A/N: And this is the chapter where you learn why Renny's real name is Hope. I seriously cried when writing that part. Nobody got it right, BTW. I don't own MU or MI. ON WITH THE STORY!
Renny's P.O.V.
I decided to see where Mike had gone off to, and decided he had gone to the scare school. I was walking past the door labs when I saw him steal a card from a student that worked in the lab. He swiped the card, and went inside.
Before the door could close all the way, though, I grabbed the handle. I went inside and told him, "You shouldn't be doing this. You know you're scary-,"
"I'm going to prove it. To Sulley, to Hardscrabble, to-,"
"Everyone. Yeah." I gave a chuckle, "Mike, what you're doing is wrong in six different ways." He glared at me. "But," His glare went away, "I'll allow it, since you want to prove yourself, like I've been trying to do for twelve years."
"You're only-,"
"Seventeen? Yep," I nodded at him, "I'll barricade the door."
I pushed various things against the door, keeping all the monsters that were trying to get in out. I turned back to Mike and saw he had already activated the door. He took his hat off, and ordered, "You stay here and keep watch. Can you do that for me?" I gave Mike a nod. "Thanks Renny," Mike smiled. Then he walked through the door, closing it behind him.
Then I pushed myself against the door, trying to keep the other monsters out. Then the teachers and the security officers got here. "Uh-oh," I mumbled.
A few minutes later, I had all four hands on my lap as the police talked to Dean Hardscrabble. I was too embarrassed of what I did. I helped Mike go into the human world, alone. I was so stupid, I should have gone with him! My hair was being held by a furry green security monster so I wouldn't get up and run. Then she yelled at a security guard, "No one goes near that door until the authorities arrive. And you, Miss Lawrence, are in a lot of trouble."
I looked towards the ground, ashamed of what I did. I was half ashamed, and half scared for Mike. It would only have taken him two or three minutes to scare the kid and run, but it had been almost fifteen minutes. I just wanted to help Mike prove himself, not get into all this trouble.
I looked towards the door and smiled like a child who had been caught with their hand in the cookie jar. My teammates where standing there, Sulley with the most worried expression. Sulley ripped the caution tape down and tried walking into the room.
"James, wait! We can help," Squishy insisted, stopping Sulley by grabbing his arm.
I looked towards the ground again and heard Don say, "Leave it to the old master of sales."
"We got a call in, but that's the best we can do," The blue security guard told Hardscrabble as Don approached them.
He cleared his throat, and introduced, "Don Carlton, sales. Folks, today is your lucky day. How many times have you asked yourself the following question-?"
"Arrest him," Hardscrabble interrupted.
"What?" I mumbled.
"Pardon?" Don asked. The guard holding my hair let go of it and helped the other guards with Don. Sulley ran into the room, grabbed me by my hair, and pulled me up to my feet. Then he ran over to the door, and ripped the caution tape off the door.
"Sullivan! Lawrence! Don't you dare!" Hardscrabble ordered as Sulley reached for the door knob, "Sullivan! Lawrence! Don't go in there!"
Too late. Sulley opened the door and pulled me in with him, closing the door behind us. Sulley walked between some bunk-beds…wait. Bunk-beds? As in more than one?
I heard sirens going off, and I saw flashing lights. Sulley and I walked closer to the window and I heard a woman say, "The kids said they saw something in the cabin. They're calling it an alien."
I heard a girl tell the woman, "It was!"
Then another human got out of his car, and I heard a window squeak.
Sulley flinched, and we slowly walked over to the open window. "Mike?" Sulley whispered. Sulley climbed out of the window (with some difficulty, I should add) and then helped me out. When we heard the some humans gasp, we ran for it. "A bear! A bear in the camp! And it's chasing a girl!"
We just ran faster, away from the humans. "Legs, don't fail me now!" I thought as Sulley and I ran.
I almost fell a few times, but we eventually got far away from the adult humans. We stopped in front of a lake. "Down this way. All right?" I heard someone say.
Sulley and I hid in front of some boats, out of the human's view. The humans went another way, and then I heard a splash. I quickly turned towards the splash's origin and saw Mike. Sulley let out a sigh and called quietly, "Mike! Come on, buddy. Let's get you out of here."
Mike didn't reply. "This is all my fault. I'm sorry."
"You were right," Mike told Sulley, "They weren't scared of me. I did everything right. I wanted it more than anyone. And I thought…I thought if I wanted it enough, I could show everybody that…That Mike Wazowski is something special. And I'm just…not." Mike swiped at his reflection in the water.
"Look, Mike, I know how you feel."
"So do I," I told Mike.
"Don't do that! Please don't do that!" Mike replied, "You do not know how I feel."
"Mike, calm down," Sulley told him.
"Monsters like you two have everything! You don't have to be good. You can mess up over and over again and the whole world loves you."
"Mike-," Sulley tried.
"You'll never know what it's like to fail because you were born a Sullivan, and you were born a Lawrence!"
"Yeah, I'm a Sullivan. I'm a Sullivan who flunked every test. The one who got kicked out of the scaring program, the one who was so afraid to let everyone down that I cheated. And I lied." Sulley sighed. "Mike I'll never know how you feel, neither of us will, but you're not the only failure here." He sat in front of the lake. "I act scary, Mike, but most of the time I'm terrified."
Mike sat down next to Sulley, and I sat next to Mike. "How come you've never told me before?" Mike questioned.
"Because…we weren't friends before," Sulley answered.
Mike turned to me. "What about you?" Mike asked, "What are you hiding?"
I knew he was joking around with me by the small smile on his face, but…I felt ready to reveal what I had kept hidden for so long. And only my close family knew it.
I took a deep breath and answered, "My name is Hope for a reason." Mike and Sulley looked at me, shocked expressions on their faces. I knew they were both thinking what I meant. "My parents named me Hope because when I was born, I was one of the smallest babies anyone had ever seen. My…my mother had gone into labor early, and I wasn't fully developed. Neither was my sister. Yeah, I was supposed to be a twin like my older brothers. The doctors, they gave us a little under ten minutes to live. My mother named me Hope and my little sister Hannah. My mother and father hoped that we would live. They HOPED that their poor little babies were going to live. H-Hannah died before anyone could do anything. …But, somehow, I lived. I survived death." I took a deep breath before continuing. "Some organs of mine weren't prefect, so the doctors completed those organs with metal." I gave a small laugh. "Hannah promised me that she and I would always be connected, that she would watch over me. She still is, and we have a strong connection. When I need her, I just call for her. She's my guardian angel, you know? I haven't needed her much since I was thirteen. That's why I don't talk about 'er."
We sat in silence for a few moments, and then I heard a human say, "Check by the lake!"
"Uh-oh. We should run," I told my friends.
Sulley and I went one way while Mike went to hide behind a rock. We stopped, but Mike motioned for us to keep going. We ran.
We ran towards a large hill, and Sulley and I attempted to climb it. I got up a foot before Mike holding a tree root out to us. Sulley grabbed it, and I grabbed Sulley's other hand. We both climbed on top of the hill, and the three of us ran to the cabin. We ran past cars, though the door, and into the cabin. We ran to the closet and Mike opened it.
It was filled with camp stuff. We were stuck in the human world…
A/N: Has anyone ever seen a Korean comic? The one with the girl walking home, and the woman in the pink pajamas?
If you've seen it, awesome! If you haven't, okay...
