Chapter 35:

I couldn't make sense of anything. My senses were blurry. I tried to look around the room. It was a classroom. Desks were thrown around haphazardly as if someone had tossed them out of the way. I turned to look at the door and rolled my head around to check the rest of the room. Snow was falling outside and the street lamps threw light around the room so it was barely lit. But I could see him crouched on the ground, carving something into the floorboards. His white blonde hair, relating to the color of the snow outside, glimmered in the light. I tried to move, but it was useless. My hands were tied painfully tight behind my back. I tried to kick, but my legs were also restrained, tied to the legs of the chair.

"What are you getting at?" I whispered. My throat was dry and it hurt to talk.

"Tisk tisk. You should know better than to ask the protagonist what they're scheme is. You should know better. You're a movie buff aren't you? Oh wait that was the vamp wasn't it?"

"What do you mean 'was'?" I felt my heart beating out of my chest.

"Come on sis. Put two and two together." He paused for a few moments. "Anything? Anything at all? Okay here it goes, he's dead. Well more dead than he usually is." His lips slid up into curls. He reminded me of the Grinch. Simon wasn't dead. He couldn't be.

"You're lying." I stared at the desk. Tears prickled my eyes. No he wasn't, he's lying. I felt one tear roll down my face and then I heard his voice. Not Jonathan, but Simon's. It was a mere whisper but that didn't matter. Maybe it was in my head. Just my conscience taking on a different persona. But it was Simon's voice.

Clary, you need to get out now.

You need to be strong and get the hell away from him. I swallowed the lump in my throat and promised Simon's internal voice that I would get out and away from Jonathan. What ever it takes, I added.

Jace's POV

I had searched the whole school. Isabelle and Simon had disappeared, probably making out in some closet I guess. But I do need their help. I am starting to get extremely worried on where Clary is. I can't find her. I've resulted in checking each classroom. As I'm leaving the science wing a smell hits me. I've grown accustomed to it, while walking through an abandoned hospital or a raving night club, but not in a school. Especially not this one. Demons. They smell like a rotting dumpster. It's not extremely strong but I notice it. Lucky for me, I'm in a school that trains Nephilim. I take off down the corridor, not stopping until I find the Shadowhunter training room. Even then I hardly take my time of stripping out of my suit and into our usual gear. I hastily throw a few seraph blades through my back. I stop as I'm grabbing a stele. There's a light buzzing sound. I scoff to myself as I realize it's my cell. It's Alec.

"Jace, where are you? Jocelyn's getting worried." He rambles.

"Alec, I need you to find Isabelle and Simon and send Magnus to the training room. Clary's gone."

"Wait why do you need Magnus?" Alec really couldn't accept that.

"I smelled a demon in the school. I haven't been able to find Clary and I'm worried. I need Magnus to meet me so he can perform a tracking spell." I hiss. I can't help that in the state of things I am getting slightly annoyed. I mean can you blame me?

"Okay, he's on his way." Alec simply said and Jace hit end. He paced the room as he waited for Magnus. What could've happened to Clary? Where was she? Who would do this to her.

"You called?" Magnus purred from the doorway.

"I need you to find Clary."

"Ha, you Shadowhunters always thinking I'm your little lap dog…" Magnus chuckled examining his nails.

"Please it's for Clary." He had to pick a time to PMS about Nephilim…

"Fine." Magnus smiled at me and held out his hand.

"What?" I looked down at his palm.

"Well this won't work unless I have something of hers." Magnus sighed. I reached down to my suit and looked carefully at the fabric until I found one glistening strand of red hair.

"Here." I dropped it lightly into Magnus's palm. He closed his hand around it and chanted some things to himself. He opened his gleaming cat eyes and grabbed my hand, pulling me out the door.

"Come on I know where she is."

Isabelle's POV

Simon hugged me to his chest. I tried to wipe away the layer of blood on his neck. He was still pretty week seeing as how it wasn't a whole lot of blood to go on. He held me at arms length so he could look down on me.

"Come on, we need to find Jocelyn." He pulled me down the winding corridors until we found the ballroom. It was called the multipurpose room but everyone knows that this was what it was really used for. I searched the crowd until I found the shimmering dark red locks of Jocelyn. I pointed to her and Simon ran with me across the sea of bodies.

"Ms. Fray…" Simon tapped her lightly on the shoulder.

"Simon, you know I'm not Ms. Fray anymore." She scolded.

"Okay Mrs. Garroway, hey that rhymed!" He smiled to himself and I slapped his shoulder.

"Jocelyn, Jonathan is here and he has Clary." I rattle out. Might as well get to the point. Her face pales, causing her freckles to stand out.

"He's here? In the school?" She gulps.

"Yes." She looks uneasy as if she might pass out.

"Find Luke. Tell him what you just told me. I need to go find her."

"Ms. Fray, are you sure you'll be alright by yourself?" Simon called after her.

"I'll be fine Simon. I need to end this. Once and for all." Her tone was so hollow and cold it sent shivers up my spine.

Jace's POV

We stop dead in our tracks as we stare at the gurgling wailing demons blocking us. They're ugly grey things that resemble some offspring of a lizard and bird. They growl and hiss. Magnus turns, sparks already flying out of his finger tips.

"Go. I'll hold them off. She's in room 219. It's in the English wing. Now run." Magnus instructs. I sprint off down the hall. I finally reach the English wing and take in a few deep breaths when I see the room number 219. I try the door knob but it's locked. I retrieve my stele and draw the open rune. It clicks and swings open and once I enter it swings shut again, leaving me in a dark room. I see something slumped over in one of the desks. It lets out a little whimper and I run to aid Clary. I pull the gag out of her mouth; mascara is running down her face.

"You shouldn't have come." She blubbered.

"What? Why?" I ask.

"Because now I'm going to have to kill you." A cold voice speaks from the corner. I know the voice all to well and I spin on my heel to come face to face with him.

Jonathan.

Bum bum bummmm… I know cliffy. Mwhahahah! I got a whole bunch of reviews for that last chapter. I think I may have shocked my more action loving readers. What do you say? Should we kill Jace off? Just kidding. I really want to hurt myself for suggesting that. I really dread having to fall asleep so that's why I have updated again tonight. Oh trust me I'll be kicking myself when I have to write a book report on The Perks of Being a Wallflower tomorrow. But I decided since these last chapters are like WTF that I would update as frequently as possible. And my laptop was fixed so it's easier for me to write the chapters in advance. What do you guys think Jocelyn's going to do? We'll see. ;)
