Broken Promise

Chapter 17

In this next chapters, you will read the conversation between May and Rogue; where Rogue tells to May everything about the past. When Rogue recalls conversations from the past, they will be in italics. I read in the guidelines, that chat/script format was not allowed. I'm not sure if this chapters and some ahead fall into this. Since this is just conversation...but in the conversation there is narration! So..I hope I don't get any problems.

- When I was 13 years old, my parents were accused of a big fraud. Some "friend" of them set up a trap and they fell for it. They were going to jail and the government was sending us to orphanages. My parents lost all their money, our house, the car…I wasn't told this until I was older. My parents didn't want us to be taken to orphanages so they were planning to send us with some relatives. We were all going with my mom's sister in France. They thought that being in France, would keep us safe. Away from the news…away from the possible rejections we were getting from that moment on.

- Wow! I never imagined that… - said May surprised.

- My aunt never had any kids, so she thought that taking care of the 3 of us, was too much. Also, she was by herself and didn't have a lot of money. So she told my parents that she was only taking me, since I was the youngest. Cathy and my brother were sent with another relative to New York. I was devastated; they were sending me to another country, far away from my parents, from my brothers, from my friends, from everything.

- That should have been very hard…

- You have no idea…When I arrived to France, my aunt told me that I was there, because my parents wanted me to have new experiences, to know new countries, new people… Of course, that was just a pretext. I had to learn the language very fast, because I had to continue studying. I entered to a normal school and I also entered ballet. I practiced ballet before here in America, so I continued it in France…

- Ballet? For real?! You must show me some dance routine! – exclaimed May excited.

I laughed.

- Okay, I'll do it someday – I said.

- Yeah! …What happened next? Continue with your story, sorry for interrupting.

- Don't worry. Well, then…after some days in which I got used to France, to the language, to the people…I began to enjoy getting around the city with no course. My aunt worked until evening, so I felt lonely staying home….actually, I always felt lonely. One day, I saw a boy about my age or a little bit older and a girl younger than me, performing in the streets. The boy was juggling, while the girl did some acrobatics.

- Leon and Sophie!

- Indeed. I was amazed by their skills, they were really good. People gave them coins for their performance. I wanted to see their show closer, so I opened my way through the crowd. I just stood there, smiling and clapping. The girl noticed that, so she approached and did some acrobatics in front of me. I just had one coin and I gave it to her, she smiled. The boy took the rest of the coins and they left.

- Their coach told us that they were orphans and then, they abandoned him…probably that was their only way to make money.

- I didn't know anything at that time. After that…I didn't get to see them again, so I felt upset. My life in France was somewhat unexciting. I went to school, but didn't have friends. I wasn't sure if it was because I was a foreigner or if actually something was wrong with me. In the ballet classes…well, everyone is your enemy…so, it was hopeless – I laughed.

- I have heard about that…but never knew if it was true!

- It is!

- And then?

- One day, in my casual strolling I arrived to a lonely park. Then, I noticed it wasn't that lonely…I spotted a girl standing in one foot above the monkey bars.

- What are you doing? – I asked.

- I'm training – she replied from above.

- You might fall! Aren't you afraid?

- No – she turned to me – You are the girl from that day!

- Do you remember me?

- Of course! I enjoy making people happy with our performance…and you were very happy at the end of it. Before, you were sad…weren't you?

- Uhm…

- It's okay, my name is Sophie Oswald.

- Nice to meet you…I'm Rogue Carroll.

- You speak weird!

- Is it that noticeable? – I asked disappointed - I'm from America.

- America?! You don't look American – she said laughing - And what are you doing here?

- I'm not sure…

- That's why you were sad?

- Maybe…

- Hmm, let's be friends!

- Friends?

- Yes!

- After that day, I met with her at different points of the city. She was always standing in one foot, and she didn't moved that much even though we were chatting.

- Just like Sora's training! – interrupted May.

- I never hear about that training.

- Never mind…continue.

- One day, she explained to me, that she was training to become the true star. You know...that dream you heard about. And she told me about the Angel's Maneuver and that they were trying to master it. She also told me about their childhood, and about that coach Alan. She was my only friend, so I told her about my life in America and my current life in France. One noon, her brother appeared.

- Sophie! – he said running towards her.

- Hi Leon! – she said with a big smile.

- It's enough for today.

She left her one foot pose and it was the first time I saw her standing normally, besides from the day of the performance.

- Wow, I almost forgot you got another leg – I said laughing.

The boy turned to me.

- Who's she? Is she bothering you? – he asked to Sophie.

- What are you talking about? Do I look like a bad person? – I asked.

- I'm talking to my sister, butt out! - he said.

- You are talking about me! Idiot! - I said angered.

- Stop it! Don't argue please! – cried Sophie – I'm sorry Leon, I didn't tell you about her before…she is my friend, her name is Rogue.

- Friend? I didn't know you had friends… - he said examining me from head to toe – I don't like her…and she speaks weird…are you sure she isn't a bad person? She is a ginger after all.

- What are you saying?! I'm offended! – I exclaimed.

- Leon! – cried Sophie – Leave her alone, she is a nice person and I like her.

- Whatever! Let's go – he commanded.

- Forgive my brother please…he is not used to this. But, don't worry…It's okay – said Sophie.

- Okay, I don't mind him…see you!

- I can't believe you two fought since you were kids! – said May laughing.

- I never thought about it in that way! – I laughed.

- I interrupted again, sorry.

- It's all right. One morning, I was late for school…so I took a shortcut. I'm my way, I passed nearby a warehouse. Unexpectedly, I saw Leon unloading some big sacks and boxes. I wasn't sure if they were heavy, since he seemed to have no problem. I thought that probably he had a part-time job as a warehouse assistant. I also thought that probably he didn't earn that much money and that was why they performed on the streets for some coins. I asked Sophie about it and she confirmed it. She also told me that because of Leon's jobs they didn't go to school. Sophie also said that occasionally they went to the public library to study, because they didn't want to be uneducated. I always felt somewhat sorry for them, their life wasn't easy. But they had their dream.

- Rogue, what's your dream? – asked Sophie.

- My dream?

- You must have one!

- Maybe…But, keep it a secret…okay?

- Okay!

- You know…in ballet…we make some plays and we have to wear like…special costumes. I would like to make those costumes! I wouldn't mind doing that forever!

- Really? That's cool! In the circus…people also wear special costumes…but only in the big ones!

- Oh, then I hope someday I can make a costume for you.

- Of course! I will be glad to wear it! – she said with a big smile.

- You will look lovely!

- Please tell me you did a costume for them once… - said a teary May.

- I did. But, we will talk about it later.

- Okay.

- Leon worked during part of the mornings and part of the night. However, they didn't live in a proper house…and Sophie told me that sometimes they couldn't eat. Their house was actually a small warehouse, where they had several objects they used when training. Sophie only focused on training and performing. Leon trained while he was at his job and during his "free time". Sometimes they performed in local circus to get extra money, but they weren't given the chance that easily…so they couldn't depend on it.

- Poor things! Really, I never thought their life was like that…

- Many times I invited Sophie to eat in my aunt's house, but she rejected me. I wasn't sure if it was because Leon could get mad…or she thought I was doing it because I pitied her. Even though I could say I pitied them, I really wanted to help them…but I didn't know how.

- You were just a kid...So, when did you begin to relate with Leon?

- I'm not sure when it was. But I had a recital; I was starring so I invited both of them. I was doing Cinderella. Sophie told me that she had to struggle to convince Leon to go with her, but he finally accepted. I reserved seats for them in the first row. I was saddened by the fact that neither my aunt nor my mom could assist. My mother would have been so proud…since she was the one who encouraged me to do ballet…But she was in America, so it was impossible. When I was on stage, I saw Sophie and Leon seating; Sophie was really excited while Leon was indifferent. But, I noticed through the performance, that Leon's expression changed and he was enjoying it. When it ended, everyone stood up their seats clapping.

- So, you actually know how it feels being in the stage! How come I didn't know any of this! – complained May.

- I'm sorry…

- Continue, please!

- I was very pleased to see that the audience liked it and they even threw flowers to me. I remember I was about to cry of happiness, but I stopped because it could have ruined the makeup! Then, when I was behind scenes, Sophie and Leon appeared.

- Rogue! You were wonderful! You did it really good! – exclaimed Sophie.

- Thank you! Did you like it? – I asked.

- A lot! Right, Leon? – asked Sophie.

Leon was standing besides Sophie, trying to avoid eye contact with me. He was hiding something.

- You were fine – he said.

- Uhm...Thank you… - I said.

- Leon! That's not what you told me you wanted to say – said Sophie to Leon.

- I… - said Leon.

Sophie gave him an elbow.

- Okay, I get – said Leon and made a pause - Rogue, you were extraordinary! You are…you did a beautiful performance – he looked down - I'm sorry for the things I said to you before – he said while handing me a bouquet.

- Thank you, Leon!

- Since that day, it wasn't just Sophie and me…it became Sophie, Leon and me. The happiest days I had in France…

Author's notes:

So, this is the introduction to the past! Rogue will be telling everything from the beginning (when she arrived to France) until the time she entered Kaleido Stage. It's going to take a couple of chapters...but I hope you like them. After the trip to the past, we will continue normally with the story. Well, maybe before that...I'll add an extra chapter with Leon's POV of some important parts on the story until now. The times I have written a Leon's POV have been very short and we never know what he thinks...so in this extra chapter we will know what he has been thinking.

cami (neko-rin):I have liked SoraxLayla pairing but not in a yuri way(even though they are some really good fics)...I can't really see it that way haha If I had to pair someone with Sora..like to be in a relationship, it would be with Ken. As for Layla, if we are talking about a romatic relationship, I think it must be with Yuri...no one else. So, you can say I like the "typical" pairing haha However, I would never pair May with Leon in any way haha I think those two need someone from somewhere else xD
