coat check table.

"I'll be right back." I muttered into Jace's ear and shuffled down one of the hallways, navigating my way to the warmest bathroom in the school. Sadly our school was either too hot or too cold and it just so happened to be freezing in each girls bathroom except one. I literally think half the girls in this school doesn't know what humorous pranks are. I mean you're only hurting yourself when you open the window at the end of school during the winter months in New York. The warm bathroom, however, was on the other side of the school. I was fiddling around with my dress when I heard a chuckle. My nerves were screaming to run but I couldn't move. I was frozen to the spot. No. He wasn't here. He's supposed to be in the Silent City. Not here. Not at my school with all my friends and family. I swallowed, dreading the moment that my eyes would meet his and when they did I gasped.

"How did you…" I stutter.

"How did I get out? Oh you can thank my mother for that one." Jonathan gave me a wry smile. He walked towards me and I tried to command my legs to move and they did move back and then stumbled on the hem of the dress causing me to fall back. I stifled a cry as I fell back on my elbow causing a shooting pain to course through my arm. He crouched down next to me and smirked.

"Careful sis."

"What do you mean? Mom would never let you out." I growled.

"Wrong mom. My real mother is Jocelyn Fairchild, but so is Lilith." I knew what he was talking about. Lilith, the mother of demons and warlocks. A rhyme came into my head, and yes I had it memorized from the Powerpuff Girls; Sugar, spice, and everything nice, that's what sweet little girls are made of. Morgenstern, Fairchild, and Lilith's blood, that's what Jonathan is made of. I tried to push away from him, but he dropped his hand which held a rag and some sort of potent liquid on it on to my mouth and nose. I watched with heavily lidded eyes as he chuckled over me and then I was swallowed up by darkness. All alone.

Jace's POV

Jocelyn's hand rested on my arm.

"Where's Clary?"

"She went to the bathroom and I haven't seen her since. I suppose I should look for her." I smiled and sauntered to my adopted sister and her vampire boyfriend.

"Have you seen Clary?" I asked. Isabelle finished off her punch and glanced around the room.

"No I haven't."

"Well she went to the bathroom when we first got here."

"That was fifteen minutes ago." Simon sighed.

"Will you help me look for her?" I didn't wait for an answer. I just took Isabelle's arm and dragged her along behind me. We stopped in the main hall. "Iz, go look in all the bathrooms, Simon you check that end of the school, and I'll check this one."

Simon's POV

I was walking down the hallway. Where was Clary? This was just God's way of punishing me for drooling over Isabelle, but Clary had her own boy to drool after her. The thought of Jace drooling like a bulldog made me laugh. I stopped. Clary was passed out on the ground. I could see her chest rising and falling. I sprinted, falling down beside her. I smoothed her hair back. Her eyes fluttered lightly and she licked her lips.

"He's here. Run." She gasped.

"What?"

"Behind you." Her eyes closed and she was gone again. I rolled back around again and there was Jonathan, blade in hand. I uttered one last gasp and then I felt pain. And I was gone. I was in some sort of limbo. Not conscious. Maybe I was dead but I don't know. Could vampires die?

I heard her. She didn't make any sense but I heard her. Is that possible? I thought I was dead? She let out a little squeak and then blood flowed into my mouth. My eyes snapped open and my finger clutched at Isabelle's wrist. I drank and then I realized I was killing Isabelle. I pushed her arm away.

"What are you doing? I could've killed you!" I gasped.

"You were dead." She smiled weakly, a tear slid down her cheek. I couldn't help but grin up at her.

"I was technically dead already."

"What happened?" It came rushing back to me, even if it was only seconds ago, it didn't matter. It hit me like a tidal wave.

"Clary, we have to help her!" I pushed up off the ground.

"Wait why?"

"Jonathan. He's here." I stalked down the hallway, Isabelle clacking along behind me.
