Broken Promise

Chapter 14

Some time went and passed by unnoticed. I felt uncomfortable living with the girls, without having a job. But they told me the only job they were allowing me to do, was to be their boss. The vacations were over, and I didn't come up with something to get my job back.

I worked with the girls on the Romeo and Juliet's costumes. No one beside us knew I was helping them. Or that's what I thought.

Danna's POV

- The owner told us to meet him in 10 min – said Hanna.

- Oh, yeah…what do you think he will tell us?

- Maybe he will tell us that he already hired someone! Or that we are fired too!

- No! That can't be.

We headed to Kalos's office and opened the door slowly.

- Hi! – we said.

- Come in Misses.

- Did something happen? – asked Hanna.

- Yes – he said as he showed us the draft of the costumes.

- You don't like them? – I asked nervous.

- Misses Brown, this are Miss Carroll designs, aren't they?

We looked at each other, speechless.

- We should have re-drawn them! – I said to Hanna.

- I have no talent for that! You should have done it! – she replied.

- It was so obvious they would notice! – I said to her.

- Misses! – interrupted Kalos.

- Yes sir! – we both replied.

- Tell me the truth.

- Yes they are – I said.

- That's what I thought – he said seriously – but why?

- Rogue is an amazing designer and she knows how to be the person in charge. We also know how to get the job done, but we don't have her talent. And I must say she has been far the best in all these years. We can't work without her anymore! She helped us this time in return for a favor – I explained.

- Kalos, you must re-hire her! – begged Hanna.

- I know she is a talented designer, but she can't control herself. I don't need that kind of individual in my staff. I gave her several opportunities to behave and she couldn't do it.

- But, that's just how she is…

- She is not a little girl; she must know how to conduct herself in the workplace. She makes too much drama and I can't tolerate that.

We looked at each other, defeated. We remained silence for a while.

- Let's make a deal – said Hanna finally.

- A deal? – he asked.

- Yeah, a deal. You re-hire Rogue and we will assume the responsibility for her. If she does something, you can fire us too.

- That's not a good deal; I would be left with no staff for the costumes – said Kalos.

- Hanna! That made no sense…Listen, if she does something, you fire her forever and we will work for free for a year. How about that? – I said.

- Danna! What the… - exclaimed Hanna.

- That's a better deal. I accept it. But she has only 1 chance – said Kalos.

- Okay, we get it – I replied.

- Tell her to come – commanded Kalos.

Rogue's POV

I was doing household chores, when the phone ringed.

- Rogue! Come right away to Kaleido Stage! The owner wants to talk with you! - exclaimed Hanna.

- What? - I was confused.

- Come! - she said.

After I hung the phone, I thought that the girls planned something without telling me and they succeeded in their plan.

I reached Kaleido Stage as if my life depended on it. I wasn't sure how I got so fast there. I headed to Kalos's office and knocked.

- May I come in?

- Yes, come in Miss Carroll.

- You wanted to talk to me?

- I can re-hire you if you want to.

- Are you serious? Why did you consider it? Did something happen? – I asked curiously.

- Do you want the job, yes or no?

- Yes sir! - I replied automatically.

- It's yours then. You'll begin tomorrow. Now, get out of here.

- Thank you so much! – I said and left running.

I went to workshop to tell the good news to the girls. In my way I met with Sora, she had a staff jacket.

- Sora? Why are you wearing that?

- Rogue! What are you doing here?

- I got my job back…but you didn't answer my question.

- Congratulations! Well, this is my new job – she said smiling.

- What do you mean?

- Oh, I guess no one told you…After the ICF, I quitted my job in Kaleido Stage. I returned to Japan. But after been there…and after Ken went there for me….I decided to return. To carry out my new dream!

- No one told me! What's your new dream?

- I want to create a fun, conflict-free stage!

That dream.

- But, are you performing?

- No, I'll start from scratch, being staff...

- Wow, I didn't expect that. I hope you can achieve your dream, really…if there's anything you need tell me – I said smiling.

- Thanks! – she said and disappeared.

I ran to the workshop and again knocked down some random guy.

- Sorry! – I said running.

The girls were talking with Mia at the entrance. When they saw me, they stopped the conversation.

- Is something wrong? – I asked.

- No! We are happy that you are here! – said Mia.

- How did you know?

- We swear we did nothing! – said the girls at unison.

- Yeah, of course…Thank you – I said.

I went to dorms to ask Sarah if I was getting a new room.

- Rogue! Kalos just phoned me. I'm so glad that you came back!

- I'm glad too. So…will I get a new room?

- Well…hehe would May accept you as roomie again?

- I hope – and we both laughed.

I couldn't find May anywhere. Leon was not around either, so probably they were rehearsing. I decided to go back to the girls' house, since I was going again into the business until the next day.

It was the day, my triumphant return. Well, not really. I woke up really early, outside the darkness was still haunting. But, I was too excited. I didn't felt that excited when I just began the job less than 2 years ago. It was weird, but I felt very energetic. I woke up Hanna.

- Hanna! Hanna!

- What? What's with this fuss? It's too early, go back to sleep!

- I can't!

- Let me sleep – she cried.

I got out of the room and made breakfast. When the girls woke up, I was ready to go.

- Rogue! We will be ready in about 45 min – said Danna.

- It's too much time! I'm going now!

- Hold on girl! By the way, will you return here? – asked Hanna.

- I don't think so…

- Why? – cried both.

- Sarah told me I could go back to be May's roommate.

- I knew it! – said Hanna.

- Go to May now! Go! We will see you later – said Danna.

- Girls, it's not that. I'm just really excited…and it's easier to stay in the dorms. See you there.

I left and arrived to Kaleido Stage too early. There was no soul around. I sat down in the entrance of the dorms, waiting for something. Suddenly, I heard a voice from behind me...

- Rogue!

I turned around.

- What are you doing here? You came to see me? – asked Leon.

- Fool! You would love that! But, no…you're wrong. Is just that I got my adored job back…

- That will make things easier.

- Easier?

- Let's go for breakfast. You have time, don't you?

- I think so, I got here too early.

We went to a coffee shop in downtown. We ate in the tables outside. I got a nice vibe from the city in the early morning. For a long time, I ignored mornings…but I was finding them irresistible. I was too distracted and my coffee was getting cold.

- Rogue? Are you here?

- Oh…I'm sorry – I said as I sipped my coffee – Ew, it's bad – I said coughing.

He laughed.

- It's really bad! Take a sip! – I handed the cup to him.

He laughed again.

- I'm going to spill it on purpose if you don't stop laughing! What's wrong with you?

- Nothing, I…I like this. Can we do this regularly?

- Regularly? But…my sleep hours…Well, if you are going to pay, fine!

After talking about some trivial things and our fights from before, we went back. When we arrived to the dorms, we took separate ways. I headed to May's room.

- Rogue? What are you doing here? Did you know Sora came back as a staff girl?! I'm pissed off.

- Hi May, I'm happy to see you too. I got my job back! Yeah, Sora told me about it yesterday.

- For real?! I knew it! I knew it! But, you were here yesterday? Why you were with Sora? You didn't look for me? Why? Do you prefer her? Huh?

- Too many questions! Can I come in?

- Yeah, come in.

- May, would you allow me to be your roommate again?

- You know you are more than welcome to stay here.

- Thank you.

Everything was returning to its normal course…with some winds of change. The rivalry between May and Sora was fainting day by day. May tried in many ways to encourage Sora to perform again. But, she seemed uninterested. Her actions only annoyed May more and more.

Finally, it was the release of the show "Romeo and Juliet". It was an incredible show, and along with May's technique, the audience was quite impressed. But, if I compared it with Layla and Yuri's show of Romeo and Juliet…I couldn't say May and Leon's performance of Romeo and Juliet was better, it lacked something.

Actually, during the rehearsals I noticed May and Leon didn't had any chemistry. Both were way too self-centered and that didn't help at all. I wondered if it was good for them to continue being partners…most likely, not.

After the show, Leon handed personally his costume to me; he never had done that before. Probably, it was just one more of those winds of change.

- Leon, I don't think May…

- Me neither, she is talented…but…

- I know, I was hoping you noticed that too.

- So, what do you think?

- Sora, almost certainly.

- But she…

- Don't worry; I know she will perform again – I said smiling.

When we were done in the storage, I set off to my room. I had been a long time since I last helped the girls in the storage room…I almost forgot how time consuming it was. It was late and May was already on the room.

- I think my relationship with Leon is worst than before…

- Why do you think that? – I asked.

- When I make any casual chat, he totally ignores me! I don't like that!

- He is a weirdo, leave it like that – I said laughing.

- I'm serious Rogue! And then, I saw him starring at Sora! I'm sure he wants her as his partner; he must hate me so much! – she said frustrated.

- He doesn't hate you.

- He hates me! I'm tired, good night!

May didn't know a thing about what was really happening, but knowing too much could disappoint her. It was not fair for her and it was a pity. I hoped that she could understand it someday.

For the next show I got really busy all the day. I was too immersed in my issues and I didn't get to see if they improved, but probably they didn't. I wasn't sure if the audience noticed, hopefully not.

We were having our now regular breakfast. That time when the city sounds were fascinating and the air was like a warmth touch.

- Don't try too hard – I said sarcastically while smacking his head.

- Stop it! ….What are you talking about? - asked Leon.

- Your relationship with May, the poor thing is suffering.

- Some people just can't get along…

- Oh, come on! Do you hate her?

- No, I have no reason for that. However, sometimes she is bothersome.

- You are way less tolerant than me. Imagine if you had to be friends with yourself!

- Are you saying I'm bothersome?!

- Maybe…anyway, be considerate with her…please.

- Just because you are the one asking it, I'll try…but I can't guarantee anything.

- If you hurt her, I'll hurt you!

- Do you want to get fired again?

- Damn it! You will take advantage of my situation, right?! I hate you!

- Of course not! I don't want you to lose your job. What am I going to do without an annoying company around me?

- Say that again! Moron!

Those mornings were an enjoyable time of the day…and I liked that nobody knew about them.

When we were back, we headed to the stage. Leon had a rehearsal and I had things to do around. About midday, as I passed by I noticed a commotion on the stage. But, there was no time to take a look. Then, the girls told me about a flaw in Juliet's costume. I had to go to the stage with May to check it. Almost the whole Kaleido Stage's staff was there, even the owner. I was descending to the center of the stage, when I saw a familiar figure. As if she sensed my presence, she turned and we exchanged glances.

- Rogue? What are you doing here? - she asked.

- Me? I'm the one who has the right to ask that question! – I replied.

- Do you know each other? – asked Layla puzzled.

We both burst in laughter. Everyone was dazed.

- What a ridiculous question! Of course we know each other, we are sisters! – replied Cathy.

- Sisters?! – was heard in unison.

Author's notes:

Hahaha Cathy and Rogue are sisters! It was really funny how it ended up like this. Actually, this wasn't planned haha But, when I was about to write about Cathy in Kaleido Stage...I remembered that chapter in which Rogue says "My older sister is a director in Broadway and my brother is an actor..." I swear I wasn't thinking about Cathy when I wrote that! But, now that i think about it, it fits (:

By the way, finally a "long" chapter...or something like that. I hope none of you have felt that I have left out Sora...But is just that in the series, we all know what happens to her...and in this story, we are seeing another point of view and more interactions with the other characters.
