More Than Ready

Michael stayed in a near by hotel and visited Nikita everyday in the hospital. Most patients would have needed at least a week to recover, but Nikita was so eager to leave the hospital that she worked hard to recover. They were confident to release her in five days.

Michael was sitting in the room with her as she ate her hospital food without much reservation. He winced as she took a bite out of the sugarless Jello.

"I don't know how you can eat that," he said.

"Food is food. Of course, I have my preferences but..."

"I bought you salad-" When Michael pulled the salad from his bag, Nikita quickly grabbed it.

"Thank you."

"I thought food was food-"

"It is...but when someone offers you something better it's hard to refuse," she let a smile show on her face. Michael watched her silently as she took a bite of her salad.

"So...it's almost over..." he sighed.

"It is hard to believe..."

"It's got me thinking about...everything we've planned." Nikita's heart dropped. She was actually going to get married. Finally have the chance to spend the rest of her life with Michael. She reached out to hold his hand; he met her the rest of the way. She rubbed her thumb across his rough knuckles. They were still healing from the fight with the giant German man in Amanda's hideout.

"Things are only going to look up from here," she smiled.

"Yes..." Michael started thinking. Marriage, settle down, house...children... He cleared his throat. "We are finally going to be able to live our lives the way we want to." She nodded in agreement. "So, after we get married...what do you want to do?" Nikita paused.

"Well I...I guess I hadn't thought about it. I just hoped that we'd live together and still keep in contact with everyone, Birkhoff and Sonya, Alex and Owen, Ryan."

"What about starting a family of our own?" A lumped formed in her throat. The last time they had this conversation, Michael was trying to convince her that they could raise his son together. Nikita didn't have any idea on how to raise a child. If anything, it scared her. She didn't want to be a reason for a child to grow up with anything less than a safe, successful life. Anything less would seem like a failure. Not having parents had a huge impact on her life and Alex's life after losing her family. Having children was a huge responsibility.

"I don't know, Michael. I don't know if I want to have children." Michael let go of her hand and sat back in his chair.

"Look, I know that you don't know what it is like to have a normal family life, but I know you'll be great, you'll be a great mom."

"No, Michael, you don't know that."

"But I do-"

"No-" Nikita stopped and rested her head on her pillow. She stared up at the ceiling trying to imagine herself as a mother. All she wanted was to have a family of her own, yet being a mother scared her more than ever. More than being an assassin. She wanted to tell him how she felt, how scared she was of making a mistake. Yet, when she went to speak, nothing came out.

He looked up at her waiting, hoping she'd say she could be a mother with the same confidence she had when she'd say she could complete a mission. But all he got was silence.

Then, the nurse opened the door ruining his chance to try and convince her. Nikita smiled at the nurse as she walked up and began to examine her wounds. Michael stood in the corner of the room so that he couldn't interfere.

"Well, well you have come a long way. The doctor will be in shortly to see you." After the doctors examination, he felt confident to release her from the hospital. She was relived. Although it felt nice to escape from the chaos that surrounded her life, she knew that it wasn't quite over yet. She needed to tell her story, and help her friends get their pardons.

Nikita and Michael left the hospital and went back to the safe house where everyone was waiting. They were all anxious to see Nikita especially now that they were free, almost.

They stepped into the room and Alex, Ryan, Birkhoff, Sonya, and Owen turned and smiled. It was a relief to see that Nikita was okay. She made it.

Alex walked up to Nikita first trying to hold back the tears in her eyes. She wrapped her arm around Nikita's neck trying to avoid her right side that had been wounded in their fight with Amanda.

"I'm glad that you're okay," Alex said. Nikita smiled at her with tired eyes. Nikita walked over to each of them and gave them long hugs happy that they were all alive and unhurt.

"Thank you all so much," she looked at everyone. "It is because of all of you that we were able to finally put an end to Division and Amanda's plan. I also wouldn't have survived without any of you. I know I can be a little reckless at times..." she said with a smile, "but I appreciate all of you for sticking by me. Now, I want to repay you, I'm getting us those pardons."

"We'll do it together. We've got your back even after this thing is over, Nikki," Birkhoff said. Nikita smiled and nodded.

"Should I tell President Spencer we are ready?" Ryan asked. Nikita looked at everyone and they had smiles on their faces.

"Tell her we are more than ready."
